C19 I Owe Her

Xiao Chen followed Chu Xiaoli out of the hospital, so focused on her that he didn't notice the flashing cameras hidden among the flowers.

As for Chu Xiaoli, she had never been followed by paparazzi before and didn’t think to look out for them.

"Let go of me!" Chu Xiaoli shook her arm, but the man's grip was like iron. No matter how she struggled, she couldn't budge him.

Once again, Chu Xiaoli felt the stark difference in strength between men and women.

Xiao Chen frowned, a hint of helplessness in his voice. "Xiaoli, what did I do this time? Tell me, and I'll change."

Anyone infatuated with Xiao Chen would find it hard to believe. Outwardly elegant and composed, only those who knew him well understood how wild and proud he truly was, like a peacock that refused to lower its head.

Yet here he was, willing to change for a woman, just to win her favor. They would be green with envy, wishing they could have Xiao Chen's tenderness all to themselves.

"Your biggest flaw is showing up in my life," Chu Xiaoli sneered. She was fed up with Xiao Chen's unpredictable nature. "If you want to make me happy, then disappear from my life forever. I'd celebrate with fireworks."

"You really don't want to see me?" Xiao Chen tightened his grip, her clear disdain piercing his heart. Yet, he maintained a calm smile, as if nothing could faze him. "I'm sorry, I can do anything else for you, but not that."

Chu Xiaoli smirked, unwilling to waste more words on him. She struggled against his hold, but he was immovable. Her brows furrowed slightly, and just as she was about to demand he release her, Xiao Chen wrapped his long arms around her, pulling her into an unyielding embrace.

Soft breaths brushed against Xiaoli's ear, filled with the man's pleasant scent, as if he was the center of her world. After a brief pause, Xiaoli struggled again. This time, the man released her quickly, only to scoop her up and place her in the backseat of a sleek black car that seemed to appear out of nowhere. He then settled in beside her.

Donation kept his eyes straight ahead, not even glancing at Xiaoli. Xiao Chen, satisfied, turned his gaze to her. "Shall I take you home?"

With a free ride on offer, Xiaoli didn't hesitate. "Take me to my apartment."

Donation, like a dutiful taxi driver, started the engine and drove for a while before asking seriously, "Miss Chu, what’s your apartment address?"

Xiaoli was speechless. Didn't he know where he was going?

Xiao Chen's eyes sparkled with amusement, his tone light. "Turn left on Wanyun Road, Apartment 132."

Xiaoli shot him a surprised look, not expecting him to know such details.

Xiao Chen, as if reading her mind, gave a teasing smile. "Anything about you, I make sure to know. I want to understand everything about you."

"No matter how much you know, I won't like you," Xiaoli replied, a cold, mocking smile on her lips. "Everything you do just turns into a ridiculous clown act, laughable and absurd. And I won't leave Xiao Jie's side. There's no chance for us."

Xiao Chen said nothing. Absurd? He didn't think so. Perhaps because he had done even more outrageous things before.

Years ago, in those dark days, he forgot family, gratitude, and trust, but never forgot the woman before him. Not a day passed without her crossing his mind.

A few years ago... he owed her his life.
