C2 Call the Police

When Xiaoli awoke from the darkness, her eyes were vacant, memories slowly returning. She wanted to convince herself it was just a dream, but the pain coursing through her body coldly reminded her—it wasn’t.

“Awake?” Xiao Chen’s deep voice came from beside her. In the morning light, his handsome face was a stark contrast to the sinister look he had last night, or maybe it was the elegant, gentle smile on his lips that made the difference.

Xiaoli sat up slowly, her eyes swollen from crying, yet it only added to her delicate beauty, making her seem even more vulnerable. She shivered uncontrollably, casting a hateful glance at Xiao Chen.

Forcing herself to calm down, she took a few deep breaths, her face cold and silent as she turned and got out of bed, not caring that she was completely exposed to the man’s increasingly dark gaze.

Trembling, Xiaoli picked up the phone from the table. The man in front of her was a lunatic! She was going to call the police!

Seeing her actions, Xiao Chen raised an intrigued eyebrow and said, “You want to call the police?”

“Shut up!” Xiaoli glared at him with hatred. “If you have the guts to break into my house and assault me, I don’t believe you won’t get the punishment you deserve!”

Her voice shook, but she tried to remain composed. Even so, when she mentioned the word "assault," her tone was filled with gritted teeth.

Punishment deserved?

Xiao Chen slowly savored those words, his smile playful. Unlike his dark and violent demeanor from the night before, he now seemed like a refined gentleman. His long fingers even placed a phone into her delicate hand. “Assault? Why don’t you try calling the police?”

He was curious to see if the police could indeed give him the “punishment he deserved.”

Chu Xiaoli's slender hand suddenly clenched her phone, the veins on her porcelain-like skin becoming visible. Her eyes were filled with anger as she glared at the man's handsome face, but she quickly calmed down, convinced he was just pretending. Did he think this would stop her from calling the police?

She swiftly pressed three numbers on her phone, her gaze never leaving the man, searching for any hint of emotion. To her disappointment, his expression remained composed and indifferent the entire time.

Could he really be unafraid? Impossible! She refused to believe that a man who broke into her home could be someone with significant influence in the city.

Given that her small apartment was located right next to the city's largest police station, it took only three minutes for a squad of well-trained officers to arrive. The lead officer was invited into the apartment by Chu Xiaoli, who pointed at Xiao Chen with her pale finger. "Officer, this is the man who barged into my home without any regard for right or wrong. Please arrest him."

Chu Xiaoli bit her lip, unable to bring herself to say the words "assaulted me."

The officer, seeing Chu Xiaoli as a delicate young woman with a wronged expression, initially looked at Xiao Chen with righteous indignation. But upon recognizing Xiao Chen's striking features, his legs went weak, and he paled, barely managing to steady himself against the wall. Suddenly, he turned on Chu Xiaoli with a severe reprimand: "Where are your eyes, woman? This must be Mr. Xiao Chen's house. You must be the one who barged in without any sense of right or wrong, trying to twist the truth. Officers, take her in for questioning!"

Several officers immediately stepped forward, handcuffs at the ready, advancing toward Chu Xiaoli with ill intent.

"You all!" Even if she had been naive before, Chu Xiaoli now understood that her earlier suspicion was correct. The man before her was likely someone with considerable power and influence... someone she, an ordinary citizen, could never hope to contend with.
