C27 Chapter 27

My neck was sore, so was my back and my legs.

I was waking up, last I remembered, I was walking and then... A truck had hit me.

Suddenly, I was aware of my surroundings, I was in a room, it was dark. I stood up, careful not to make a sound and I shifted open the curtains, it was nighttime.

I saw the sky, it was moonless.

I was terrified.

I was still looking out of the window, I couldn't see anything, I only saw trees.

“You've woken up." I heard and terror ran down my spine. My guts went cold, my hands started to shake.

I saw the figure standing there, in the dark.

“I'm not going to hurt you." He said walking forward.

I shifted back.

" Madeline. I promise, I'm not going to hurt you. “ The voice sounded awfully familiar, if only he just stood where he was.

" What do you want with me?. “ I asked him.

" Nothing. I don't want anything. “

" Then why the fuck am I here?. “

" Mandeline, look at me, I'm going to turn on the lights now, promise you won't scream, even if you did, no one would hear you, but I want you to be a good girl. “

Then the lights came on, lo and behold it was Geoffrey.

I remember the times I would stand before my father, in terror but I wouldn't look like I was even in the slightest way afraid. That was what I was doing now, standing in terror but my chin was held high, my hands were tight beside me so he wouldn't notice they were shaking.

“Oh but, I'm not a girl anymore, at least I was,” I said to him, I tried my best to conceal my fear and I made my voice as plan as possible “it's been a long time, Geoff."

“Yeah, it's been a long time and I missed you."

“Don't you know how to move on?."

“We were never divorced."

“It doesn't mean that we're still married."

“What does it mean then?."

I walked over to the bed and I sat down on it. I smiled my superior smile, something Darwin always did.

Darwin, if only he was here to save me.

“We are nothing, Geoff, how cheap of you to hit me with a car."

" I'm sorry, I didn't mean to hit you, I just tried to..."

“What? Scare me? With the way my hands are sore, I'd say my hands were tied, even my feet and I taste sometimes in my mouth, you had to drug me. “

" I had to keep you asleep, but you must understand that... “

“I have to understand what, Geoff. I'm supposed to be at home, probably asleep by now, and out of the blue you just pulled this silly trick."

I cut it off, I didn't want to give him the impression that I was a prisoner or that he was acting under his own terms, this time the table had to turn.

He turned his head, and he looked outside, I didn't know what he was staring at, maybe it was the trees or maybe it was the moonless sky that I had once stared at.

“I miss you." He said, with a little bit of tremble in his voice. He must be insane.

I was starving and I needed to get out of here as quickly as I could, Geoffrey was a mad man, I knew it once and I didn't want to see him behave mad.

“You must be hungry." He said calmly.

“No, I'm not."

“One thing I know is that, you're always hungry, the Mandeline I know Is a foodie. “

" The Mandeline I know?. “ I said laughing " No, the Mandeline you knew, I'm not the same naive eighteen years old girl.“ Finally I had found my strength and my courage was soaring. " Geoffrey, I'd like to leave, now. “

As if something flashed behind his eyes, as if so quickly, he changed back to his old self, his original self.

" Don't flatter yourself, Mandy. “ He said and then he quickly left the room.

Minutes after he had left I was still sitting, as still as I sat while he was here.

Then suddenly my first tear broke out and then the remaining come down pouring.

Then I remembered Darwin, if I could call him.

I searched for my bag, it wasn't in the room, I needed a way to get my bag. I went to the door and I turned the knob, it wouldn't budge, the door was locked from the outside.

I knocked loudly on the door, I banged on it, hell knew I depended on my phone, my life depended on it and I would do anything to get it.

“Yes?." Geoffrey said behind the door without opening it.

“I'm starving." I said to him and I waited for his reply.

“I knew you would be hungry." He said and I heard the locks come undone.

“Don't try to run, it could get ugly." He said and led me to the sitting room.

The house was wide, it had big windows and it's doors were heavy. Where were we?. In a cabin in the woods?.

“I'll be back, don't run." He said before disappearing into the hallway.

I stood up from the dinning room, I looked around the sitting room, I unturned some throw pillows, I looked behind the chairs, I looked under the tables, I was still wondering where to look when I heard his footsteps and I quickly sat where he saw me before he left.

“Stake, if it's still your favourite, but, it used to be."

He dropped the plate before me, I looked at it and God knew that I was going to devour it.

I picked up the knife and fork and I started eating. He sat beside me, I could see him with the corner of my eyes and I could hardly concentrate on my food.

“You've grown so beautiful." He said, I looked at him this time, he used his hand to brush back his sandy blonde hair, I took in his details.

He had plenty of eye brows and it was a good thing on his face, his eye lashes were long but scanty, his nose was straight and his lips were plain, it struck me as funny because when I first met him, he looked so handsome, if he should stand beside Darwin, he would look like a sidekick.
