C20 The Old Lady's Criticism
"I like it simple." Lianshuang replied indifferently. Then, her fair fingers nimbly moved between her hair as she tidied up her thick long hair.
It was a simple single-strand hairstyle. The hair behind her neck casually spread out from both sides. The rest of it was tied up with a purple hairband. A simple and generous silver hairpin was tied between her hair. Between her eyebrows was a tear-like flower.
Lianshuang's appearance was originally pretty. With just a little dressing, she was already very outstanding and there was no need to deliberately put on makeup.
After having dinner in the house, Lianshuang went to the room to look for Meiniang but she saw that the bed in the room was already neatly stacked but the person was no longer in the room.
"Do you know where mother went?" Not finding Meiniang, Lianshuang was slightly puzzled and asked Chunlin who was beside her.
According to Meiniang's habit, she was used to having breakfast with her every morning and not only did she not go with her today, she even found that she was nowhere to be seen. How could she not teach Lianshuang to think too much?
"Oh, young miss brought Qiu Lan to the old madam's place early in the morning." Chunlin replied.
After thinking for a moment, Lianshuang's eyes flashed and she said, "I should also go and greet the old mistress."
Hearing this, Chunlin's expression was slightly stunned and then she smiled and said, "Little miss actually do not need to be so reserved."
Before she could finish her words, Lianshuang interrupted her, "Do you mean that it is because I am not a real Yue family?"
Her cold tone did not reveal any emotional fluctuations but it made people feel incomparably stifled. Chunlin slightly opened her mouth and said somewhat awkwardly, "This servant did not mean that."
Lianshuang did not care about her words and took the lead to walk out. Seeing this, Chunlin was helpless and could only follow along.
The place where the old mistress lived was a courtyard called Jingan Residence and there was only an old mama and two first class girls accompanying her in the courtyard. Usually, there would not be anyone disturbing because there was a rule that everyone in Yue Residence had a tacit understanding with each other. No one was allowed to take a step into the courtyard without the old mistress's instructions.
When she heard Chunlin say that Meiniang had gone to greet the old mistress earlier today, Lianshuang could smell a trace of uneasiness.
On the way to Jingan Residence, Lianshuang did not see a single person. This made the matter seem even more strange and unpredictable. She could not help but quicken her pace.
After passing through the flower door and entering the courtyard, she was stopped by an old mama who suddenly appeared two steps away. The old mama's expression was serious and her turbid eyes were looking at Lianshuang.
"So it is the young miss who just entered the manor. Don't you know that you can't casually come to this courtyard to play?" The old mama's voice was heavy and her pair of sharp eyes stared unblinkingly at Lianshuang. There was not a trace of kindness in her voice.
"You must be Maid Guo. I have heard of you when I was in Yan City. Your son must be Brother Xuan. Mother and I have met a few times. He always mentioned you. I never thought that I would be able to see you today." Lianshuang ignored Maid Guo's cold gaze and her expression was incomparably excited.
Hearing Lianshuang's words, Maid Guo's expression changed. After pondering for a moment, she once again examined Lianshuang before asking," You know Xuan Er? "
Lianshuang quickly nodded her head and her eyes did not change and were clear and bright.
After Maid Guo asked, she did not ask Lianshuang any more questions about her son. Instead, she changed the topic back to the previous topic, "May I know why Little Miss came to Jingan Residence so early in the morning?"
Although Maid Guo's expression was still cold, Lianshuang could clearly feel that her tone of voice had clearly softened and was no longer as cold and hard as before.
"Shuang has just arrived and I think that she should greet the elders. I hope that she will not disturb the old madam." Lianshuang's behavior was very polite and respectful.
Maid Guo thought for a moment and said, "Then follow this old servant."
"Maid Xie." Lianshuang smiled and thanked.
Maid Guo was an old man by the old madam's side. Although she was only a servant, the old madam attached great importance to her, so Lianshuang felt that it was necessary to leave a good impression in front of this old man.
Following Maid Guo into the large living room, there was a square table in front of the huge living room. There were a few Buddha statues on it. In front of the Buddha statues was a wooden fish and a fruit plate.
Other than that, the rest of the decorations were simple and crude. Other than the four chairs and two tables, there was nothing else.
"Please wait here for a moment. This old servant will go and invite the old madam over." After Maid Guo brought Lianshuang over, she was about to leave.
"Thank you for your trouble." Seeing Maid Guo nod towards her and leave without looking back, Lianshuang then picked a seat and sat down.
She did not know how long she had waited but the old mistress was still in the future and Lianshuang was not angry. She knew that the old mistress was just trying to scare her.
Casually sipping the tea, about two hours passed. Chunlin, who was waiting by the side, could not help but say when she still did not see the old mistress. "The old mistress might have been tied up by something. Little Miss, do you want to come again next time?"
Lianshuang did not say anything and did not move. She still maintained the knowledge of waiting. She had patience but she was worried that her mother would encounter trouble after such a long period of time.
Just as she was thinking, a white-haired old man walked in front of the door. He held a walking stick and was dressed in fine clothing. Who else could he be but the old mistress? Other than Meiniang, there was also Yue Xier following behind her.
Seeing this situation, Lianshuang could not help but narrow her eyes dangerously. With that woman around, there would definitely be no good things.
When the group of people approached, Lianshuang walked forward unhurriedly to welcome them. "Shuang greets Grandmother." She slightly bowed and clasped her hands in a respectful and polite manner. No one could find any flaw in her words, but the old mistress had a solemn expression on her face. Yue Xier was obviously gloating over her misfortune.
It must be that woman said some nonsense to sow discord. Lianshuang shot a glance at Yue Xier and did not mind her gaze landing on the old mistress as she waited for the old man to speak.
After the old man sat down on the chair at the top, he looked at Lianshuang. There was a complicated look in her eyes and Lianshuang seemed to be able to read something.
"Meiniang, if you do not send this child away, don't blame me for forcing her out." The old mistress coldly stared at the pale Meiniang and said.
Meiniang's eyes were filled with tears. The difficulty and reluctance in her eyes could not be expressed with words. She looked at Lianshuang and then looked at the old mistress. The corner of her mouth twitched but she could not say a word.
