C18 Chapter Eighteen

Chapter Eighteen

Fiona's POV:

"What!" Whitman said in disbelief.

"You are kidding, huh." He asked me.

"No, I am not." I answered him.

"I am doing this solely for our good." I told him.

"What good?" He asked me almost inaudibly.

"Are you not surprised that the loan allegations against your company were revoked quickly?" I asked Whitman.

"Maybe they were able to detect an error.. somewhere." He said.

"Or a miracle happened." He said.

"Uncle Victor was the conspirator. All the cameras, I am sure he did all that." I said.

"Uncle Victor cannot do such a thing to me. He is my uncle and godfather too." He said.

"Look, this was the text I got from him yesterday. He agreed to reverse the loan allegations on my father's company and yours but on one condition." I told him.

"And what condition?" He asked me.

"That I get married to his son, Alexander." I said.

"What!" He exclaimed in disbelief.

"No, you are kidding right?" He asked me.

"You should have told me, Fiona. I do not care about the company but you." He said.

"I don't mind losing the company for you. I can't imagine losing you, Fiona." Whitman said in pain.

"The deed has been done." I told him crying.

"I am not going to watch this happen." He told me.

I went home after a long talk with Whitman. He was not going to give in.

This made me really scared for him.

"Thank you, Fiona." Thomas told me as he hugged me in a warm embrace.

"Thank you? Whatever for?" I asked him.

"For accepting to marry Alexander and get Dad's company back." He said.

"Oh please." I told him as I waved my hand uninterested.

Alexander's POV:

"I heard Fiona was with Whitman today." I told Dad.

"That boy, he should consider himself for getting his company back." Dad said.

"This was exactly what got his father poisoned to death. He always got in my way." He told me.

"Wait! Did you do that, Dad?" I asked my father.

"Yes and I am glad I did." He replied.

"But he was your brother's father." I said.

"Stop acting like a weakling, Alex. You've gotta do these things to survive in this industry, else you would go extinct." Dad told me.

"That's how you fight and pursue what you want." He told me as he patted me on the back.

"Fight and pursue what you want." This statement echoed in my head for the rest of the night.

Fiona's POV:

The next day, I went to see Uncle Victor and finalize the issues surrounding my father's business.

"Hi Fiona." Alexander greeted me but I ignored. I was not ready for any drama that day.

"You should get used to each other and forget the past." Uncle Victor said as soon as he noticed.

"Besides you both would be planning your wedding very soon." He added as I cussed under my breath.

"I hate the day you came into my family's life." I said silently to myself.

"Sure, Uncle. I have forgiven everything and I am trying to forget about the past." I said with a smile.

"But I would love to have quiet, small weddings.. how about you, Alex?" I asked, smiling.

I left and I headed straight to my father's office. It felt nostalgic.

I remembered how I would drive to work every morning with my father.

"I miss you daddy." I said with my eyes filled with tears.

"Congratulations, Miss Fiona." The manager told me as soon as I got to the office.

"You've fought well." He added.

"Thank you." I answered, faking a smile.

"Enjoy your stay, because I would definitely fire you." I said to myself as I walked into my office.

I got all the important documents from my office and my father's office. My office looked like it had been abandoned for decades.

"Would you need anything, Miss Fiona?" The manager asked me. He has been pacing to and fro.

"He is trying to spy." I said to myself.

"No." I answered him.

I left that day to return the next fully prepared and take out the weeds from my father's company.

"The time is here." I told myself happily as I looked at the sack letters.

"I am so sorry, Mr manager. Thank you for your services but I do not think the company needs them again." I told the manager.

"Thank you for all you've done for the while I was away." I said.

"One good turn deserves another." I said quietly to myself.

"Let's see who wins this time. It is a game and it is meant to be played well." I told myself.

I am beginning to have trust issues, not after what Thomas did.

I could not even talk to anyone.. not even Veronica. I feel like she can be trusted but for now, I would keep everything to myself.

"Fiona, can I talk to you?" Thomas asked me, snapping me back to reality.

"I am sorry for how I have been towards you these past days." Thomas said.

"I was just overwhelmed by everything and I let my emotions get the best of me. I am sorry." Thomas apologized.

"It's okay, Victor. You are the only family I have now. Let us stick by each other." I told him as I patted him on the back.

Thomas was still in touch with Uncle Victor but thinks that I am not aware. He is probably spying on me.

The thought of this alone breaks me. How can my own brother do this to me, I have always wondered.

I invited Thomas and Veronica for dinner, and to keep a close look on Thomas, who seemed to be on his phone throughout.

"Cheers to freedom." I said as we made a toast.

We had dinner happily and we left.

"Yes Uncle Victor, I think she feels satisfied by the conditions." Thomas said at night over the phone.

"Uncle Victor again." I said to myself.

"Thomas needs to be careful with the kind of people he is mingling with these days." Veronica told me as she walked past me.

"Go on Victor and I would definitely play a fast one on you." I said to myself with a smirk on my face.
