C20 Chapter Twenty

Chapter Twenty

Alexander's POV:

"I saw Whitman with Fiona yesterday.. he was at her place." I told Dad.

"Why would Fiona still be entertaining that riffraff up to this time?" Dad asked me.

"I felt he was stalking her and asked him to leave." I clarified.

"Oh, that must be amazing. She is keeping to her own end of the deal." Dad said impressed.

"You should get ready. You would be becoming the newest CEO in a short while."

"Yeah, but that would be after the wedding." He told me.

"But would Fiona handle her company and assist with ours too?" I asked him.

"Yours, you meant to say." Dad corrected me.

"You just leave that to me." Dad answered with a smirk.

Fiona's POV:

It felt like I literally got up from the wrong side of the bed.

I woke up feeling like I was up against the whole world.

I got out of bed late only to meet an empty house with my breakfast by my bedside and a written note.

"Aww, how thoughtful." I thought.

"Sure." I said out loud as I read the note.

Veronica told me I could stop by the coffee shop if I was tired of staying at home.

"I think I will be fine here." I said to myself as I got into the shower to freshen up.

I got out of the shower and I sat to have my breakfast, when I had a call.

"Whitman." I said quietly to myself not even bothering to get the phone.

"Can you just stop bothering me?" I said, rolling my eyes as it rang again.

"Okay, I think I am done hearing this phone ring." I said as I picked the device.

"Hello." I answered the phone.

"Fiona, I need you to come to the coffee shop now." She told me.

"What is the issue, mom?" I asked her in panic.

"The issue is under control but I need you here," she said.

"Okay. Okay." I answered her.

"I will be on my way now." I said as I got to my closet to get dressed.

"I hope everything is fine anywhere they are." I said as I got out of the house.

"Mom, what is the problem?" I asked as I got to the coffee shop.

" Thomas got hit by a vehicle on his way to school today." Veronica told me.

"I do not know why this is happening now. Just when he is planning on going to college." Veronica lamented.

"You know what? Just stay here." Veronica told me.

"I would go to the hospital myself." She told me.

"No, I would come with you aunty." I protested.

"Okay then, let us shut down the shop and get going." She told me.

"Welcome Miss Fiona and Veronica." The doctor said as we arrived.

"Follow me to my office please." He asked us as we followed him quietly.

"We need a blood donor immediately, so you do not lose Thomas." The doctor said.

"Because we had a challenge." He added.

"But what is it, doc?" I asked him.

"Thomas has a rare blood type which has not made it easy for us." He answered me.

"From the records, it shows that he shares that blood type with just his mother," the doctor said.

"So if you can get her here, we will be so appreciative." The doctor said again.

"Wait!" I said.

"Are you trying to mock us, doctor?" I asked him in anger.

"My mom died in this hospital, after the birth of my brother." I told the doctor.

"Are you trying to tell me that you have no record of my mother and brother, that you are asking me to let her come donate blood?" I said in anger.

"Calm down, Miss." The receptionist told me because I was starting to create a scene.

"Do not tell me to calm down. Just get the damn job done." I said as I left the area.

"But Miss..." The doctor tried to say.

"Do not buy me doctor." I told him.

"Fiona, you need to know what the doctor is trying to say." Veronica told me aside.

"It is for our own good and for the good of Thomas, your brother." Veronica explained to me.

"But they need to do their job. Besides, we currently have no one to turn to, just the hospital mom." I explained to her.

Two hours later, the doctor called us into his office.

"Have your seat." The doctor told us both as we entered the office.

"Thomas lost a lot of blood before he was brought into the hospital." He started.

"Although, we have asked the public and those with his blood type to assist us." The doctor added.

"We are doing our best and we will also need you to do your part too." He told us.

"We will try our best doctor." Veronica said while I remained quiet.

"You look stressed, Fiona." Veronica told me.

"I think you should go home." She told me.

"Have you had breakfast?" She asked me again.

"No, Mom.. I was about to leave when your call came in this morning." I answered.

"Oh. You really need to go home and have something. I take care of everything while you are away." Veronica told me.

"No, I'll…" I tried to say.

"Shh." Veronica said with her hand across her lips.

"Okay, mom." I said and I left the hospital.

I got home in despair. The thought of Thomas made me feel more helpless.

I had my breakfast and packed some food for Veronica and Thomas.

"They have been through a lot." I told myself as I packed.

"Hello." I greeted the receptionist.

"I do not know if you have seen any elderly woman around. She was wearing a gray tank top and black pants." I described.

"No, ma'am." She answered.

"Is she a patient?" The receptionist asked me.

"No." I answered.

"You can wait there. Maybe she just stepped out." She told me, pointing to a seat.

"Thanks." I told her as I left.

"I need you in my office Miss Fiona." The doctor said as he got out of the operation theater.

"We have successfully done the blood transfusion," the doctor said.

"Thank God. How much did you offer the donor?" I asked.GT

"No, the donor didn't ask for such. Besides, it was a close relative," the doctor said.

"Close relative?" I asked. I was confused.

"But I have none." I said. I was still confused.
