C22 Chapter Twenty-Two

Chapter Twenty-Two

Fiona's POV:

It has been three weeks since Thomas was admitted to the hospital. It has been one of the most stressful phases of our lives.

"Mom, I think you should just focus on the coffee shop." I told Veronica.

"The stress from the past week is taking a toll on you." I told her as I noticed her eyes.

"But I am not complaining Fiona." She answered me.

"I do not want you sick Mom. I can take care of Thomas." I told her.

"Trust me." I added as Veronica replied with a nod.

"Mom. How are your children doing?" I asked.

"When are they going to come visiting?" I asked Veronica.

"Oh, they should be around soon." Veronica told me.

"I would love to meet them someday." I told her.

"Off to work, Mom, will be at the hospital in four hours." I told her.

"Be safe, darling." Veronica said as I left the house.

"Good morning, ma'am." The secretary greeted me.

"Good morning." I replied.

"The board of directors have scheduled an urgent meeting to see you." The secretary announced.

"The new or outgoing?" I asked the secretary.

"The outgoing ma'am." The secretary replied.

"Why did you not inform me till now?" I asked her.

"I got the information just this morning." The secretary replied.

"That is okay." I replied.

"Reschedule." I added.

"But..." The secretary tried to say.

"I am and would be very busy today, so you have to reschedule the meeting." I explained.

"Okay." The secretary replied.

"You can leave." I told the secretary with a wave of hand.

"Bunch of backstabbers!" I said to myself in the office.

"Dad had over a hundred properties in this city but they are all gone." I told myself as I got some documents from the office.

"Uncle Victor must be responsible for this." I thought.

"Lemme give him a call." I said.

"Anything you've gotta say about your business should be done in my home." Uncle Victor said as soon as he answered the call.

"Oh. Okay." I stuttered before the call ended.

"Do not be surprised, Fiona. The so called board of directors ran the company and formed an alliance with Victor to bring your father down." I said under my breath.

I was at Victor Harrington's mansion once again.

I could see Alexander watching me from the balcony, but I ignored him because I was not here for him.

"I am sorry for not informing you before taking the decision I took about the board of directors." I apologized to Uncle Victor.

"But you should have consulted me." He insisted.

"I am so sorry, Uncle." I apologized again.

"To convince me, you need to revoke all what you did and we can talk business after that." Uncle Victor told me.

"But Uncle. What if they are not willing to return?" I asked him.

"Just do your part and I will do the rest." He told me.

"Okay." I said disappointed.

I was not going to do that, so I decided to go with a plan B.

"Hi, Alexander." I called him from the ground floor.

"It has been a while since we met." I told him, faking a smile.

"Sorry, I couldn't say hi because I was rushing to see Dad." I said as he came to meet me.

"How have you been? Oh, I've missed you so much..." I said, hugging him tight.

"Why the sudden change?" He asked me, astonished.

"Oh, I know. Pardon my attitude. Thomas' health has been taking a toll on me." I said pouting.

"I feel for you. Just know that I am here for you anytime you need me." Alexander told me.

"Thank you, my love." I said as I hugged him again.

"Bye, Fiona." He said as I got into the vehicle.

"Nitwit." I said under my breath as I drove off.

Alexander's POV:

"Fiona is starting to reciprocate the love I have for her." I said as I watched her drive off.

"Dad, why do you look angry?" I asked Dad, seeing his countenance.

"That girl, Fiona is trying to ruin my plans." Dad said, hitting his fist on the couch.

"I do not understand you Dad." I asked in confusion.

"She is trying to ruin my plans." He answered.

"Is this about her father's company or something else?" I asked him.

"Why do you ask questions like a kid?" Dad retorted.

"But I thought you had handed over the company to her already?" I asked him.

"Yeah but I still have my plans about that company." He told me.

"This is not fair, dad. She already agreed to your conditions." I said.

"Are you sure I can trust you with my business because you are too cold to be called my son." Dad said.

"Gosh, just get out of my way." Dad said as he pushed from his side.

"This is not fair." I said again to myself.

I pulled up at the hospital to check on Thomas. I haven't seen him since he was admitted.

"Oh, you are here." I said as I bumped into Fiona in the ward.

"Yes. I am." She replied.

"I thought to check up on him. I haven't been here since he got in here." I said pointing at Thomas.

"Thanks for stopping by. It has been stressful staying up here all alone." Fiona told me.

"I am so sorry." I told her.

We chit- chatted for close to three hours but I noticed she was busy on her phone, so I excused myself for a while.

I sat outside the hospital for some time, because sitting in there makes me feel sick, so I decided to have some fresh air.

"I missed you so much." I heard someone behind me.

It was two couples but I could only see the man. His back was against mine.

"Aww." I said.

"It is not easy being here alone." I said again.

"I am sorry for how I treated you. I could not watch you leave me, just like that." She told him.

"I wasn't myself all this time. I thought you wouldn't come back, Fiona." He said.

"Fiona, it could be a coincidence." I told myself, just then we locked eyes.

"Fiona." I said in disbelief as she stood in surprise.
