C13 First Day of Work 8
"More than five years? As far as I know, this account has been under review since 2012, right? How could a financial record that hasn't passed our company's audit make it into the IRS system?" Shaowen's captivating eyes narrowed slightly, unintentionally adding a layer of pressure.
Qianqian quietly observed from the side. Although she wanted to plead on behalf of the accountant, it was clear the accountant was deliberately trying to give her a hard time. Since someone was finally standing up for her, why not let them?
"I... I'll review it as soon as possible," the accountant muttered, lowering her head.
"And what does this account have to do with Secretary Xu? Should the current secretary handle records left by the 2012 secretary? Or do you think there's a problem with the company's handover process? If so, feel free to file a complaint with HR. I'm sure Zhang Nan will be more than happy to clear things up for you." As Shaowen finished speaking, the accountant's face turned pale.
She quickly nodded in apology and tidied up the paperwork, leaving not a speck of dust for Qianqian.
Is Zhang Nan really that intimidating?
Qianqian frowned in confusion. Shaowen was also a director, yet the woman didn't seem as frightened in front of him. But the mere mention of Zhang Nan changed her demeanor entirely. Could it be...
Oh, right, Zhang Nan is in HR, in charge of payroll. And with most of the salary tied to performance bonuses these days, any deductions could leave you with next to nothing.
Indeed, in this world, money still reigns supreme.
"Thank you," Qianqian said, bowing to Shaowen in gratitude. He was the first man in the company to stand up for her, and she had to admit, she had her own motives too. Building a good relationship with someone at the director level could only be beneficial.
"It was nothing," Shaowen replied, giving Qianqian a curious glance.
A female secretary? That's interesting. Could it be that Yechen has had a change of heart?
"Director Leng is awake. You can go in now," Xu Qianqian said, noticing that Yechen had woken up. She knocked on the door and invited Shaowen in.
As soon as Shaowen entered, he locked eyes with Yechen's deep, night-like gaze.
Wow, what's with the chill in here? Did the air conditioning break? It's freezing," Shaowen joked.
Little did he know, Yechen's mood was due to Xu Qianqian outside.
"So, what brings you here this time?" Yechen asked, his lips barely moving, his dark, narrow eyes glinting with a hint of coldness.
He glanced at Shaowen, then at Xu Qianqian, who was still busy at her computer outside, and his expression softened slightly.
They'd only just met, so there shouldn't be anything to worry about, right? But Shaowen was famously uninterested in women, not even having female friends, let alone a girlfriend.
"What else? It's about that proposal from the American BBS. They've approved it, but they want us to provide the funding. Plus, they expect us to cover all research expenses..."
Xu Qianqian looked at the door, thinking to herself, Shaowen must be the first to talk with Yechen for three hours straight. But that's good; it gives her a chance to take a breather and get to know the company's staff better.
At her request, Zhang Nan quickly provided her with a list of company personnel and introduced her to all the key directors, detailing their positions, responsibilities, and even their work locations.
When she got to Shaowen's page, Xu Qianqian couldn't help but take a closer look.
Shaowen, a graduate of a prestigious American university, is primarily responsible for the company's product development. The specifics of his research are confidential, and he mostly works in the U.S., rarely returning unless there's an urgent matter.
So, was his appearance this time, and the help he offered, purely her good fortune?
As Shaowen stepped out of Yechen's office, Qianqian hurried over, bowing slightly with a polite smile. "Thank you so much for today, Director Xie. If you ever need any help in the future, just let me know."
Qianqian had initially thought of inviting Shaowen to dinner to strengthen their rapport. However, as Yechen's personal assistant, she needed to be by his side at all times, so she dismissed the idea.
"I do have a favor to ask, Secretary Xu," Shaowen said thoughtfully, his mischievous eyes glinting.
"Oh? What is it?" Qianqian replied with a cheerful smile, surprised at the chance to repay the favor so soon.
"If nothing unexpected happens, Director Leng will likely invite us to dinner tonight. When that happens, please go easy on me," Shaowen said with a charming grin before striding away, leaving Qianqian standing there, puzzled.
Director Leng inviting them to dinner? Why would he need her to go easy on him?
Well, she'll find out tonight anyway.
