C143 We Meet Again
They stepped out of the mansion's grand entrance and left Snow Dragon Villa behind.
Zhang Qimo wore a look of resignation as she glanced at Lin Yin, who remained silent.
"Lin Yin, where do you plan to take my sister for dinner? Surely you're not thinking of a roadside stall? You don't seem to have much money. Tell you what, my boyfriend will cover dinner tonight," Lu Wei said with a smug smile.
She was determined to outshine Zhang Qimo, to flaunt her capabilities. Who could blame her for being so exceptional? What good were the renowned jewelers of East Sea Province? It was better to secure a good man. Now that Zhang Qimo was out of a job, she'd have to help her find work.
With each thought, Lu Wei's smugness grew. She boldly appraised Zhang Qimo, feeling superior in her beauty and her relationship with a Young Master from a prestigious family. Her life was far better than Zhang Qimo's hard-earned one!
"There's no need, Luwei. You go ahead and enjoy your meal," Zhang Qimo responded.
"Oh, that won't do, Sister Qimo. Are you looking down on me?" teased Lu Wei. "Or are you worried that Lin Yin's choice will be too modest, and you'll be embarrassed?"
"It's not that, Lu Wei, you..." Zhang Qimo began, attempting to reason with Luwei, when suddenly, a stately Maserati pulled up.
The horn sounded.
"Sister Qimo, you should really stop driving that outdated BMW of yours. It's practically an antique," Luwei boasted with pride. "See this? This is my boyfriend's driver's car—a Maserati, no less. It's quite the statement, isn't it? Once we're married, he's going to gift me a luxury car worth millions. I'm on my way to marrying into wealth."
While she was speaking, the Maserati's driver opened the door, smiling. "Miss Lu, our Young Master has sent me to pick you up specifically."
"Come on, Sister Qimo. Tonight, I'll take you to the most luxurious mall in the city center. My boyfriend is planning to buy me a gift," Lu Wei boasted, clearly overjoyed at the prospect.
Zhang Qimo glanced at Lin Yin.
"Let's go. Now's a good time, Qimo, for you to pick something out. Buy whatever you like," Lin Yin suggested with a serene tone.
"Oh? Lin Yin, you're quite the talker, aren't you? No wonder Qimo fell for your sweet talk. How can you spout such nonsense with a straight face? Do you even have the means to afford it?" Lu Wei scoffed. "Come on, Sister Qimo, I'll buy you something, but let's not go overboard—anything up to thirty thousand is fair game for you to choose from!"
With that, Lu Wei took the passenger seat, while Lin Yin and Zhang Qimo naturally settled into the back. The driver ignited the engine, and they swiftly made their way towards the vibrant city center.
"Sister Qimo, I've lined up some work for you tonight. From now on, just focus on your job. I'll make sure to take you out and show you the world. Just look at yourself—do you own anything that's truly top-notch?" Lu Wei lectured, assuming the role of Zhang Qimo's benefactor.
Lin Yin just smirked silently, perplexed by the allure of money. How could it make someone act so foolishly? He couldn't grasp the supposed charm of money at all.
Twenty minutes later, the Maserati pulled up along a bustling street in the heart of the city center, outside the prestigious Irent Mall, a direct retail venture of an international Fortune 500 company, renowned throughout Qingyun City.
After Lin Yin and Zhang Qimo stepped out of the car, Luwei hurried over to a young man waiting at the curb.
Dressed in an ostentatious suit and sporting an oversized gold watch, the young man exuded an air of importance, even with sunglasses on in the dead of night.
"Hey, Luwei, you made it. Are these the friends you mentioned?" the young man inquired, removing his sunglasses at a leisurely pace.
"Yes, this is my cousin. She's recently unemployed, and I'm counting on you to help her find a new job," Luwei boasted, flirting and linking arms with the man.
Now without his sunglasses, the young man's sleazy demeanor became apparent as he eyed Lin Yin and Zhang Qimo with a mix of surprise and suspicion.
"Oh! It's you, the good-for-nothing? Do you remember me? I'm Qin Fei!" Qin Fei declared with an air of triumph.
Lin Yin furrowed his brow and gave Qin Fei a sidelong glance, recognizing him as Wang Ziwen's lackey.
He inwardly shook his head. His former boss, Wang Ziwen, had been reduced to begging on the streets—something he likely didn't even know yet.
"How can you be so disrespectful? Lin Yin is not a loser. He's just supported by my sister," Lu Wei said sarcastically.
"Right, I forgot, Lin Yin is quite adept at being taken care of," Qin Fei said mockingly.
Then, turning to Zhang Qimo with a taunting expression, Qin Fei continued, "Qimo, look at you now. When Young Master Wang favored you, you threw it all away. Now you've been fired, haven't you? I heard from Young Master Wang himself that he's now the chairman of Zhang's Group. If you need a job, it's simple—beg me, and I'll plead with Young Master Wang Ziwen on your behalf."
"Let's not talk about jobs right now. Let's go inside and shop for some luxury items. Qimo, pick something out, anything up to thirty thousand yuan," Lu Wei said, exuding an air of magnanimity.
With that, Lu Wei and Qin Fei turned and strutted into the opulent jewelry boutique.
"Go ahead and choose, Qimo," Lin Yin said calmly, "If you find something you like, I can afford to buy this entire mall for you."
Zhang Qimo gave Lin Yin a skeptical look, saying nothing. Though Lin Yin had displayed considerable clout, the idea of him purchasing the entire Irent Mall on a whim was far-fetched—it was worth at least several billion.
Nonetheless, she felt a surge of happiness. Hand in hand with Lin Yin, Zhang Qimo entered the mall.
The mall's interior was lavishly decorated, with bright lights shining on glass cases filled with precious jewelry. The showcase items were Elenster brand pieces, with prices soaring into the hundreds of thousands for a single item.
As they entered the mall, Lu Wei was already trying on a platinum necklace, preening in front of the mirror. Catching sight of Lin Yin and Zhang Qimo, she snapped her fingers to get their attention.
"Waiter, please wrap up this necklace—it's worth 200,000 yuan—and I'll settle the bill," Lu Wei commanded confidently, her head held high as she regarded Zhang Qimo.
"Qimo, isn't my necklace beautiful? I've picked out one for you as well. It's gold and costs over thirty thousand yuan. But you should be content; for someone of your status, wearing a gold necklace is quite an upgrade," Lu Wei said assertively, pointing to a gold necklace and making decisions for Zhang Qimo with an air of authority.
Lin Yin chuckled, turned to the saleswoman, and requested, "Show me the most expensive necklace you have here. Bring it over, please."
