C44 Second Aunt of the Zhang Family
"Have you been moved by his gesture?" Lu Yahui said dismissively, "He's lived with us for two years. Buying us a house is the least he could do! Don't start thinking we owe him anything."
"He's quite calculating, isn't he? He knows he's made money because of you, so he's trying to curry favor with us. Daughter, don't be fooled into thinking Lin Yin is buying us a house out of the goodness of his heart."
Lu Yahui gave Zhang Qimo a serious look and continued, "He's just laying the groundwork for himself. He's probably worried about running into trouble at the company. If he buys us a house now, he's likely thinking you'd be obligated to help him if anything happens to him later."
Zhang Xiufeng pondered for a moment and then remarked, "Lin Yin is quite sensible. He may be just an assistant, but he's doing well for himself and is quite talented."
"If he were to leave Qimo, he'd be back to square one, selling barbecue," Lu Yahui said with a hint of smugness.
"Daughter, don't get too caught up in your designs. You need to socialize and make new friends," Lu Yahui advised. "Even your assistant is good at networking. You can't fall behind. When you're not busy, make sure to remind Lin Yin to keep a low profile, especially around you."
Zhang Qimo felt a wave of speechlessness.
Her parents might not be aware, but she knew very well that Lin Yin had substantial savings.
"Once we've settled into the new house and arranged all the furniture, we should throw a big celebration and invite all our relatives and friends!" Lu Yahui exclaimed excitedly.
"Our family certainly hasn't had much excitement in a while," Zhang Xiufeng agreed with a nod.
Over the next few days, Qimo's parents were preoccupied with setting up the new house. They invited relatives and friends to a banquet at the nearby Shuiyuan Hotel.
On the day of the banquet, Lin Yin made a brief appearance, had a couple of drinks, and then returned home.
He didn't know any of the relatives from either Lu Yahui's or Zhang Xiufeng's side, and it seemed they weren't too keen on having him join the celebration.
Lin Yin stayed home, attending to his own well-being.
After about half an hour at home, his phone began to ring.
Shen San made a phone call.
"Master Lin, regarding what you instructed me earlier, Sunn Heng reached out to me today," Shen San spoke with reverence on the other end of the line.
Lin Yin inquired, "What did Sunn Heng have to say?"
"Sunn Heng questioned why I hadn't sent anyone after you. I informed him that I was too busy for such trivial matters and subsequently declined his offer," Shen San stated earnestly.
"He then proposed a higher payment and requested a face-to-face meeting," Shen San continued slowly. "Master Lin, should I arrange to meet him and set him straight?"
"There's no need," Lin Yin replied coolly. "Your actions would be futile. Sunn Heng's roots are in the Sunn Family. If I intend to take action against him, I'll strike directly at his foundation."
"Master Lin, are you suggesting we take down the Sunn Family?" Shen San asked tentatively, his voice tinged with disbelief.
He was still unaware of the extent of Lin Yin's backing.
Yet, he was quite familiar with the Sunn Family of Qingyun City—a colossal, century-old dynasty!
Third Master Shen, the most formidable figure in Southern City, could easily rival a second-tier family like the Zhang Family and could harm such a family without a second thought.
But if he were to directly confront a premier family like the Sunn Family, Shen San would be signing his own death warrant.
The elite families of Qingyun City—the Sunn, Zhou, and Wang Families—had deep-rooted connections and immense wealth throughout the city. Members of these families excelled in various industries and wielded considerable resources.
Should Lin Yin manage to topple the Sunn Family, it would confirm he had a powerful patron behind him.
"Just await my instructions," Lin Yin stated impassively.
"Understood, Master Lin," Shen San responded with due respect.
Lin Yin hung up and massaged his temples.
Sunn Heng was relentless, still scheming against him?
After some contemplation, Lin Yin dialed Wu Yang, requesting a comprehensive dossier on the Sunn Family of Qingyun City to be compiled and delivered to him.
No sooner had Lin Yin ended the call than the doorbell chimed. Zhang Qimo and her parents had arrived home.
Zhang Xiufeng's cheeks were flushed with a rosy tint, his spirits high, evidently having indulged in quite a bit of wine at the banquet.
"Today, I really felt respected! First Bro and Third Bro didn't show up. Second Sister and Fourth Brother came in person to celebrate with us. It's all because Qimo has become so capable!" Zhang Xiufeng said, beaming with pride.
"In the jewelry world, who doesn't know our Qimo?" Lu Yahui declared with a hint of arrogance.
As she spoke, Zhang Xiufeng, unsteady on his feet, stumbled back to his room to lie down and rest.
"Qimo, you need to take seriously what Second Aunt discussed with you today," Lu Yahui instructed earnestly. "Second Aunt holds you in high regard. Following her advice is always a wise decision."
"I understand," Zhang Qimo responded, her expression betraying a sense of reluctance.
Lin Yin, with a slight furrow in his brow, inquired, "Qimo, what's going on with Second Aunt?"
He was familiar with Qimo's Second Aunt, Zhang Hongyu, a formidable woman in her own right. She had carved out a successful path for herself, having established her own enterprise long ago instead of staying with Zhang's Jewelry Corporation, which meant their paths crossed infrequently.
Zhang Hongyu had left the Jewelry Group before the Old Master of the Zhang Family had passed away, diving into her passion for antiques and starting her own business. After years of hard work, she had become a well-known figure in Qingyun City's antique and collectibles circles.
Her fortune was on par with that of Zhang Hongjun and Zhang Hongxuan.
"Lin Yin, this doesn't concern you, so please don't pry," Lu Yahui stated firmly, seemingly keen to keep Lin Yin out of the loop.
Lin Yin's frown deepened as he glanced at Qimo.
Zhang Qimo also looked at Lin Yin, contemplative, and asked, "Lin Yin, are you familiar with antiques?"
She recalled that during a previous design session, Lin Yin had shown a deep understanding of jewelry and gemstone design, demonstrating exceptional expertise.
"I have some knowledge," Lin Yin admitted.
He had spent his childhood learning about antique collecting from his master.
After a moment's thought, Zhang Qimo said decisively, "Lin Yin, join me at an antique circle exchange meeting in a couple of days."
"Lin Yin doesn't know anything about it; why would you bring him along?" Lu Yahui asked with concern, quickly trying to dissuade her. "You're just asking for trouble. Second Aunt is offering you a fantastic opportunity. Don't let Lin Yin mess it up."
"You have to understand, in our Zhang Family, your dad really only gets along with your Second Aunt. So, try not to upset her."
"It's just that Second Aunt insists on setting me up with some aristocratic young master, which is incredibly irritating," Zhang Qimo said with a sigh of resignation.
