C63 I Didn't Lie
"Mom, what's wrong?" Zhang Qimo stood up and walked over, a puzzled look on her face as she regarded Lin Yin.
"My daughter, can't you see?" Lu Yahui was visibly upset, stamping her foot. "Lin Yin has the nerve to be with another woman! Isn't that just too bold of him?"
"He's living under our roof, depending on our daughter for income, and he still lacks any shred of conscience. He can't make his own money, so he follows the example of lowlifes by taking a mistress. It's absolutely maddening!" Lu Yahui fumed, convinced of Lin Yin's infidelity.
Zhang Qimo's expression soured as she said, "Mom, let's not be hasty in our judgment. Surely Lin Yin wouldn't do as you claim."
"How could I be wrong about him?" Lu Yahui snorted, feeling increasingly uneasy as she glared at Lin Yin. "Daughter, just smell the perfume on him. It's so obvious, and you can smell it from afar. It's not a cheap fragrance either; it's a clear sign of his cheating!"
Zhang Qimo hesitated to move closer but could still catch the scent of rose perfume from where she stood. She never wore that particular fragrance and could tell its quality – it was definitely not low-end. Could it be that Lin Yin really had a mistress?
Zhang Qimo eyed Lin Yin with suspicion, but he remained composed, betraying no hint of deceit.
"Hmph!" Zhang Xiufeng let out a contemptuous grunt, looking sternly at Lin Yin. "Lin Yin, what were you thinking? You've already caused a huge scene at Mingbao House, daring to cross the Wang Family's heir. And instead of coming home, you're off gallivanting with another woman!"
"What do you think my daughter is?" Zhang Xiufeng's temper rose as he glowered at Lin Yin.
"Is there any need to say more? I've already figured Lin Yin out," Lu Yahui said coldly. "He's just leeching off Qimo. So when Second Sister introduced Qimo to the Wang Family's nephew, he became jealous of her prospects. Afraid she'd surpass him, he felt inadequate and did everything in his power to embarrass her."
"Is that your thinking? Don't you want Qimo to live a better life?" Zhang Xiufeng asked angrily.
"He's absolutely reprehensible, sabotaging Qimo's prospects and causing enormous trouble for our family. And yet, he still finds time to gallivant with other women?" Lu Yahui said bitterly, her cold gaze piercing Lin Yin. "Have you no conscience?"
This time, Zhang Qimo didn't defend Lin Yin. With a curious expression, she asked, "Lin Yin, what were you doing earlier? Were you actually with another woman?"
"I wasn't out looking for a woman; she came to me," Lin Yin replied honestly to Zhang Qimo.
"What? Can you believe what he's saying?" Lu Yahui exclaimed, glaring at Lin Yin. "He has no respect for Qimo or for us, his elders! To brazenly speak such shameful words in front of us!"
"Do you realize who's been taking care of you? Without Qimo's help, you'd be back to selling on the streets—do you get that?" Lu Yahui was so enraged that veins popped out on her forehead.
"Mom, let's not jump to conclusions and scold Lin Yin right away. Let's hear what he was really doing," Zhang Qimo suggested seriously.
"Do I even need to ask? He's openly confessed! He's completely ignored his family's well-being to offend the Wang Family. What sins have I committed to endure such a son-in-law? It's so unfair to you, my daughter, to be in a marriage with such a heartless man!" Lu Yahui expressed her grievances.
"Lin Yin, what did that woman want from you? Where did you go?" Zhang Qimo asked, her voice filled with concern.
"I was at the teahouse, negotiating a deal," Lin Yin answered.
"What kind of deal? Who were you meeting with?" Zhang Qimo pressed.
Lin Yin looked at Zhang Qimo and said with conviction, "Miss Wang from the Wang Family, Wang Hongling. I only met her today. She wants to hire me for a position at a collectibles firm."
"You're shameless!" Lu Yahui's fury intensified as she listened, and she coldly demanded, "How can you so shamelessly spin these tales? Miss Wang from the Wang Family approached you for business? What makes you think you're important enough for her to notice? What skills do you have that she would come to you?"
"Lin Yin, your claim is utterly ridiculous!" Zhang Xiufeng scoffed, obviously not buying Lin Yin's story.
Who was Lin Yin? A well-known loser in Qingyun City, the butt of the joke when it came to his family!
To think he was saying that Miss Wang took the initiative to seek him out, recognizing his talent, and wanted to bring him into the company?
And who was Wang Hongling? The precious only daughter of the Wang Family patriarch! The Wang Family's prized gem, the one whom countless heirs of Qingyun City's elite families tried to cozy up to with flattery, but she simply looked down on them.
"I'm not lying," Lin Yin stated firmly, looking directly at Zhang Qimo.
Zhang Qimo nodded and said, "I believe you."
Her parents might not know about Lin Yin's talents, but she had seen with her own eyes Lin Yin's mesmerizing expertise in appraising treasures at Mingbao House.
Therefore, it was very likely that he had caught the attention of others.
Moreover, in her memory, Lin Yin had never lied to her.
Lin Yin nodded, not wanting to explain any further. Qimo's trust was enough for him.
He never bothered to clear up misunderstandings with anyone else, except for Qimo.
"Daughter? You believe his nonsense?" Lu Yahui looked at Zhang Qimo incredulously, exclaiming, "Oh my God! Daughter, he has caused you and our family so much trouble, and you still believe him?"
"Lin Yin's story is full of holes, and yet, daughter, you believe it? You're far too naive!" Zhang Xiufeng sighed helplessly.
"Fine, Lin Yin, now it's my turn to ask you," Lu Yahui said, her tone full of pent-up frustration, as if she had a bellyful of fire that was far from being extinguished.
