C24 Birthday Gift

"Oh..." Cheng Yunfei glanced at Lin Sheng and nodded in acknowledgment.

She was at a loss about the whole situation. If Liu Yunhua had indeed lent a hand, it would make sense.

Yet, considering Liu Yunhua's connection, there seemed to be no reason for Wang Jian to be so courteous towards Lin Sheng.

And if Liu Yunhua hadn't been the one to help, was it possible that Wang Jian was simply showing respect for Lin Sheng's sake? That seemed even less likely.

After much deliberation, Cheng Yunfei couldn't unravel the mystery. She decided it wasn't worth pondering any further.

The details were known only to Lin Sheng, and since he wasn't sharing, Cheng Yunfei had no desire to pry. As Huacheng's renowned iceberg beauty, she had her own sense of pride.

"By the way, your grandfather's 70th birthday is coming up soon. We should make sure we're well-prepared. Especially since Yunfei has secured the contract, our family must make a good impression at the celebration," Zhao Juann said with enthusiasm.

"Yes, my wife is right. We'll present the contract at the banquet. Father is sure to be overjoyed," Cheng Ping concurred.

Cheng Ping wasn't one to chase after fame or fortune, but he still longed for Cheng Shaan's approval.

Securing the contract with Tiankang Pharmaceutical presented an excellent opportunity to do just that.

"We should also invest some thought into the gift. We can't afford to be outdone by the elder and middle branches of the family."

Cheng Shaan had three sons, and Cheng Ping was the youngest.

Cheng Jin's father, Cheng Yuan, was Cheng Shaan's eldest son.

Since Cheng Jin was the eldest grandson, their line had always been in favor. Cheng Shaan, now advanced in years, had taken a step back from the business, settling into semi-retirement.

Control of Cheng's Group lay primarily in the hands of Cheng Yuan and his son, Cheng Jin.

Cheng Shaan's middle son, Cheng Hai, had a daughter named Cheng Qian, who had studied abroad for several years. Upon her return, she took a position with a top-tier company and did not rejoin Cheng's Group.

As a result, Cheng Yunfei found herself the unwitting target of Chen Jing's displeasure.

If Cheng Yunfei were forced out, the future business of Cheng's Group would undoubtedly be his.

"We don't have any spare cash at the moment," Cheng Yunfei admitted with some difficulty. "Cheng Jin has held a key position within Cheng's Group for years, embezzling who knows how much. Every time he gives a gift to Grandpa, it's always the most expensive one. We can't compete with them when it comes to gifts."

"Grandpa is really losing it!" Zhao Juann complained with frustration. "Cheng Jin and his son are blatantly embezzling from the company. I refuse to believe Grandpa doesn't know. He simply chooses not to deal with it. It's blatant favoritism!"

"Ah, let's drop it. What's the point of going on about it?" Cheng Ping interjected, gesturing dismissively. He was clearly disheartened by the situation.

"Yunfei, I'll take care of the gift," Lin Sheng suddenly offered.

"You?" Cheng Yunfei, Zhao Juann, and Cheng Ping all turned to him in astonishment.

Lin Sheng had been acting quite unusually these past few days.

"What kind of gift are you thinking of preparing?" Cheng Yunfei asked, taken aback. She knew Lin Sheng was capable of doing chores, but when it came to having an eye for quality, she doubted he could pick out a decent gift.

After all, purchasing gifts costs money, and what their family was short on was not someone to do the shopping, but the funds to do so.

"I'll take a walk this afternoon and see what I come across. Whatever seems appropriate, I'll buy," Lin Sheng stated.

"Alright, Lin Sheng, this task is yours," Cheng Yunfei conceded.

Zhao Juann, somewhat out of character, agreed as well. "Just remember, the gift can't be too cheap. If you could find something worth two hundred thousand, that would be even better."

Cheng Yunfei and Cheng Ping, including Lin Sheng himself, now grasped Zhao Juann's intent. She was still fixated on the two hundred thousand yuan from Jiaang Haitao!

Her implication was clear: if Lin Sheng didn't have the funds to purchase a gift, he should reclaim that two hundred thousand yuan from Jiaang Haitao.

Lin Sheng simply nodded, offering no response. Given his wealth, buying a gift was a trivial matter. Whether it cost two hundred thousand, two million, or even twenty million yuan, it wouldn't cause him to bat an eyelid.

"Let's grab a bite here, so we won't have to cook when we get back."

Zhao Juann prompted, "We're not pressed for time anyway. Once we're done eating, Lin Sheng, you should go and get the gifts ready!"

Zhao Juann had asked Lin Sheng to request the two hundred thousand from Jiaang Haitao. Cheng Yunfei felt a twinge of displeasure, but she kept it to herself.

Truth be told, she longed for her grandfather's approval.

This time, with Lin Sheng's help, she had secured the Tiankang Pharmaceutical contract. With a more thoughtful gift from their family, they would surely bring great joy to the old man.

Her father was nearly healed, and there was a chance the elder might let him return to work with the family.

Being descendants of the Cheng family, Cheng Yunfei felt it was unjust to be treated unfairly. If her father rejoined the Cheng family, their status within the family would undoubtedly improve.

"Mm-hmm," Lin Sheng responded nonchalantly.

He was planning to go out and buy some medicinal herbs to concoct a few tonics for Cheng Ping, aiding his recovery.

Lin Sheng's recipes for tonics, sourced from ancient medical texts, were exceptionally effective.

Lin Sheng ordered a bowl of snail noodle soup and finished it quickly.

"Yunfei, I'm going to take a stroll. Make sure you stay safe on your way back," Lin Sheng told Cheng Yunfei. "Call me if you need anything."

Considering Cheng Ping was recently ill and both Cheng Yunfei and Zhao Juann were women, Lin Sheng was genuinely concerned.

If Zhao Juann hadn't been so insistent, he would have escorted them home himself.

With this in mind, Lin Sheng realized it was time to buy a car for added convenience.

"Okay," Cheng Yunfei nodded. "If you can't find the right one, don't worry about it. I'll figure something out tomorrow."

Lin Sheng felt a surge of warmth; Cheng Yunfei might appear aloof, but she truly cared about him.

"Don't worry, Yunfei. I'll definitely find the right gift."

With that, Lin Sheng turned and left the restaurant.

He hailed a taxi and directed, "Take me to Yellowstone Street!"

Yellowstone Street is the largest antique market in Huacheng, boasting a plethora of raw jade stones and vintage items.

Despite the market being rife with imitations and genuine articles being few and far between, Lin Sheng's keen eye made it quite easy for him to snag some quality finds at bargain prices for gifts.

Even though he was wealthy, he preferred not to dip into his funds unless absolutely necessary.

After all, if Cheng Yunfei inquired about the origins of his money, he would be at a loss for words.

Regarding his true family background, Lin Sheng wasn't ready to disclose that to Cheng Yunfei just yet. He'd wait for the right moment to let her in on the secret.

"Is this car occupied?"

Upon approaching, Lin Sheng noticed a young woman seated in the back.

The woman was strikingly attractive, scantily clad, her stunning figure on full display.

Lin Sheng's brow furrowed in disapproval. The car was clearly not empty, yet the driver had the audacity to display an 'available' sign. Wasn't that deceptive?

It seemed that these days, drivers would forsake all scruples just to make an extra buck.

"Hey, handsome, heading to Yellowstone Street too?"

The woman's inviting voice reached him as she scooted over, her lips pursed in a playful pout. "I'm off to Yellowstone Street as well. Why not share the ride? Don't be so tight-fisted!"
