C11 You Were Slapped in the Face yet You Still Felt Wronged
Shi Qing smiled, "Isn't it fair to say 'first come, first served'? My friend likes this necklace too, and I'm about to buy it. There's no truth to Miss Soong's claim of taking what someone else loves."
Hearing that she intended to buy it, Lu Sinian couldn't hold back his surprise. He asked, "Do you really have the money for this?" After all, over the years, he had only been sending her a regular monthly allowance, certainly not enough to drop a million dollars on a necklace.
Qiao Jing, who had been silent until now, couldn't help but snap back at him, having long been annoyed by this guy. "Who do you think you're looking down on? You think you're the only one with money, Mr. Lu?"
Soong Wanwan wasn't sure if Shi Qing was bluffing, as Shi Qing's confident demeanor suggested she could indeed pull out a million dollars at any moment. This thought only fueled Wanwan's competitive spirit. If Shi Qing could really produce that much money, it would mean Lu Sinian must have given her a substantial amount during their divorce.
"Miss Shi, we all know each other well enough. There's no need to put on a show," Soong Wanwan implied, suggesting Shi Qing was just pretending to be wealthy.
Shi Qing found it amusing. "It's just a necklace; no need to put on airs." She then turned to the sales associate, "I remember you have a beautiful ruby necklace. Could you bring it over?"
Though puzzled, the sales associate promptly complied, quickly returning with another dazzling ruby necklace.
Shi Qing glanced at the necklace and then at Wanwan. "I happen to know this store carries a ruby necklace worth $15 million, which I think suits Miss Soong better. I was planning to buy a gift for a friend today, but if you really like the $8 million one, I can let you have it since your birthday is coming up. I'll just buy the ruby one for my friend. Please, Miss Soong, make your choice."
The room fell silent, and Qiao Jing silently cheered.
If Wanwan chose the yellow diamond necklace, Shi Qing buying the ruby would make those snobby people eat their words. On the other hand, if Wanwan picked the ruby, she'd be getting a raw deal because anyone could tell it wasn't worth that much. Otherwise, Shi Qing would have already snapped it up.
Wanwan was clearly put on the spot. She hadn't expected Lu Sinian to buy her something so expensive. "Sinian, which one do you think suits me?" she asked, unsure.
"Either one," Lu Sinian replied, indifferent to her choice but curious if Shi Qing would really purchase one.
Hearing this, Wanwan hesitated before ultimately deciding to be the sucker and chose the ruby.
"Miss Soong has good taste," Shi Qing said, handing her card to the sales associate. "Please wrap up the other one for me."
Watching Shi Qing casually hand over her card, both Lu Sinian and Wanwan were surprised. They hadn't expected her to so effortlessly buy a necklace worth millions.
The sales associate was practically ready to kneel in gratitude, having sold two items in one day, ensuring a worry-free year.
"Thank you, Miss Shi!" she said, then turned to Wanwan. "Will you be paying by card as well, Miss Soong?"
Wanwan glanced at Sinian. This amount was nothing to him, but she felt the most awkward in the room.
The sales associate carefully wrapped both items, handing one to Shi Qing. "Miss Shi, your points have been added to your membership card." Then, smiling, she asked Wanwan, "Miss Soong, you're not a member yet. Would you like to sign up?"
Qiao Jing nearly burst out laughing. The sales associate certainly knew how to draw a comparison.
Wanwan knew that membership here required spending at least two million dollars. She was surprised Shi Qing was a member, and the comparison left her feeling embarrassed. She politely declined.
As they were leaving, Wanwan made a courteous gesture. "Miss Shi, do come to my birthday party tomorrow. It's my first one since returning to the country."
She didn't expect Shi Qing to agree, but she did so naturally.
"Sure, since you invited me, I must honor you with my presence," Shi Qing replied, then left with Qiao Jing.
On the way back, Qiao Jing kept teasing Wanwan about how awkward she looked earlier. Shi Qing just smiled calmly, noting how generous Sinian was with his old flame.
"But why did you agree to go to the birthday party? She's definitely up to something," Qiao Jing remarked.
Shi Qing responded dismissively, "I just don't want her bothering me all the time. I'm planning to ask Gu Chengxi for a favor."
"You mean your handsome neighbor?"
Shi Qing nodded, and when he brought it up to Gu Chengxi later, he readily agreed.
