C4 Do You Really Want to Pick a Day to Hit Me?
Lu Sinian leaned back in his chair, watching her leave with the same determination as last night. He couldn't help but chuckle at the thought. Did Shi Qing really mean it when she said she'd love him forever? Otherwise, why was she so resolute now?
Shi Qing returned to her apartment to pack. As soon as she walked in, she saw a crowd in the living room. Besides Guirong and Lu Xin, there was the one person she least wanted to see—Soong Wanwan.
"Well, where have you been off to? Haven't seen you all morning," Guirong remarked with her usual sarcasm as Shi Qing entered.
Shi Qing didn't get upset. She glanced at Soong Wanwan and headed upstairs to pack. She didn't have much; one suitcase was enough. After packing, she placed the card Lu Sinian had given her on the nightstand and carried her things downstairs.
As soon as the people in the living room saw her with the suitcase, Lu Xin couldn't hold back. "Running away from home? Who do you think cares?"
Ignoring the taunts, Shi Qing set down her suitcase and walked over to Soong Wanwan. She studied her closely. Apart from a beauty mark, they didn't look much alike. Soong Wanwan had a delicate charm, while Shi Qing had an enchanting allure.
Soong Wanwan smiled politely and extended her hand. "Nice to meet you. I'm Soong Wanwan. Sinian has mentioned you."
Shi Qing's smile was gentle, but her expression was anything but friendly. She had a long memory for grudges.
“Meeting you doesn’t exactly thrill me.”
Hearing this, Soong Wanwan awkwardly withdrew her hand, her face apologetic. “I’m sorry, you must really dislike me. I honestly didn’t expect that my return would cause a rift between you and Sinian.” Her eyes seemed to glisten with unshed tears.
Shi Qing chuckled softly. “It’s fine. There are plenty of things you didn’t expect, like the fact that we not only argued but also got divorced.”
This revelation hit everyone in the living room like a bolt from the blue.
Shi Qing found their barely concealed glee amusing. If they had tails, they’d probably be wagging them right now.
The first to recover was Lu Xin. She stood up slowly, arms crossed, looking at Shi Qing with disdain. “My brother dropped you so quickly? Not surprising, now that Wanwan’s back, what use are you?”
“Well, I hate to disappoint you, but the divorce was my idea.”
This statement caused another wave of shock. Everyone knew Shi Qing was often accused of being a gold digger, so it was hard to believe she’d let go so easily.
Lu Xin continued to mock her. “Oh, keep pretending. Or did Sinian give you a big payout? If that’s the case, it makes sense. After all, you’re no different from those who sell themselves. Just pay up, right?” She finished with a laugh, covering her mouth.
The servants exchanged uneasy glances, some even feeling a twinge of sympathy for Shi Qing. They knew better than anyone what her life had been like these past three years.
Shi Qing narrowed her eyes, a dangerous glint flashing in them. Before anyone could react, she darted forward and slapped Lu Xin without hesitation.
The sharp sound of the slap snapped everyone back to reality.
Lu Xin clutched her face, eyes wide with disbelief. "You dared to hit me!"
"Of course, I hit you. Why wait for a special occasion?" Shi Qing retorted, brushing her hands off with disdain, finally releasing the pent-up frustration she'd been holding onto.
It was the first time they had seen Shi Qing lose her temper, and everyone gasped.
Zhou Guirong quickly gathered her daughter into her arms, shouting angrily, "Shi Qing! How dare you?!"
"Why wouldn't I dare? What, do you want a taste of it too?" Shi Qing shot back coldly, her gaze fixed on Zhou Guirong. If it weren't for her age, Shi Qing might not have held back. "If you can't raise your children properly, don't blame others for stepping in."
Shi Qing was done hiding. She turned to Soong Wanwan, "Congratulations on taking the spot I no longer want."
With that, she picked up her suitcase and left.
Shi Qing felt a wave of relief wash over her. She realized how much she had changed over the past three years, but from now on, she vowed never to let anyone push her around again.
