C9 The Main Thing Was That She Was a Little Bit too Much to Scold
The trending topic quickly faded, which only piqued more people's interest, including Wanwan's. She watched the video taken last night on her phone. It was hard to believe that the company behind Shi Qing, who had been out of the spotlight for three years, would still care so much about her. Could it be Sinian's doing?
The thought made Wanwan uneasy. She used to be so sure that Sinian only had eyes for her. But after three years, could his feelings have changed? Last night, she lied about being drunk so Sinian would come to pick her up. He did come, but only to give her a ride. Even when she pretended to be drunk and tried to kiss him, he dodged her.
Wanwan had never considered Shi Qing a rival, but Sinian's cold reaction was nothing like the boy who once adored her. The video she had meticulously planned didn't have the impact she expected. It seemed she had underestimated Shi Qing.
Wanwan quickly posted on social media, explaining to her followers that it was all a misunderstanding and tagged Shi Qing. This made her fans think she was incredibly kind, which only painted Shi Qing in a worse light. The comments praising her while criticizing Shi Qing gave Wanwan a sense of accomplishment. She relished the feeling, especially since the criticism was directed at someone she disliked.
Just then, a notification popped up. Shi Qing had tagged her in a post. "There's no misunderstanding between Miss Soong and me. It's true that I made her cry, and as for the reason..."
Shi Qing initially had no intention of dealing with Wanwan, but when she shamelessly approached, Shi Qing decided to play along for the sake of the act.
A simple ellipsis sparked even more curiosity among online spectators, and within an afternoon, some people switched sides to support Shi Qing. Perhaps they already disliked Wanwan, or maybe they were swayed by an account claiming to be “staff” who said Wanwan had a bad temper and couldn’t possibly be as passive as she appeared in the video. Others might have simply appreciated Shi Qing's straightforwardness.
Suddenly, an invisible online battle erupted.
Shi Qing's social media was flooded with people asking for the real story. After spending the entire afternoon surfing the web, she found it a bit dull and decided to give an answer to calm the heated crowd.
“There’s no special reason; she just seemed like she needed a good talking-to.”
After posting this, Shi Qing tossed her phone aside, changed into workout clothes, and went for a walk. As she reached the door, some new furniture she had ordered arrived.
She walked over to the truck where the movers were systematically unloading items. Suddenly, a box became unstable and toppled over. Shi Qing didn’t have time to react, but in a split second, someone dashed forward and shielded her.
The expected pain never came. She slowly opened her eyes to see a tall, handsome guy who had taken the hit from the falling box for her.
The workers quickly rushed over to steady the box.
Shi Qing hurriedly asked the man, "Are you okay?"
The man shook his head with a smile. "It's nothing heavy, didn't hurt at all. Are you new to the neighborhood?"
"No, I just haven't been back here in years. Thanks for your help earlier." She thanked him politely.
"No problem at all. I'm Gu Chengxi, just moved here. Looks like we'll be neighbors, so let's look out for each other."
Gu Chengxi's smile was bright and full of youthful energy.
Shi Qing extended her hand. "Nice to meet you, I'm Shi Qing."
Gu Chengxi shook her hand, as if something just occurred to him. "You look really familiar."
Even though it sounded like a pickup line, Gu Chengxi's words didn't come off as annoying. Still, Shi Qing teased, "Is it because I have one of those faces?"
"No, no! You're really beautiful, not ordinary at all." He replied quickly and sincerely.
Shi Qing found it amusing. "Well, thank you. Let's chat more another time." She gave a warm smile and then walked away.
