C3 The Mysterious Vision

“What happened, sweetheart?” Eric asked curiously as Elena moved away and rose to her feet. He looked at her anxiously and getting up he placed his palm onto her shoulder. “Is there anything that’s bothering you?”

“It’s nothing,” she said causally and began to stare into space blankly.

Eric turned her towards him while her gaze was lowered. He placed his palm on her chin affectionately and moved her head up.

“My dear wifey. Enlighten me with reason of your worry, and I swear that I will do whatever that’s in my power to bring a smile back onto your face,”

Elena remained silent for a few seconds and then moved her lips slowly,

“There is something I have been meaning to ask you, Eric.”

“And what is that?’

“Um. When we were battling those werewolves in the Forest of Lean, you saw your friend Jake die beneath the bloody claws of that beast, yet, you preferred to prevent that white werewolf from reaching that huge boulder. May I ask why?”

At her question, Eric’s affection and tenderness took the form of utmost sheepishness and his eyes went down and he slightly turned his posture away from his lady love.

“Well, I have my reasons for that decision, Elena. And they are strong enough to justify the actions that I took at that point,”

“I would like to know what those reasons were, Eric. I want to know your heart and soul thoroughly.”

“Just know that the boulder that beastly bastard was going to move is a holy site for us vampires. And it is our life’s duty to protect it from all enemies!”

“What lies beneath that holy stone, Eric? Tell me,” Elena insisted, placing her palm on his shoulder but her moved it with subtle harshness.

“You will get all your answers when the time is right, Elena. But for now, do not ask me any questions and please do not expect any answers. The sun’s about to come up and we have college tomorrow and I am quite exhausted due to the battle with those disgusting creatures. I am going to my coffin for some rest, please excuse me.”

Saying that, the mysterious vampire marched towards the room where Elena had woken up in and closed it tightly behind him, leaving the newly turned vampire into deep thoughts filled with curiosity, skepticism and worry.

What exactly was the thousand-year-old vampire husband of hers trying to hide from her?

The sun had risen across the enchanting light blue horizon and was spreading its dazzling light across the students’ faces, as they made their way across their respective classes from the college ground.

Elena was walking quite slowly across the lobby and feeling rather lonely. Her close friends had been killed and there was no one really left for her to speak to closely. Therefore, she merely placed her books inside her locker and was about to turn when her head collided against a blond-haired girl’s and the girl’s book fell onto the floor.

“Ouch!” the girl flinched and began to rub her forehead quite vigorously.

“Oh I am so sorry!” Elena apologized as she bent down to help her get her books.

“It’s alright, it was my mistake. Was lost in my own stupid world. I should rather thank you for bringing me back to reality and making me realise that the dream world do nothing but hurt,” she expressed and let out a brief chuckle.

The girl was slightly taller than Elena and possessed brilliant navy blue eyes behind a pair of nerdy round spectacles. Her blond hair was tied into a long braid that reached her waist. She was quite attractive for a nerd with a slim face and fleshy reddish lips and a small cute nose.

“I am Zinaida, by the way,” she introduced herself as she extended her arms towards Elena who shook it with a casual smile.

“Elena, Elena Darl,”

“Interesting name you got there,” she remarked with her eyebrows raised.

“Thanks,”

“Well I am in freshmen year, and quite nervous. I hope the seniors here don’t rag or anything,” she said with a nervous smile.

“Don’t worry, nobody will do anything to you here,” Elena said in a cold tone completely unlike her original herself. Since becoming a vampire, she had lost most of her warmth and jovial nature and her heart seemed to have become icy. The only warmth she felt was during those intimate moments that she spent with Eric in his mansion.

Zinaida gave her another nervous smile and with a quick ‘thanks’ she left.

The moment Elena was about to enter History class, she noticed Eric walking from the opposite end with a stern expression on his face. The moment their eyes met, Elena waved at him but he ignored her like she were part of the wall and walked away. With a confused and irritated expression on her face, Elena entered the classroom.

“Who was Thor?” asked Mr. Jacob, the History teacher, as he paced back and forth between the class benches. Mr. Jacob was a short and plump middle-aged man who was on the verge of balding with grey hair protruding from the back of his head. One of the students raised his hand and said,

“Thor was the god of thunder in Norse mythology and one of the most fierce and strong kings of the Norse kingdom called Asgard,” he answered and received an emotionless round of applause from the students who were clearly bored by the mundane lecture.

Suddenly at the name of Thor, a blurred vision flashed across Elena’s mind wherein she noticed a tall, muscular man holding what vaguely looked like a hammer raised in the air. Following that vision, a number of other vague images flashed across her head like her mind seemed to be a badly tuned television. The vision lasted for a few seconds and then seemed to have been sucked into the vacuum....what was happening to Elena?
