The weather got colder and colder. Lu Qing had already put on the cotton clothes for Han Shuo and wrapped herself tightly.

It was still only August, and the cold wind was already bone-chilling. When they reached the Yumen Entrance Pass, it would probably be winter already, and they didn't know if they could make it through it.

Fortunately, Han Shuo had been well-fed for the past half year and had been doing exercises with her everyday. Now that he was cold, he had never had a cold.

Soong Lan's baby had a few days of low fever. Thanks to Liu San'er, she went around looking for medicine for her, but fortunately, she survived.

Although this group of military men was somewhat crude, they weren't bad people.

However, Widow Wang had been very obedient recently and didn't mock Lu Qing anymore. Of course, this had a lot to do with Lu Qing's frequent reference to her escape and the fact that she was no longer in a carriage with Widow Wang.

What made Lu Qing most curious was that even though Wang Qiang had slept soundly, she did not encounter any of the soldiers along the way. This was too unexpected.

The further northwest they went, the more desolate the place became. When they arrived at another predetermined rendezvous point, they waited for a full three days, but no one came.

Instead, they killed two bandits.

Looking at the bodies of the two short and stocky men, Lu Qing's heart turned cold by half when she realized that they were from Huns Clan.

Xue Yan frowned. He stopped looking for a village to set up camp and brought everyone into a dense forest. After cleaning up a patch of weeds and shrubs, he told everyone to try their best not to make any noise and not to start a fire.

After eating some cold and hard pastries, Lu Qing hugged Han Shuo and fell asleep early.

In the middle of the night, Han Shuo woke up for the first time.

"Mom, I smell meat. Is it barbecue!?"

Lu Qing got up and took a careful sniff. It did smell of meat.

Could it be that those soldiers had secretly lit a fire to roast some game?

After sucking on his saliva, Han Shuo lay back down on the straw mat. His eyes were wide open and full of light, as if the barbecue was right in front of his eyes.

Lu Qing didn't know whether to laugh or cry. She told Han Shuo to obediently lie down. She went to take a look, and if it really was roasted, she would tear a piece for him to eat.

Han Shuo instantly beamed as he hugged Lu Qing and kissed her.

Lu Qing quietly followed the scent and snuck through the forest. However, she soon stopped moving forward.

Not only was there the fragrance of the meat, there was also the sound of someone screaming.

The weeping of women, the laughter of men.

Lu Qing was sure that this group of people was not the same as hers. There were too many people over there. There were even people shouting languages that she did not understand.

But she didn't need to understand. She just needed to listen to the sobbing to know what they were doing.

Lu Qing gritted her teeth and clenched her nails into her palms. However, she didn't feel any pain at all.

In the end, she still met him.

In the dense broad-leaved forest, the leaves had almost fallen down. Through the gaps in the trees, one could faintly see the scene at the edge of the forest.

It was hell on earth.

It wasn't the sheep that was roasting on the shelf, it was the people.

There were corpses lying around the shelves. Their stomachs were all cut open and blood was all over the floor. There were also two women who were surrounded by a group of Hu people. They cried and wailed, but it only caused them to laugh out loud.

Beside the grill, a tall man was rotating the female corpse on the stick. From time to time, he would tear off a piece to try the taste.

A big hand suddenly covered Lu Qing's mouth. Lu Qing struggled desperately to see the familiar face. Her eyes were bloodshot and her hands were covered in the same bloody smell.

"Ahh!

A scream sounded out in the forest. The group of people who were 'barbecuing' looked over.
