C11 Don't Entangle Me

It was said that the old lady had pampered Mo Jingyao the most, especially when he was nothing but a young little boy. Yu Se hid behind her round figure. It was best to be on good terms with the matron. At least then, she wouldn't be openly bullied by anyone from the Mo Family in the future. A slow smile spread across her features as she greeted the old woman.

"Hmph!" Someone sneered beside her. "And who gave you the right to look for my mother?"

"Jingxi, what are you even saying?" Shooting her a glare, the old lady turned her gaze towards Yu Se and reached out to hold her hand. "Look, I didn't know what had happened in the mountains that day until it was too late. I've wronged you...I truly am sorry that things had come to this. If I had just been more attentive, perhaps, both of you wouldn't have to go through such extensive means to prove yourself."

"I'm fine. Really, you shouldn't worry," Yu Se comforted her. Her nose twitched, and a bundle of emotions swelled up in her chest. Although she didn't know if the old lady meant what she said, at least she was the first one to apologize for their wrongdoings. 'Definitely did better than my own family,' she thought bitterly, before turning her head to the grand staircase. "How is he?"

"He isn't well." She sighed. "Ever since he was born, he had always been quite a loner–from playing alone to recuperating alone. But this week had definitely opened a new door for him, and to just lie there–it must be so lonely for him, even if he was in a coma. Could you keep him company even if just for a while? Maybe he'd gradually get better with your presence."

Knowing that she couldn't refuse her, she nodded. "Alright."

"I'll go with you." Upon hearing what they were about to do, Yu Mo quickly stepped in and was about to lead her sister to Mo Jingyao's bedroom. The man was hers, to begin with, and after what she had gone through to take him, she wasn't going to allow Yu Se to spend even a second alone with him. Her fingernails dug into her palm as she gritted her teeth into a forced smile.

Mo Jingyao was a man of wealth and looks, and she had liked him the very moment she met him. There was no way she was letting him go that easily.

"No!" The old lady growled in disapproval. "Haven't you heard what the doctor said? Jingyao shouldn't have too many visitors in the bedroom, else his symptoms might worsen. It's enough that Yu Se's heading up, isn't it? Just stay there eat your fruits. Dinner will be served in a bit."

This was the first time she had ever been spoken to this way, but it wasn't as if she could do anything about it. Yu Mo plopped ungracefully back onto her seat with a scowl on her face. "Fine," she stated, like a spoiled child who didn't get the gift she wanted. Even then, the servants had paid no heed to her shallow tantrums. Instead, their focus was trained on Yu Se.

"Nanny Zhang, lead her to the Young Master's bedroom." Yu Se followed one of the servants up the top floor.

As the servant pushed the door open, she was immediately attacked by the smell of alcohol and disinfectant. It was like entering the hospital, just without the sight of hospital beds and doctors. Scrunching her nose, she stepped into the room. It was obvious that the man staying here had been sick for a long time. She waved her hands around her and slowly walked forward.

"If there's anything else you need, just ring the bell," the young woman bowed her head. "We'll be there whenever you need us."

Her gaze fell on the pale man lying on the bed. Although he was still handsome, Yu Se could see the bags engraved under his eyes and the fatigue that coated his cheeks. The man had lost a bit of muscle mass from the last time she had seen him, and from the way his face was scrunched up, his sleep may not as be as peaceful as she had initially thought.

However, that still didn't stop him from looking noble and regal.

"Nanny Zhang," she said, remembering her name. "You were the one who hung up on me when I called over regarding Jingyao's health, weren't you? I recognized your voice from the phone call."

Her body trembled, and she lowered her head as if she had just been struck. "I really didn't expect that the Young Master was alive that day," she apologized repeatedly. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry..."

Yu Se waved her hand dismissively. "It's alright. To be honest, I really didn't blame you for what had happened that day." She laughed. Even she didn't expect that the man would live. After seeing him so pale and distraught, she thought that they were done for good. After all, who would've thought that the acupuncture technique she had learned was able to bring him back to life? "Besides, I guess now you'll have to pay me back by supplying all my necessities around here."

"It's really no trouble at all! Whatever you need, don't hesitate to tell me." Nanny Zhang was so terrified that her legs were about to give out. If Luo Wanyi and the old lady found out that she was the one who hung up on that phone call the other day and delayed the rescue of their young master, her days would come to an end. Her face turned sheet white, and her lips turned into a subtle shade of blue.

"You can go now," she instructed, and the older woman scurried out of her sight.

Although Nanny Zhang couldn't be trusted, Yu Se already had a hold on her. As long as she kept it close to her fists, then one of the helpers here was on her side. She wouldn't be too rash as to obey anyone else.

At Nanny Zhang's exit, the bedroom had turned silent. She took this time to sit by the edge of the bed, staring at the man who had once been hers.

Back when she had left him in the hospital, Yu Se wanted nothing to do with him, and now that she was back here all over again, she couldn't help but feel conflicted as to what to do. "Mo Jingyao," she murmured under her breath as she took a good look at his pale face. Even the sight of his angled features made her heart thump in her chest, and she couldn't figure out why.

In the past, they were two people from two different worlds, whose paths were never meant to meet. But now, it seemed that their lives had grown entangled for the worse.

Her fingertips glided across his face. Although his skin was cold, the burning sensation she felt back at the tomb had returned in full force.

"Mo Jingyao," she said, trying to keep her voice from trembling. "Now that Yu Mo's your fiancé, I can only be here as your doctor. Once you've woken up, my work is done here. I don't care if you can hear me or not, but I'm already telling you as it is–you better not cause me any troubles in the future, you got that?"

Every time she was with him, she couldn't help but be reminded of the first time they had met. Yu Se shuddered at the image.

He could be the most good-looking man on earth, but he still wouldn't be able to wipe the uneasiness in her heart–that was for sure.
