C15 Our Fates Intertwined

"Nanny Zhang has been working for us for quite a long time," Luo Wanyi said as an afterthought before nodding in agreement. If there was anyone in her staff that she'd place her trust on to treat her son, it would be her. "It would be reasonable if she was the one to be assigned additional responsibilities instead of anyone else. You make a good point."

"By giving her extra responsibilities, it would be harder for her to juggle it around with her previous duties," Yu Se added, glancing at the maid's direction. "Maybe it's best that you provide a little bit of incentive."

As soon as Luo Wanyi heard her suggestion, she didn't even hesitate to call in the butler. Not even bothering to look at him, she ordered, "Nanny Zhang's salary would be raised to twenty thousand this month. There's no need to deduct it from the family expenses. I can shoulder the bill. Do you understand?"

The butler nodded in confirmation before stepping back to the corner of the room as if nothing had happened. On the other side, Nanny Zhang was almost jumping with joy as soon as she heard the news. She immediately glanced in Yu Se's direction. After years of waiting for her increase in salary, she had seen this girl do it in mere seconds! Her cheeks were flushed with excitement.

In the future, she would do her best to help Yu Se out. After all, it seemed that they were already on the same boat.

Seeing that their discussion was over, the old lady clasped her hands together. "It's already time for dinner," she called out and motioned them out of her grandson's quarters. "Little Yu Se can sit next to Wanyi, unless you have anything else you want to talk about here?"

"There's no need. I've said what I needed to say."

Yu Se bit her lips. In reality, she still didn't like Luo Wanyi, especially after what the woman had done to her. The dirt and gravel that had embraced her skin were still fresh in her mind, and she could feel them creeping up to her skin like a bunch of fire ants. She shivered at the thought. However, she saw how powerful this woman was in the Mo Family. As long as they remained on good terms, no one would dare bully her here. It was better this way.

As soon as she reached the dining table, she finally realized what it meant when they say to 'eat like the rich'. There were so many dishes placed across the rectangular table. From scallops to crab, to even a swordfish, these were the types of dishes that she had only seen in pictures back at home. Every dish was meant to be relished, and from the smell alone, she could tell that they were all delicious.

However, she couldn't eat that much. After the performance of the Nine Yin Sutra, she had injured her intestines, and as such, she didn't really have much of an appetite.

That was why she only picked a few meat before calling it a day.

The same, however, couldn't be said for Yu Mo. Her older sister looked like she hadn't eaten in days with the way she had stuffed her head down the various dishes. As her right hand scooped the bowl of rice right beside her, Yu Se couldn't help but wrinkle her nose in distaste. Although they didn't come from a rich family nor did they have any noble lineage, her sister should've still shown some class.

Glancing up, she could see that the other family members felt the same way.

"I should get going," she later said, putting her chopsticks down and standing up. Besides, she still had to study for her finals in the library, and there were still a few assignments that she needed to get to. She bowed at the old lady then at Luo Wanyi as she grabbed her backpack. "I'll be seeing you again in a few days. Thank you for the dinner."

However, before she could return to school, she decided to visit Mo Jingyao's bedroom to check up on him.

Nanny Zhang worked fast, she noticed. There was not a fabric belonging to Yu Mo that was left behind, not even a strand of hair! And as she looked around, she could see that all the necessities had been completely replaced. Yu Se peered through the bathroom to see that there was an extra set that they've left out just for her. "Hm," she hummed to herself.

They were really thorough with their job.

Once she had surveyed the room, she slowly walked up to his bedside and held his hand. "I'll be heading back to school now, okay?" She stared at his pale face. "You should wake up sooner."

He needed to, if she really wanted to get out of their sight.

As she spoke, she picked up the necklace from his neck, placing it on top of her birthmark. "Really," she mused, lowering her voice. "Who would've thought that your necklace and my birthmark would match? Don't worry, it doesn't really mean anything–it's probably all just a coincidence. Whether or not it's fated for us to meet, it's still fated for us to continue with our lives. That–I very much agree on."

The jade slowly touched her arm, and the cold feeling slithered across her nerves.

Suddenly, something gold flashed right before her eyes.

Yu Se froze for a moment. This time, instead of pictures, countless words poured into her every inch of her mind. It was like being hit with a tidal wave. The warm feeling had returned to her skin in full force, and she couldn't help but stumble back onto the bed. She wasn't surprised that this had happened. After all, it had occurred back at the coffin. She just didn't expect that every time the jade and birthmark would connect, she'd actually learn something new.

However, it seemed that the information that she had gathered only confirmed her thoughts. The Nine Meridians Eight Veins Method was the only technique that could save him.

She pulled away. It seemed that she was going to have to practice this technique at school as well, not just to heal her body, but to wake him up.

After shoving the jade back under his collar, she picked up her books and stepped towards the door.

What Yu Se didn't notice was that the man behind her had suddenly moved his finger. As the seconds passed, his eyes slowly opened, revealing a shade as dark as the lagoons by the north. He glanced at her slender back as if he was piercing through her very soul before closing them again. It was as if nothing out of the ordinary had just occurred.

She turned the handle, only to narrow her eyes.

"What the hell?"

No matter how hard she tried, the door still wouldn't open!

It was locked on the outside!

"Hello? Open the door!" Yu Se slammed her fists on the door, and she gritted her teeth. Her fingernails clawed against the surface like a wild animal, but no matter how much she screamed, it was still to no avail. "Open the door!"

"Aren't you afraid she'd hurt him?" Mo Jingxi furrowed her eyebrows in worry, wincing at the woman's harsh language.

"If she really intended to kill your brother, he still should've been in the coffin." With that, Luo Wanyi shot her daughter a warning look. "You aren't allowed to open the door and let her out. Otherwise, those one million yuan you were talking about earlier? You can kiss those bills goodbye. Do you understand me?" Satisfied at Mo Jingxi's sagging shoulders, she turned and walked away.

No matter how loud she screamed, there was still no response. Giving up, Yu Se turned around and picked up the phone in Mo Jingyao's bedroom, before dialing the internal line connected to Mo Residence.

Nanny Zhang was the one who picked up. "Miss Yu, Madame was the one who had locked you in there. She said that you aren't allowed to leave the premises tonight and that you should work on the Young Master," she hesitated before telling her all about it. "There's really nothing else we could do. Please forgive us."

Yu Se fell limply on the floor. 'Nothing they could do?' It had taken her a few moments before she had registered what was happening.

She was stuck in a room with Mo Jingyao with just one bed...they were supposed to spend the night together.
