C4 Two Calls
If possible, Yu Se's sheet white face had turned even paler by the second. The beeps echoed into her eardrums, as she glanced at the phone a few times. wanting to see if they had really hung up. Immediately, she brought her fingers up to dial the number again. This time, no one had replied to her.
It was as if the servants had purposely ignored all her calls, like she was some sort of nuisance that they wanted to get rid of. No matter how frustrated she was, she couldn't really blame them.
After all, the Mo's had been so positive that Mo Jingyao had passed away. It was either that, or Luo Wanyi had warned them otherwise. At the thought of the older woman stampeding on her plans, the hold she had on her phone tightened even more. "God, she's going to get it now," she murmured under her breath. If the Mo Household was going to abandon her, then she was going to have to go through other means of getting their attention.
"What's wrong? Is your family not responding to your calls?" The old man peeked from the counter, tilting his head in concern. "Are you okay? Maybe it's best if you rest here first."
"It's fine, thank you." Yu Se first placed his unconscious body on the old man's bed, watching as the cushions swallowed him up like a long lost friend. Wiping the sweat that was trailing down her forehead, she sighed. "Someone will be coming to pick us up soon. I'll give it a couple of minutes, at least."
Within a few seconds of her placing him down, she could see him twitching a little–as if his own body was subconsciously protesting from the change of surface.
Although they had been stuck under the dirt for a while, it was obvious that Mo Jingyao was a man of cleanliness. Knowing him, if he had been awake during this time, he wouldn't be pleased to be placed on such a dirty bed nor would he be any happier if he realized how dirty he was after being dug out from the dirt.
Yu Se shook her head, not bothering with him any longer. "Besides, if it wasn't for him, I wouldn't have been in this position in the first place," she said and looked away.
With this, she made two more calls.
This time, to her relief, the line had responded, and they would be rushing in any second.
"Thank you again," she said gratefully as she returned the phone back to the old man. Once everything was settled, she sat beside Mo Jingyao's lying body and closed her eyes, absorbing the peaceful atmosphere enclosed around them. It seemed that this would be the only few peaceful seconds she'd ever get in this lifetime.
Her body was gradually getting weaker as time had passed.
It seemed that she was starting to take the toll of utilizing the Nine Yin Sutra. The burning sensation in her veins felt as if she had just dipped into a bucket of acid, and she couldn't help but wince. It was a good thing that the old man's hut was nearby. Otherwise, they would've died from the hike and the cold.
"Miss, would you like a glass of water?" The old man glanced at her.
"There's no need. I just need a few moments to calm myself," Yu Se responded, still with her eyes closed. Her fingers circulated around her stomach, performing the Nine Meridians Eight Veins Method on herself. Although this process may not work immediately, it may be able to mitigate the damage she had sustained in her internal organs. That would have to do for now.
Twenty minutes later, a shrill sound echoed from the outside. The ambulance came driving past, and behind it was a police car. They had driven all the way up the mountains , and she could barely hear the gravel and stones being knocked over the dusty road. It was only upon hearing them did the man finally figure out who the woman had called to pick them up.
Immediately, Mo Jingyao was brought into the ambulance. "He's breathing, but his organs seem unstable," the emergency physician had yelled out before rushing into the back of the vehicle. "We have to get him to the hospital–stat!"
Yu Se, on the other hand, entered the police car for the interrogation.
Knowing that they were finally safe, her shoulders sagged in relief. The faux leather seat was definitely a nice change compared to the satin covers of their coffin. At the thought of being trapped there once again, she couldn't help but shiver. There was absolutely no way she'd willingly walk in there again.
"Name."
"Yu Se."
"Your companion?"
"Mo Jingyao."
"Mo Jing–you're talking about Mr. Mo Jingyao? The CEO of Mo's Group?" The policeman who had been writing down the statement immediately looked up. His eyes were as wide as saucers, and he stared at her as if she had just committed a murder. Upon glancing at the ambulance right in front of him, he mumbled to himself, "He really did look like him..."
Although the officer didn't get a better look at the man, he could recognize him from afar. The woman definitely made no mistakes in identifying him.
However, Yu Se simply shrugged in response. She wasn't in the mood for explanations.
"Since you've already called line 120, why do you have to report it to the police station? You know that randomly dialing 110 could get you detained," the policeman lectured her, looking at her every now and then. Despite the dirt and blood staining her features, he had to admit that she looked extremely beautiful. It was a pity that their police car was being monitored. Otherwise, he would've easily skidded off-topic.
Yu Se didn't even lift an eyelid, already exhausted from the day she had. "I didn't call the police by accident," she stated as a matter-of-fact. "I'll be suing Lady Luo Wanyi, Number 888, at Mid-Levels Villa District. I want her arrested."
The police officer had almost dropped the pen onto the carpet. Looking as if he had just snapped out of his reverie, he swerved up to look at her. "Ms. Luo Wanyi, one of the board members at Mo's? She's the one who you're talking about?" First was Mo Jingyao, next was Luo Wanyi, this lady was truly namedropping the two most powerful people in the city.
How could such a young girl sue her? Did she want to die?
Even the bureau chief at Mo's had to be polite to her? Wasn't the girl courting death?
"Yu Se, maybe you should think about it first," he reminded.
"I've already thought about it." Her eyes narrowed. "I'm accusing her for abandoning us."
The policeman glanced at the ambulance in front of him. "Wait, so you're saying that Mo Jingyao is the same man who had died in the car accident a few hours ago?" His gaze quickly averted to the ground. "That Mo Jingyao? You're serious?"
"Luo Wanyi had abandoned him before he died." Thinking about Luo Wanyi was enough to make Yu Se even more furious. And her phone call to the Mo Family was immediately hung up. It was as if they didn't care for what she had to say. If she wasn't able to break out of the tomb, then they would've both died in that coffin.
"I..." The police man fell silent.
At City First Hospital.
In the Advanced VIP Ward.
Doctors and nurses were rushing back and forth into the ward, trying to complete all their assignments as fast as they could. "Quick!" They murmured to themselves, holding the trays close to their chest. Panicked and anxious, they quickly readied all the vials that they had extracted from Mo Jingyao, as they proceeded to test it out for any anomalies.
Outside the ward were tens of curtains completely surrounding the hospital bed.
Not even a fly could get in.
Luo Wanyi came strutting down the corridor, furrowing her eyebrows. She had just been called to the hospital to fix some documents around a lawsuit. She glared at the first police officer she had seen. "You've called me?" Her cool voice echoed across the lobby. "I'd like to see who the hell had the nerve to sue me."
