C8 Fiancee

It was already nightfall when Yu Se had stepped out of the villa, so she decided to take a taxi to Qimei Middle School. The cool breeze brushed against the strands of her hair, and her pale face grew even paler under the shadows of the night. Her wrists twisted in annoyance as she sat at the backseat, gazing out of the window. She couldn't help but feel a little bit antsy, and the anger and indifference she had for her family still hadn't faded from her heart.

By the time she had arrived, the campus was quiet, and there wasn't a single student walking around. "Night classes must've started," she murmured and headed straight to her dormitory. Today had been long and exhausting, and it had definitely been filled with twists. For one, she certainly didn't expect that she'd fall right into a tomb, nor did she expect that she'd be able to claw her way right out. With a sigh, she shook her head, not wanting to think about it anymore. Just the thought of it was already giving her a headache.

Once she had already tidied up, she immediately checked out her phone. It seemed that her phone was already blowing up with many notifications, and all of them were directly related to Mo Jingyao coming back to life. The entire city was celebrating, and as she scrolled down, she saw distant pictures of him being taken to the hospital, and a few of them included interviews with distant professionals.

Although he had yet to awaken, it was still a miracle.

And it certainly didn't stop the thousands of girls in T City from infatuating after him.

As Yu Se scanned through the forums, she saw various pictures of Mo Jingyao when he was still alive. He had been part of numerous expansions of his business, and from what she had seen, everyone was enamored by all the things he had done and achieved. The man truly was an enigma. Her thumb hovered on the screen. Not only was he accomplished, but he was smart with it. It was obvious to see why so many people had fallen for him.

Shaking her head, she closed the window.

Why did she even care about the news? It wasn't as if she was his woman.

However, there was still another problem regarding her acupuncture techniques. Although Mo Jingyao had come back to life, he was still far from conscious, and it would be difficult to knock him out of that coma. Yu Se twisted her wrists, still remembering the stress she had undertaken in practicing such a technique. "Hm." she hummed to herself, glancing at her phone every now and then.

She had to master the Nine Meridians Eight Veins Method. If not, then, she'd have to find an expert who's more powerful for her.

Yang Anan, who had just woken up from the sudden noise, widened her eyes. "Do you know how scared I was?" She jumped from her bed and quickly hugged her, startling Yu Se from the force. "Your dad said he was already pulling you out, so I thought you were sick! Is there something wrong with you? Were you really sick? What happened? You know you can tell me anything right?"

"I'm fine." She laughed, getting onto the bed and telling her what had happened, leaving a few bits out. Yang Anan walked around the room a few more times as she continued to ask more questions, before shaking her head at the vagueness of her answers. "Really, don't I look like I'm fine? It was my birthday, so I just decided to take a break to enjoy the last year as a teen."

"Yeah, right." Yang Anan rolled her eyes, but she let it go. The two women had talked for a while, before falling asleep.

Yu Se proceeded to do her morning rituals as if it was just any other day. However, the moment she had entered the classroom, she noticed that some of her classmates had peered her way before whispering a few words to the student beside them. The word of her leaving the school must've gotten around, and she could sense the curiosity hidden behind their eyes. Shrugging, she went to her seat.

When Mr. Zhang saw her in the front seat, he immediately called her to the platform.

"Why were you absent yesterday?" He raised his eyebrows in concern. "Did something happen at home? Were you sick?"

It was obvious that the school didn't want her to leave, especially her homeroom teacher. After all, Yu Se's scores had always been part of the top ten, and she was practically one of the campus's pride and joy. And in two more months, she'd be taking her college entrance exam. To pull her out at such an important time would be devastating, and Mr. Zhang couldn't help but be concerned with her situation.

Yu Jing'an had called her that day to ask her to take a leave for her birthday. "Let me take you out to eat," he had said, and she believed him. After all, why wouldn't she?

Besides, her performance wouldn't be affected by just a day of absence.

It seemed that she was wrong.

"I'm fine. My dad thought I was sick, but it seemed that the hospital had made a mistake," Yu Se quickly came up with an excuse. She rubbed the back of her neck. She definitely wasn't going to tell him what had really happened when he had pulled her out of school. That night had already given her enough nightmares, and she wasn't looking for a recap. "But I'm fine now though."

"That's good." Mr. Zhang sighed in relief. "By the way, Director Luo from Mo's Group called over to find you. I said that you weren't at school. Did she try to contact you?"

"She's actually just looking for my dad," she replied. "They've already talked about it."

"Ah, that's strange," he murmured to himself, but he didn't bother asking for more information. "Go back to your seat. You have much to catch up to."

Yu Se nodded, returning to her seat.

She couldn't help but smile at the sight of her wooden desk, and the blackboard being displayed right in front of her. Yesterday, she had thought that her entire life was coming to an end, that she wouldn't be able to return to this place. And now, she couldn't help but be grateful with the fact that she was given a chance by the fates to continue. 'My life truly wasn't over to begin with,' she thought with a grin.

Once school had ended, Yang Anan pulled her to a claypot restaurant that was adjacent to the school gate. "Come on!" She huffed. "My favorite fish balls would be gone if you're taking this long."

The two ran to the restaurant, and by the time they've arrived, they quickly found a seat inside the crowded place. Just as they were beginning to become comfortable, a girl from one of their classes tapped Yu Se on the shoulder. "Hey Se," she greeted. "Is Yu Mo your sister?"

"No," she responded quickly.

"I don't even know why I'm asking you." The girl sighed exasperatedly as if talking to Yu Se was already giving her a headache. She rubbed her forehead, but the dreamy glint in her eyes still hadn't faded. "I don't even know why you won't just admit it. I mean, Yu Mo is the beauty of Qimei Middle School. Are you jealous of her? Is that why you don't recognize her as your sister?"

"Enough." Yu Se suppressed the urge to roll her eyes. The last thing today was her sister's name, not because she didn't want to be compared to Yu Mo's achievements, but because she knew what it meant to be 'related' to her. Her sister had always been one of the most popular students in school, and everybody wanted to get to her stature one way or another. If everyone were to know, her sister's shadow would forever be upon her–biting and cruel.

And she didn't want to be a ladder that people could just use.

Unaffected by her indifference, the student continued, "Didn't you watch the news? It's said Mo Jingyao chose Yu Mo as his fiance!"
