C8 I Know

It was evening, and we all four were sitting in the garden drinking tea. Mom had scolded Kevin so much. I knew this because Kevin wasn't looking at me and he didn't talk to me at all. I didn't make an effort to talk to him either. I knew when his anger would calm down, he would talk to me himself.

" Amy, I scolded Kevin. Now he won't disturb you." Mom said before sipping her tea.

I smiled at her and thanked her. Dad, who didn't know anything, looked at us with a confused face, but Kevin didn't even raise his head. I was wondering what Mom had said to him to cause him to act this way.

Later, at the dinner table, he was again like that. I was a little worried now, but then I also wanted to see how long he could go without speaking to me.

The next day, when I sat down in his car to go to college, he still didn't say anything. He was silent all the way from home to college, and it was really annoying.. After getting out of the car, just like always, I thanked him , but today he drove the car away without saying anything.

In the evening, when I came back from college, I immediately went to Mom's room. She was sitting on her bed, reading a cookbook. She wasn't interested in cooking at all; she never cooked anything, so why was she suddenly reading that book? I was curious.

I went near her and sat down on the bed in front of her, and instead of telling her why I was there, I asked her why she was reading a cooking book when she doesn't like cooking. She raised her head and said, "I'm learning how to make pancakes. Kevin is angry with me, so I'm trying to find a way to make him happy."

I laughed a little when I heard her. I wondered if, after eating her pancake, Kevin would be happy or get more angry. My mom knew why I was laughing, so she slapped me on my shoulder and told me not to laugh at her; she would try her best.

I didn't stop, and while laughing, I fell back on her bed. After I stopped laughing, I asked her just what she had said to Kevin that he was so angry. I told her that he didn't talk to me all the way to college and even yesterday he was ignoring me.

She took her hand near my head before caressing it and saying, "I told you he wouldn't bother you again, so he must just be doing that, not bothering you."

My heart sank upon hearing those words. Sometimes she really acted like a villain in melodrama. I held her hand in mine and told her that he doesn't bother me, but it's me who always bother him.

"But that's your right as a younger sister. You can trouble him as much as you want, but he can't. " Mom answered immediately.

" But what if I don't see him as my brother?" Those words just slipped out of my mouth, but I didn't regret it. I knew I needed to tell her the truth , so sooner was better than later.

" I know." She pressed my head with her hand before she got up from bed. I was all confused and shocked by her statement.

"Anyway, I learned the recipe for fried rice too. Do you want to eat it?" She asked as she put the book in her book rack and looked at me.

"Yeah, I will." I could eat anything now, no matter how it would taste.

"Wait. Maybe you don't understand what I meant. " I got up from the bed and walked towards her.

"I'm your mother. Wouldn't it be sad if I didn't understand what you meant?" She said this with a calm smile on her face.

" So, why aren't you upset with me? Why are you still so nice to me? " I was irritated by seeing her so calm.

"Maybe because I love you so much, or maybe because loving someone isn't wrong. " She said this and walked out of the room without letting me say anything else.

Although she said that, I was still wondering if she really understood what I meant. If I was in her place, I would have been shocked and even enraged, but here she was totally the opposite, looking all so calm.
