C10 Driver
Blood mixed with tears streamed down Liu Xue's face, painting a picture of utter despair. The staff members from the women's association exchanged bewildered glances, taken aback by the sudden intensity of Lim Fuqing's presence. This couple truly seemed made for each other—one could infuriate someone to death with words, while the other, without a partner by their side, was like a fierce tiger, ready to lash out at anyone.
Shen Shuling was quite pleased with the outcome. Lim Fuqing had come up with a rather cunning plan. He had someone write a message on a board, essentially clarifying that Liu Xue had intentionally spread rumors. Then, they punched a hole in it, tied a string through, and hung it around Liu Xue's neck, making her walk around the village, stopping at each house.
What? The villagers couldn't read? No problem. Lim Fuqing followed behind, explaining every word in detail. Liu Xue's mother watched, her face pale with anger, fists clenched and trembling with rage. Liu Xue's reputation was ruined, and she was unlikely to find a husband now.
With Shen Shuling satisfied, Lim Fuqing felt at ease. They brought porridge and food, arriving at the city hospital just in time for lunch. Young Lim Tianyang had only cried once in front of Shen Shuling in recent days; the rest of the time, he followed her around with red eyes, bravely enduring everything alongside her.
Upon seeing his uncle, tears instantly welled up and overflowed. Clinging to Lim Fuqing's leg, he sobbed uncontrollably, leaving Fuqing's pant leg soaked as if it had been in a puddle. Lim Shan awoke, catching sight of Fuqing, and his hands trembled with excitement. Shen Shuling stood nearby, sighing. Who would have thought? After facing a landslide, Fuqing had not only survived but returned safely. Moreover, it was said that the goods he brought back were all sold out. The crisis seemed to have passed—what a relief.
But why did her stomach still ache? Shuling's vision began to blur, and moments later, she fainted amid the shouts echoing through the hospital room. She was utterly exhausted; time-traveling was more tiring than working overtime. Just as Shuling fainted, an obstetrician happened to walk by and quickly assessed her condition. It was mainly due to overwork and malnutrition. The doctor, glasses perched on her nose, sternly scolded Fuqing for not taking proper care of his pregnant wife and letting her run around. Fuqing, a tall and robust man, stood there with tears welling in his eyes, not from the reprimand but from fear.
"Your wife was lucky to encounter me," the doctor said. "Do you realize this is a sign of a potential miscarriage? You could lose the baby."
"Such a handsome guy, how come you don't know how to take care of your wife?" The old doctor scolded before writing a prescription and leaving. Lim Fuqing, after tending to his father, continued to care for his wife.
During the night, when Shuling woke up, Fuqing's eyes were red, looking at her with a mix of worry and relief. "Honey, you've been through so much. Next time, before I leave, I'll make sure everything at home is taken care of."
Fuqing had never been so scared before, with his father sick and his wife unwell. It was all because of him, and if anything happened, he could never forgive himself.
Shuling nodded, acknowledging his words. "I'm hungry. I want some noodles."
Fuqing immediately ran out and soon returned with a bowl of noodles. After eating, Shuling's hand moved under the covers, resting on her belly. This was the first and last time she would let her baby be in danger. There wouldn't be a second time. She was determined to keep this child, to raise and love them with all her heart.
"Did you sell the leeks?" she asked drowsily.
"Yes, for eighty cents a pound. Made ten dollars," Fuqing replied.
Finally, Shuling fell asleep peacefully.
After a day in the hospital, her stomach no longer hurt, and she was allowed to get up and walk a bit. Lim Shan, having recovered from his fever, couldn't stand lying down anymore and often used getting water as an excuse to wander around.
Both of them were almost fully recovered, so the family was getting ready to head home. Unexpectedly, they ran into the driver from that day, Alex.
