Shuling soon met the girl Liu Xue had mentioned, the one supposedly a thousand times prettier than her—Su Yi. She was indeed beautiful, with a delicate face and big, bright eyes that could captivate anyone. Even Shuling found herself drawn to her.
Su Yi's voice was sweet, and she wore a charming little dress with a small handbag, clearly a city girl raised with care. Shuling was intensely curious about how Fuqing knew her.
While standing outside, lost in thought, it was Tianyang who noticed and cleared his throat to get everyone's attention in the yard.
Fuqing turned almost immediately, smiling as he came over to support Shuling. "Weren't you taking a walk to the village entrance?"
"It got boring, so I came back."
Shuling kept an eye on the young woman. Although Liu Xue's words couldn't be entirely trusted, Fuqing was undeniably an exceptional man for this time, naturally attracting young women's attention. If Su Yi was a potential rival, Shuling needed to stay alert.
When she noticed Su Yi's gaze following Fuqing and then lingering on her belly, Shuling understood.
This girl probably has a thing for Lim Fuqing. Otherwise, why would she keep staring? One glance should be enough.
Shen Shuling instinctively turned to the side, her belly facing Lim Fuqing. Lim Fuqing, ever attentive, reached out and gently touched her stomach. "Is the baby being good?"
Last night, the baby had kicked Shuling several times. At first, Lim Fuqing was thrilled to feel the baby move for the first time. But when the baby kept kicking, he felt sorry for his wife. So, he quietly asked the baby to calm down, like a doting dad.
Su Yi quickly averted her gaze, no longer staring at Shuling's belly. Instead, she put on a sweet, innocent smile and walked over to link arms with Shuling. "Hi, Ms. Shen. I'm Su Yi. I was the one who helped Mr. Lim during the landslide."
"I've heard so much about you from him. I've been wanting to meet you for a while."
Shuling smiled back, "Really? He's just so attached to me. Thank you for saving him; otherwise, our family would have fallen apart. I wouldn't have known what to do."
As they chatted, Shuling finally learned how Lim Fuqing survived the landslide. In truth, Su Yi had simply taken the exhausted and fainted Lim Fuqing to the hospital after he had already escaped the danger of the landslide.
Even if she didn't take Lim Fuqing to the hospital, he wouldn't have died. With that thought, Shen Shuling felt much more at ease. The favor wasn't too big, just a small gesture in return would suffice.
"Ms. Shen, I'm going to start working at the city hospital. If you ever need anything, feel free to reach out," Su Yi said.
Shen Shuling nodded. "Wow, Su, are you a doctor? That's impressive!"
Looks like I'll need to switch hospitals for the delivery, just to avoid any hassle.
"Yeah, I just got back from Washington, and I'm still getting used to the place. Can I come to you for advice?"
"Of course! Your brother Lim is busy making a living, and I'm not too occupied. Whenever you're free, come by, and I'll keep you company."
Su Yi chuckled awkwardly and quickly changed the subject. The two women chatted back and forth while Lim Fuqing watched from the side.
As evening approached, Lim Fuqing headed to the kitchen without a word. "I'll cook tonight. Let me show you what I can do."
The couple shared a laugh, filling the room with a sweet, cheerful atmosphere. Su Yi quickly said her goodbyes and left with her friends, eager to not linger any longer than necessary.
