C19 Let Me Go!(1)
But she didn't realize just how sharp Yiming's eyes were. He saw right through her little tricks and bluntly exposed her: "Did I say you were hired? Even if you were, did I mention anything about a bonus?"
She inwardly groaned, realizing she'd been caught. Of course, he was the CEO—shrewd and wise. Her small schemes were no match for him.
Desperate to keep her job, she flattered him even more: "CEO, not only are you incredibly handsome, but you also have such a commanding presence. You seem astute and decisive, and most importantly, you’re fair and just, right?"
She showered him with compliments, wearing a sycophantic smile, hoping to convey, 'CEO, this really isn't my fault, so if you’re going to punish someone, make sure you have the right person.'
Yiming had heard his share of flattery before, but the sincerity in this woman's demeanor stirred something in him.
He turned toward the secretary's office and called out, "Secretary Lee..." The woman inside, who had been eavesdropping, knew she couldn't avoid this.
She had no choice but to step out, nervously and respectfully greeting him, "CEO..."
Yeh Yiming looked at her with a cold gaze and asked in a neutral tone, "Did you tell her to stop Xue Jiamin?"
Qiao Youyou watched the scene unfold, feeling satisfied that her flattery had hit the mark. It seemed the boss understood her intentions.
Unexpectedly, Li Sitong immediately shook her head, firmly denying it, "No, I didn't tell her to stop Miss Xue."
"Oh? You didn't tell her to stop?" Yiming's eyebrows arched slightly, his tone growing colder.
Li Sitong lowered her head, feeling guilty but trying to maintain her composure as she insisted, "I didn't instruct Secretary Qiao to stop Miss Xue. Secretary Qiao acted on her own, and it really has nothing to do with me."
Yiming's deep eyes turned even more intense, a chilling light flashing within them, his voice as cold and ominous as a judge's, "You're fired. You can go settle your pay with accounting."
Qiao Youyou thought he was talking to her, and her heart sank with disappointment. She lowered her head and started to head toward the elevator.
Behind her, a man's voice, seemingly suppressing laughter, called out, "Where are you going? I wasn't talking about you. Besides, you just started today. Do you even have any pay to settle?"
Her steps halted, and she realized that there was no paycheck for her to collect. His words weren't directed at her but at the scheming woman instead.
It was such a relief. Yeh Yiming had fired that secretary named Lee. Did this mean she could stay? Was her job safe now? Happiness had come so suddenly that a smile crept up on Qiao Youyou's face.
However, she felt a bit guilty because it was her words that led to Secretary Lee's dismissal. She secretly regretted it, but it wasn't her fault. In that situation, it was either Lee or herself getting fired, and she had to protect her own job.
She had no choice but to sacrifice Secretary Lee's position. After all, she had a family to support. Judging by Secretary Lee's attire, the clothes she wore, the watch on her wrist, and the necklace around her neck were all designer brands. Her entire outfit must have cost at least tens of thousands, so she probably didn't have anyone to support.
