C6 They meet

Aiden

I felt a gentle pat on my back.

"You ok?" Matt, said as he came by my side.

"I'll be fine," I assured my friend.

I closed my eyes and tried to breathe normally. Those two always infuriated me.

"I don't want any visitors for grandpa, apart from his doctors, his nurse and bodyguards. No one must be allowed in his room. Especially those two." I said gesturing at the retreating figure of Fiona and Will.

"Done! Would you like to stay tonight?" Matt asked.

I nodded.

"I'll get an extra bed fixed up for you. If you need anything else, just call Wendy. She is the nurse. And she is not your type." He joked.

I returned his grin.

"That's the last thing on my mind, even if she was my type. Thanks for everything. I appreciate that."

"It's alright. I still need to do my rounds and get some reports up. Call me if you need anything else."

He gave me an extra pat on my shoulders and walked off.

There were several reasons why Fiona and William still lived in the family mansion. My father had drawn up a will, few months before his death that Fiona and Will should be taken care of and be allowed to stay in the Reiner estate. As long as Fiona remained his widow and carried his family name.

My father has also distributed his wealth and company shares between Will and me. I got the 70% of his share, while the rest 30% was divided between Fiona and Will on the condition that I won't kick out my half brother. I wouldn't have done that anyway even if I hadn't got the 70%. However obnoxious he might be. He was still my half brother.

I was of course disgusted to stay in the same house. So, I had remodelled the manor and constructed a separate wing for myself. When I wasn't at the manor I spent my time at my penthouse.

Grandpa had however insisted on staying in the main manor because that is where he had lived his whole life, and refused to move because of those two 'freaks'. Hence, the bodyguards and security around him. I didn't trust those freaks either.

Fiona and Will continued their prurient lifestyle right under grandpa's nose.

My father's share of 30% plus the company shares could easily sustain them had they lived moderately. Instead, Will was throwing it all away in gambling, drugs and prostitutes. I knew Fiona has begged for grandpa's intervention on more than 2 occasions when Will had been caught by the police. Shutting up the media was another headache.

After making sure that grandpa was safe and snug. I took off my jacket and lay on the bed. Involuntarily my thoughts wandered to that mysterious woman I had seen in the streets.

She was somehow stuck in my head. I had driven around that way several times, hoping to get a glimpse of her. Once I had even parked my car nearby and waited to see her.

I had roamed about that place, crossed the same crossing as her so many times that I could have now crossed it in my sleep. That was my regular route anyway.

It was insane. I had no idea why I was doing that. What was I hoping to achieve? Bed her? I had no dearth of willing bed partners. Even if I managed to get her into my bed, what would that achieve? A sense of accomplishment? Wasn't my life challenging enough?

It was probably workload - it was getting to me finally. I don't know when I drifted off to sleep.

I woke up at the sound of rustling. I opened my eyes and saw grandpa struggling to get out of the bed. Throwing off my comforter I rushed to his bed.

"What are you doing grandpa?" I said holding his arm.

"Now a man can't even go to the restroom in peace." Old Malcolm grumbled.

"Of course you can. Let me call the nurse." I said and buzzed the red button next to his bed.

"I don't need a nurse, I am perfectly fine. I don't need the hospital......"

"Mr Rainer, are you trying to run away again ?" A women's voice called. An immaculately dressed women in the nurse's scrubs entered the room. She seemed to be in her 40s and her dark hair was held by a blue headband, the same colour as her scrubs.

"Hi Mr Reiner, I am Wendy, I would be looking after the senior Mr Rainer." She addressed me with a warm smile.

"Hello Wendy, thanks for your help. Please call me Aiden. Grandpa needs to use the restroom." I said.

She smiled.

"No, he doesn't, he has the catheter attached for his needs. Do you want to take a walk, Mr Rainer ?"

She addressed grandpa as if she was talking to a child. I couldn't help smiling.

"Yeah I do, now take this ruddy thing off!" I had to stop him from pulling off his drip.

"Grandpa, you must listen to this nice lady here. She is here to take care of you." I cajoled him.

"I can take care of myself, thank you very much. I am perfectly fine l. Now take me home before those freaks destroy everything." He grumbled.

"Mr Rainer how about you have your medicine and breakfast, then we'll go for a round of the campus." Wendy offered.

My grandpa seemed to calm down and considered her words. I was impressed, how easily Wendy managed to soothe him and soon he seemed satisfied enough to have his medicine and breakfast. I even took him around in a wheelchair.

It was late afternoon when I finally left the hospital. I had already changed into a formal white shirt and suit. Thanks to my secretary who had sent few extra clothes. I planned to go to my office directly.

"Remember what we discussed Aiden," Grandpa said pointedly as I was about to leave.

"What ?"

"Get married and give me an heir," he ordered.

I gave an exasperated sigh.

"Sure grandpa," I walked out.

I was still tired and had not slept well. So I decided to get some coffee from the nearest Starbucks. It would probably clear my mind. I moved to the coffee place and was just entering it when there was a flash of yellow right before me. I froze.

There she was. I forgot to breathe and took another hard hungry look at her. She was as gorgeous as I had remembered. She was wearing a pale yellow blouse and black slacks. She was sporting a cup of coffee and fishing for something in her bag. I stared at her as she walked towards me. Even though I knew I should have moved away. I let her crash into me. The coffee slipped from her hand and splashed over my white shirt. I barely registered the heat, as I stared at her. She was so close.

"I am so sorry," she said. Her voice was husky and sweet. Blood rushed to my head and I could feel my ears becoming red. She was breathtakingly beautiful. She looked up at me and stopped. Her dreamy green eyes met mine. There was a haunting emptiness in those green depths. I wanted to explore them. The feelings bare, and it shook me to the roots.

"I am sorry, I didn't see," she said again. A little flustered.

"I finally found you," I whispered.

She gave me a puzzled look.
