“I don’t mean to pry, but have you been to a doctor ever since you discovered that you were pregnant?” Margie asked one afternoon when there weren’t many customers at the supermarket.

“Um, a doctor? No. I haven’t fallen sick.”

“I don’t mean for an illness. You’re supposed to go to a doctor to make sure everything is alright with your baby.”

The girl averted her gaze and did not say anything
