C10 Chapter ten

The night was the hardest. Elaine and Becky had left after inquiring about Mom’s health and the doll a little more. I tossed and turned in bed. Too many questions were spinning in my head.

What would I say to Mason? Was my incubus still watching me from the shadows? Would we share another steamy session that night?

I was not in the mood for anything. My siblings had informed me that Mom was still unconscious. Nothing was wrong with her body. The doctors called it a case of an unexplained coma.

My tensed body was ready to put out if the spirit asked for it. All I cared about and wished was for Mom to regain consciousness.

Waiting for something to happen, I dozed off. The annoying sound of my blaring alarm woke me up. My hands turned it off, accidentally knocking it down.

I sat up on my bed, rubbing on my heavy head. My body felt sore and unrested. I believed it to be a quick nap when my eyes noticed the daylight peeking through my curtains.

“Shit!” I said, picking up the alarm clock from the floor. It was 8 in the morning.

“Shit, shit!” I needed to be at work in an hour. My clumsy body tumbled onto the floor. I stayed on the ground, still like a corpse, staring into space for five minutes before getting up to get ready.

By grabbing a breakfast sandwich and a smoothie on the way, I actually made it to my office five minutes earlier.

Around 6 p.m., I returned home. According to Mia’s texts, Mom’s condition hadn’t worsened, and my sister was holding it together well. I assured her Mom would wake up in a day or two, or at least that’s what my incubus had promised.

The smell from my underarms reminded me I hadn’t bathed in two days. I hopped in the shower and put on a long, oversized sweatshirt and black panties.

I jumped on my bed and let my body sink into the cozy mattress. Being in the comfort of my home was more enjoyable than a night out. The stress was already killing my muscles. I switched on my television and watched Netflix for an hour or two.

My stomach growled angrily. For lunch, I only had coffee and a donut. My lazy ass had difficulty leaving my bed and putting on my slippers. I'd order a pizza if I couldn't find any organic and healthy food in the kitchen.

I slowly advanced towards my bedroom door and opened it. From my peripheral vision, something moved in the shadows. I moved my attention to it and saw a tall man standing behind my couch. My heart had a mini heart attack. There was an intruder inside my apartment!

It was a good thing that the electrical switch was close to me. I turned on the light in haste. An unknown tall man with surprisingly attractive looks was staring back at me.

“Who are you!” I grabbed a vase from my round dining table and threatened him with it. “Get the fuck out of my house, or else I will kill you.”

His lips spread into a toothy smile. “I thought you would recognize me. "We've had an encounter before." His voice was deep and sexy.

Judging by his looks, he was too handsome to be a thief. However, watching too many crime shows and news has taught me one thing. A predator or deranged person could look like anything.

“Stop lying. I don’t know you. What do you want?” I yelled, gripping the vase as tightly as I could.

He gazed at me with smoldering eyes. There was something sinister and alluring about him. He put his hands inside the pockets of his black pants and stood like some model. Again, for a thief, he was too well dressed. On his ripped torso, he had a wrinkle-free khaki green shirt.

Suddenly, he decided to come from behind the couch and advance towards me. I hit the wall in a rush.

When he was only a few feet apart, I shut my eyes, breaking the vase at his head with all my might while screaming as loud as I could.

Once I opened my eyes, I was befuddled. The man was completely unaffected by my attack. His forehead was spotless. I looked at the broken pieces of the vase on the ground. For God’s sake, it was made of glass! How was he not hurt?

His upturned mint green eyes with a hue of gold were staring back at me with interest. There was nothing like the beauty of this man. Angular jawline, high cheekbones, Greek nose, and stubble beard complemented his flawless porcelain complexion. He styled his raven-black, silky straight hair messily.

My eyes were studying his face when he grabbed my arm, pushed me to the side, and took the unbroken part of the glass vase from my hand. “You could seriously hurt yourself with all that sharp glass,” he said.

“Who are you?” I asked.

He smiled with a closed mouth. “I am your incubus, Desmond, Cassidy. You expressed your wish to see me yesterday, so here I am. Look all you want.”

My mouth was about to touch the floor with all the shock. I lost my ability to react until I remembered Becky had a spare key to my apartment. A spirit didn’t have a physical form. Those idiots were messing with me!

“Who the hell sent you here?” I said, pushing him back.

“Becky, come on out now.” I looked around my apartment, searching for her. “The joke is over. I know you have a key to my place. At the seance, I complained about not knowing what my incubus looked like. And you sent a super attractive model posing to be Desmond to my place. Very funny. Ha ha!”

“Your friend’s not here.” Becky’s expensive model friend dared to come before me again and open his mouth again. “I am the one you summoned. It was me yesterday and also the other night.”

“Shut up!” I had the urge to slap him but stopped. It was a sick prank, and I was about to punish those behind it with no mercy.

“I am about to call the police on you right now for breaking into my house. You are demented to accept pay for a silly prank like this. Did modeling agencies didn’t pay you at all?”

I stormed to my bedroom to grab my phone.

After dialing the police’s number, I flipped my screen to show him. “Look. I am calling them. You better confess or explain this to the cops. Your choice.”

“Fine, call them. I am not lying nor leaving,” He said, making himself comfortable on my couch with the other half of the glass vase still in his hands. The audacity of that guy was unreal.

I notified them that there was an intruder once my call was answered.

I locked myself in my bedroom until my doorbell rang. There was no way I would stay out there with that arrogant fool.

“They are here,” I said to him while getting the door. The words I said did not bother him in the least.

I opened the door to find two police officers.

“Hello, officers. Come inside. The man is sitting on my couch uninvited and refuses to leave.” I pointed behind me with a thumb.

“That couch is empty, madam,” said the officer.

I turned my head to see it was true. Where did he go in a matter of seconds? He could be hiding behind the couch.

“We’ll search for him. He could be hiding elsewhere,” the same officer spoke.

The police officers went through my entire apartment, but he was nowhere to be seen. I also made them look out the windows with no luck. It was impossible to disappear without a trace.

The officers gave up and began to leave.

“Wait, don’t go. He was right here. I saw him,” I said to them.

“Sure. Take your schizo pills the next time. The police are not a circus for your entertainment,” said the female officer.

I stomped my feet as they closed the door behind them. Where did that man go?

“I am still here,” the man’s voice came from behind. The tall model was standing behind me.

“How? How?” I was at a loss for words. My brain was exploding.

“I was right here. They just couldn’t see me,” He continued.

“Why?” I asked weakly.

He pushed me against the wall and trapped me between his arms. “Because…” His mouth inched toward me, almost touching my lips with his. “Only those who I want can see me.”

I had no clue when he closed the distance between our lips. His long, moist tongue caused an explosion of ecstasy in my mouth. I lost control and kissed him hard, gliding my tongue over his and toying with it. The nerves in my mouth were on fire, and that’s when it hit me. It was the incubus’ kiss. He was really him! Only this time, I could taste the tenderness and warmth of his face and lips.

He broke the kiss and looked at me with a burning passion. “Recognize this?” he asked.
