Along the Eastern sky of Alaska,the sun sharpened its rays causing a bright morning.Mia was up already,but she laid in the comfort of the duvets as she remincinced on the memories she had the previous night with the handsome stranger.She had expected to wake up in his arms but to her dismay, he had left but not without a note and the 10,000,000 dollars he promised the previous night.Mia had read the note several times. Not still satisfied with the number of times, she read it again: "I'm sorry if I had hurt you but last night was great. Much love."

Her phone rang and she discovered 12 missed calls from Emma.Emma was going to be so upset with her,Mia bit her lips and answered but before she could say anything the scream in Emma's voice stopped her.

"Mia, do you want to give me a heart attack?I was scared the police must have caught you!"

Mia had to pull the phone away from her ears in order not to get deaf from the scream in Emma's voice.She understood how worried Emma must have been about her.They had grown up together in San Francisco and had moved to Alaska after her mother's death. Emma had witnessed the torture and the ills Mia had experienced after her mother's death. It had been Emma's idea to run away when the police started their investigation.She knew how cold Mia was whenever she thought of her mother and for that reason she dreaded coming to San Francisco.

It happened one winter night, Mira had just returned from the hotel where she worked as a cook during morning and afternoon shifts.She got home that night welcomed by the usual wailing of her mother.

"He was here." Mia muttered as she rushed to meet her mum in the bedroom they normally slept in.

"What is it again mother!" She asked immediately as she entered. Mia sounded angry and that was because she had a bad day at work and her muscles were already wobbling. All she needed was to sleep and her mother's tears were getting her more upset.

Her mum said nothing as she dried the tears pretending like nothing had happened.

"Mother!" Mia yelled, "I asked a question."

Again her mum didn't reply, instead she asked fearfully,

"Are you hungry?Hold on,let me get you something to eat."She left immediately, making Mira surprised by her actions.Her mother looked like she was scared but why?

Something was definitely wrong and she needed to find out what it was, her curiosity made her follow her mum slowly.

"What do you want to eat, Mia?" Her mother asked immediately she entered.

The lights in the kitchen were bright, she saw her mother's face and fear gripped her. Her beautiful mum had now been disfigured as bruises were found all over her face and body.

"Mum, he did this right?" She yelled.

"Mia, let's not start."

"Start what mother?Enough of this.Tell me where he is."

"Mia…"Her mum called.

"I'm right here, you see what you have done Carolina, she is as useless as you are."A voice said. It was Mia's father.He was a huge man with big muscles.His eyes were red and face pale as a result of his constant drinking habit. He looked like a monster and acted like one.

" How…"

"Mia! Her mother had called her angrily before she created a scene she was going to regret later.

" Let her be Carolina. Allow her to show how unruly she can be. Foolish girl."

The warm hands on Mia's shoulders stopped her from saying anything.She took a deep breath as she turned to help her mum with the dinner.

"Leave the cooking and get me a drink down the street."

" It's raining old fool."Mia yelled, She couldn't believe what she had just said, she quickly wanted to apologize but the slap on her left cheek seized the thought of the apology.

" You're like your mother. Useless and foolish." He pushed her away, making her hit her forehead on the kitchen cupboard.

" Mia, are you okay?" Her mum screamed as she rushed to check on her daughter but he grabbed her and pushed her to the sink. She screamed in pain, Mia's mum had twisted her ankle.She screamed in pain making Mia turn red in anger. She moved forward to attack him but he was a step ahead of her. He held her by the ponytail she had made but released her as he grabbed her throat making Mia choke.

Mia was already in great pain, she struggled to get herself free from the huge man's grip but she was too weak for that.

She wished her mum would come to her rescue but she knew it was impossible, her mum was lying under the sink crying in pain.Mia struggled harder and gathered up enough strength to kick him in the groin.

He winced in pain as he moved away from her. She was still angry with him and wanted to take her frustration out on him. She pushed him with all her strength but regretted it dearly, her mum who had watched her only daughter struggle with that man she called a husband had tried to get up and just when she stood up, she saw the huge body coming to her. She could only scream but it was too late, Carolina fell backwards and hit the back of her head on the sharp edge of the wall. She died instantly.

"Mia, I asked a question. Are you even listening to me?" Emma asked repeatedly.

"I'm here, I was a little distracted." She answered.

" You remembered your mother's death right?"

" Yes…How did you know?" She asked surprised.

" I have known you for more than 20 years Mia. But you know that it wasn't your fault? You didn't kill her on purpose."

"I know that but I wish I hadn't pushed my father that day."She answered almost in tears.

"Mia stop thinking about that, at least Wilson promised to get you protected from Charlotte and the Abaslon family."

The mention of Wilson's name brought more tears to her face. She remembered the previous day's events.

"I caught Wilson cheating, He was in bed with another woman." She said with tears.

" How could he have done that? Where are you? You need to leave San Francisco as soon as possible."

" Yes, I'm leaving right away. I will have my bath and leave soon."

"Mia hurry up okay, please stay safe and be careful." Emma sounded scared and concerned and she wasn't faking it.

She dropped the call and quickly prepared to leave for Alaska before Charlotte would find out about her.

4 weeks later.

"It's morning, Mia."Emma called as she opened the windows and curtains letting the morning rays of sunlight enter the room.

" I feel so hot Emma, bring some herbal tea." Mia yawned as she stretched her limbs.

"You're still down with a fever, that's why we are going to the hospital today."

"But I told you I'm fine,Emma, I don't want an injection." Mia put on a sad face but Emma wasn't going to fall for that.

"Get dressed Mia or I will do it my own way."She warned.

Mia knew her best friend was serious so she didn't protest further. She had her bath and deliberately skipped breakfast in case they should administer injections to her.

It was her way of skipping taking the drugs the doctors will administer.

They got to the hospital, it was just a short drive of about 15 minutes.The hospital was quiet, only a few patients were around and Mia was glad. She hoped to get over everything and leave the hospital soon.

A nurse came and she had to follow her to the laboratory because of the hard stares Emma gave her. They waited for a while before the results were ready.

"Good morning doctor." Emma had greeted while Mia maintained a worried look, she could only hope that she was fine.

"Morning my dear.Tte tests results are out."The doctor said as she adjusted the medicated glasses she was wearing and brought out a file. She looked at it before looking up to them.

"What do the results say, Doctor?" Mia asked, scared.

" Congratulations Miss Mia Sabastine, you're 3 weeks pregnant."

What! The two ladies exclaimed.
