C5 Marry a Vegetative Patient
Ye Jianjia hesitated for a moment before answering the call. "What's the matter?"
"Have you returned to the country?" Ye Chongyun's voice was deep and steady. "What work are you doing now? What are your future plans?"
"Oh, President Ye, now you want to play the doting father?" Ye Jianjia laughed mockingly. "Isn't that a bit too late?"
The debacle at the Ye family five years ago had torn the facade of their relationship to shreds. Any pretense of a deep father-daughter bond was nothing but empty talk.
After five years of silence, why the sudden interest in her life?
Ye Chongyun paused for a moment before responding, "Jianjia, you are still my daughter."
"And?" Ye Jianjia glanced at the wall clock. "If you're calling me in the dead of night to offer some belated paternal affection, I'm afraid I don't have the time to indulge you."
"Is it your life's ambition to stubbornly raise your illegitimate children, working tirelessly day and night to support them?" he asked.
Ye Jianjia's demeanor chilled. "You have ten seconds more."
Ye Chongyun was momentarily speechless with frustration but clung to his purpose. "These past years, you've been struggling to provide for six children. As they grow, they'll need even more resources. Don't you fear not being able to support them?"
"There's no need for you to be concerned, President Ye. If I was capable of bringing them into this world, I can certainly provide for them," Ye Jianjia retorted.
"Really?" Ye Chongyun didn't argue but continued, "The children are healthy now, which is good, but what if something happens... Ye Jianjia, you're already three million yuan in debt to the bank. Barely scraping by as you earn money, your financial situation is on thin ice. Doesn't that worry you about the 'what ifs'?"
Ye Jianjia's gaze grew intense as memories flooded back. She remembered the panic from two years ago when several of her babies had spiked fevers from bacterial infections. With the high cost of medical care abroad and not enough money for hospital admission, she had sat in the hospital corridor, clutching her children, feeling the brink of despair.
Ye Su arrived just in time to avert the crisis. Yet, she aspired to raise six children, and it was clear she couldn't depend on friends and others indefinitely!
After a prolonged silence, Ye Chongyun discerned her thoughts, "Only with sufficient funds can you safeguard those you wish to protect."
With a slight curl of her lips and a hint of a smile in her voice, Ye Jianjia teased, "Are you suggesting you're about to offer me money, President Ye?"
"Come back to the Ye family home tomorrow, and we'll strike a deal," Ye Chongyun stated bluntly. "A deal worth no less than fifty million."
Fifty million? Certainly, a significant enticement.
"When should I arrive tomorrow?" inquired Ye Jianjia.
"Nine in the morning," replied Ye Chongyun.
...
The following day, just past nine in the morning at the Ye family residence.
"Mu Tingsu, 29 years old, CEO of Mu's Group, the eldest heir of the Mu family... Young, wealthy, and truly an eligible bachelor," Ye Jianjia concluded after listening to Ye Chongyun's introduction. Turning to Ye Qingyun, who was seated nearby, she questioned, "Isn't he exactly your type? Why not marry him?"
She had been aware for years that Ye Chongyun had arranged a promising match for Ye Qingyun, but only now did she realize that the groom-to-be was the enigmatic heir of Mu's Group.
Marrying into the Mu's Group would indeed be a social leap for the Ye family.
Ye Qingyun's lips tightened as her gaze conveyed a mix of defiance and regret, which slowly morphed into scorn. "Yes, he's not just young but also quite handsome. However... he was in a car accident over five years ago and has been in a vegetative state ever since!"
Realization dawned on Ye Jianjia's face as she looked at Ye Chongyun with a trace of sarcasm, "So, President Ye, you believe that marrying a man in a vegetative state is my life's ambition?"
