C1453 The Power of the God of Ghosts
Deep within the Everlands, Yu Yuan's Lunar Spirit lay concealed within the Dragon Slaying Stage. Alongside White Bone, the Bone Wraith God, they glided into the so-called Defiled World.
It was akin to two spotless beings suddenly plummeting into a sewage trench, with the surrounding smoke and vibrant toxic smog exuding an overwhelmingly unclean aura, the shadow energy being particularly potent.
Wuwu!
Evil spirits, drawn by the unfamiliar yet sweet scent of a soul, swarmed over from a distance.
Yu Yuan, freshly ensnared by White Bone, had scarcely begun to explore or finely tune his senses when he noticed five evil spirits charging at him and White Bone with the ferocity of entities starved for eons.
Unbeknownst to them, they were confronting a God of Ghosts the likes of which the Everlands had never before encountered.
"They possess no remnants of spiritual wisdom, no discernment whatsoever..." Yu Yuan quietly grumbled to himself.
Puff!
The five evil spirits, still tens of meters from White Bone, silently dissipated into wisps of smoke, blending into the world's colorful miasma.
Yu Yuan had not even caught a glimpse of White Bone's method.
The Bone Wraith God, towering and handsome with an air of arrogance, hovered in the midst of the faint smoke, his brow furrowed in clear distaste for the environment before him.
"I'll take care of this."
White Bone extended his left hand, gesturing towards the horizon, and the dense smoke and miasma were abruptly scattered by a gale.
The hidden evil spirits within, not even managing a scream, were reduced to nothingness.
Consequently, a relatively pristine and luminous space materialized before White Bone and Yu Yuan.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
As the smoke and miasma reconvened, another gale formed, ensuring that the area before White Bone remained untainted by the corrupt psionic power.
In the midst of this, Yu Yuan's Lunar Spirit, from within the Dragon Slaying Stage, suddenly connected with Yu Yiyi and the Crucible of Evil.
It seemed that upon entering the Defiled World, this peculiar subterranean realm, the intimate bond between him and the cauldron spirit could once again be reestablished.
Yu Yiyi and the cauldron were evidently under control, situated at a considerable distance from him. The Defiled World, deep within the earth, operated under a set of rules vastly different from the Cosmic Order of the Everlands' surface. The Dragon Slaying Stage was incapable of instantaneously transporting him across the expanse.
In this chaotic and disordered world, the cosmic order was fractured and incomplete.
Yu Yuan, after a period of careful observation, noticed that the Defiled World before him was saturated with rich and dense shadow energy. However, it was also rife with distracting, evil, and malevolent thoughts. Evil spirits and ghosts that consumed it would inevitably find their spiritual wisdom eroded.
Over time, they would become like the five ghosts that had recently attacked, devoid of any sense of self or conscious spiritual wisdom.
This was in stark contrast to the Land of Terror.
The Lunar Spirits of humans, along with other soul spirits, including the ghosts of the Land of Terror, could refine the shadow energy there to bolster their spirited bodies and souls, all the while maintaining their spiritual wisdom uncorrupted. This was possible because the shadow energy in the Land of Terror was exceptionally pure, devoid of the malevolent thoughts and intents of living beings.
Beyond the chaotic and tainted shadow energy, the disordered world before him was also filled with miasma and psionic powers that seemed to originate from the depths of the Everlands, posing a threat to the flesh and spirits of living beings.
It was reminiscent of the Spawn of Chaos he had encountered in his early years, but this was even more grotesque.
"Besides the Root of the Lunar Meridian, pollutants from other areas also converge here," he noted.
White Bone radiated a bright, untainted light as he moved effortlessly through the void. Although clearly a ghost spirit, he exuded an aura of unparalleled purity and sanctity.
"I've found Luo Yue..." he announced.
His figure dashed swiftly below, a blur in the eerie landscape.
Yu Yuan was fortunate that his Lunar Spirit had fused with the Dragon Slaying Stage; otherwise, he would have struggled to keep pace with this extraordinary God of Ghosts in such an unpredictable realm.
Whoosh! The presence of this supreme ghost spirit rippled outward like a tidal wave wherever White Bone passed.
Countless evil spirits, eager to siphon a wisp of his essence, were effortlessly dissipated by his emanating aura, reduced to mere wisps of smoke.
As a God of Ghosts, the likes of which had never been seen in the annals of the Everlands, White Bone's display of overwhelming power in the Defiled World was truly invincible!
From within the Dragon Slaying Stage, Yu Yuan could discern among the oncoming evil spirits a few whose tumultuous souls rivaled that of a Spectre.
Having absorbed the chaotic and polluted shadow energy of this place for years, the few souls, devoid of spiritual wisdom, had become even more bloodthirsty and aggressive. Despite their instinctive fear, they charged at him.
Yet with a mere wave of his sleeve, White Bone obliterated them with a resounding explosion.
In the Land of Terror, the might of a Spectre was on par with that of a Solar Spirit.
Only when they left the Land of Terror for the vast expanses of the Everlands would their power diminish.
Here, the Spectre-level souls possessed the battle strength of Solar Spirits!
Even Yu Yuan, a Lunar Spirit, would need to harness the power of the Dragon Slaying Stage to contend with these Spectre souls.
But before White Bone, they were extinguished with a snap of his fingers!
"I wouldn't have led you here if I wasn't confident," he said.
Noticing the astonishment on his companion's face, White Bone let out a soft chuckle and slowed his pace. "Those sewer rats daring to challenge my Ghost King are provoking me. They likely don't understand what it means to face the God of Ghosts of the Land of Terror. Their ignorance is their audacity."
"I'm here to ensure they never dare again."
His words were laced with unyielding arrogance and dominance.
Whoosh!
A dark green miasma cloud, concealing a vague Terra Fiend within, let out a cold laugh, undeterred by the raging winds as it confronted White Bone.
"I..."
The Terra Fiend began to speak.
But White Bone's lips quirked into a slight smirk as his hand shot out, piercing the miasma cloud. His fingers, like the tenets of necromancy, seized the Terra Fiend with a fierce grip.
Puchi.
Before the Terra Fiend could utter another word, White Bone ruthlessly tore it apart.
The Terra Fiend burst, its dark will dissolving into a greenish psionic fluid that seeped through White Bone's fingers.
"I didn't give you permission to speak. Keep your mouth shut," White Bone commanded.
With a casual flick of his wrist, all traces of the dark green miasma and the Terra Fiend vanished without a trace.
Yu Yuan watched, his heart pounding at the display.
The presence of the Terra Fiend within the miasma bore a striking resemblance to the energy he had once felt from the White Walker, Fides, and their magic power.
Compared to the earlier-deceased Spectre, these ghosts were significantly more formidable. The formidable Terra Fiend had barely uttered "I" before being seized and killed by White Bone.
"I simply find this place filthy, not that I can't adapt. In the Everlands, other supreme beings besides myself would find entering here restrictive and bothersome."
"Nothing here can constrain me. If I choose, I can cut a swath through this Defiled World! I'll scatter the remnants of the Terra Fiends and the Bloodbrawlers like a flock of startled animals."
"If you don't flee, you die!" White Bone stated the harsh reality with an even tone.
"Those Terra Fiends and the stinking rats of the Bloodbrawlers could only cling to life below because the Land of Terror lacked a God of Ghosts. Other supreme beings would find themselves hampered here."
"Now that I'm in the Land of Terror, they still dare to stir up trouble." White Bone chuckled coldly.
"There are others backing them up; be cautious," Yu Yuan warned.
"I'm well aware," White Bone replied, unsurprised. It seemed he had anticipated this all along, and he continued to hurtle forward as he spoke.
"Without the courage given by outsiders, would they dare to challenge me? The moment I ascended to God of Ghosts, I could sense their trembling beneath the earth. They knew that what other pinnacle beings in the Everlands couldn't achieve, I could accomplish after my ascension."
With a whoosh, White Bone finally came to a halt.
He gazed impassively at a mountain ahead, where Luo Yue seemed to be hiding. "Earlier, those individuals wanted to draw you in, likely aiming to destroy the Dragon Slaying Stage. Your unified Dragon Slaying Stage still possesses the power to keep them in check, instilling fear in them."
"Luckily, you became wary and didn't fall for their trap."
"Even before my attempt to break through to God of Ghosts, I could sense an elusive suppressive force emanating from the depths of the Moonfall Sanctuary. They've lived longer, know more secrets, and are certainly aware of the Dragon Slaying Stage's wonders and its ability to limit ghosts and Terra Fiends."
"But now, I've completely freed myself from the Dragon Slaying Stage's suppression."
"They're still afraid, but fear is futile. Fear won't change the fact that death is inevitable."
White Bone snorted dismissively.
Before him stood a mountain eerily reminiscent of Shadow Mountain in the Land of Terror. The sinister energy swirling around the mountain's face slowly unveiled the phantom of Luo Yue.
Luo Yue's spirited body seemed besieged by innumerable evil spirits and Terra Fiends, enveloped in a thick, vile miasma that coalesced into clouds, saturating her soul.
She was in excruciating agony.
