C209 The Descendant of the Mighty Spirit King

Jin Fann's smile was tinged with mischief.

The demise of his three closest disciples hadn't fazed him in the slightest. His spirits remained high, brimming with eager anticipation.

After all, his own mentor at the Ghoul Glyph Sect had treated him in much the same manner.

On his deathbed, his teacher had confided in him about a peculiar insect concealed within the Jade Peak mountains of the Profound Sky Continent—a creature of unparalleled rarity and uniqueness.

His mentor, once a renowned alchemist within the Medicine God Sect, had scoured three continents with the aid of a fellow alchemist, known for his deranged obsession with potion-making. Together, they had gathered numerous venomous insects, from which this strange insect was ultimately cultivated.

The mad alchemist had been the one to secretly nurture it in Jade Peak, entrapping it within a specially designed cage. Despite its ability to grow in silence, the creature's escape from such confinement was unlikely to happen swiftly.

Jin Fann's teacher, having severed his own path of cultivation, had prolonged his life with an array of exotic insects and mystical herbs. Yet the dreadful toxicity of his practices had so thoroughly infiltrated his body that no remedy could stave off the inevitable.

As his life drew to a close, Jin Fann remained the sole disciple by his side.

It was only in those final moments that his teacher unveiled the truth.

Jin Fann's fellow disciples had all perished—some by their own misfortune, others by Jin Fann's own schemes.

He alone had survived.

His teacher revealed that the strange insect was originally intended for the mad alchemist of the Medicine God Sect. But that alchemist had perished, consumed by his own concoctions, his spirit shattered.

The toxic smog formation, a safeguard left by the alchemist, had deterred Jin Fann's master from any hasty actions, fearing the lethal traps that might have been left behind.

After three centuries, as Jin Fann's master neared his end, he speculated that the insect, with its vast energy and potential, must have already matured and broken free from its shackles.

With this in mind, he imparted the secret to Jin Fann, urging him to attempt a bond with the strange insect, to see if it might accept him as its new master.

If the Strange Insect were to accept Jin Fann as its master, his standing within the Ghoul Glyph Sect would skyrocket. He could even dare to dream of ascending to the pinnacle of the Sect and claiming the title of Sect Master.

Jin Fann harbored a mix of hatred and fear for his master, aware of the lifelong risks his master had taken and trusting in his master's discernment. Thus, he pinned great hopes on the Strange Insect.

The loss of a few personal disciples was inconsequential to him. If he could gain the Strange Insect's allegiance, as his master had suggested, it would lay the groundwork for his future bid for the Sect Master's throne. Any sacrifice would be worthwhile.

To the Strange Insect, these young alchemists from the Profound Sky Continent were nothing more than delectable morsels.

He intended to observe closely, using his soul to keenly perceive and understand the Strange Insect's temperament and traits, to see if they matched his master's descriptions.

Only then could he gauge the extent of the Strange Insect's development over three hundred years.

Should it prove to be overwhelmingly powerful, he would need to prepare ahead of time and devise alternative strategies.

In Jin Fann's eyes, the men and women before him were as good as dead.

"Ghoul Glyph Sect!"

"You're from the Ghoul Glyph Sect!"

Upon Jin Fann's disclosure of his affiliation, the expressions of the young alchemists from the various empires of the Profound Sky Continent shifted subtly.

The Ghoul Glyph Sect's infamy was well-known; any practitioner worth their salt had heard of its notoriety.

"Senior!"

Bai Shenshen spoke with a frown, "This is Medicine Sect territory. Your presence here with your disciple is tolerable, but why utter such frightening words? What do you mean by 'delicious'?"

With a sly grin, Jin Fann replied nonchalantly, "It means nothing at all."

The alchemists in attendance exchanged uneasy glances, uncertain of Jin Fann's odd demeanor.

Lau Zaihe of the Divine Might Empire quietly began to withdraw, his gaze fixed in the direction of the Medicine Sect's stronghold.

He had already sensed that something was off.

"Don't leave."

Jin Fann burst into hearty laughter, paying no mind to Lau Zaihe's prestigious origins as he expelled a burst of Qi.

The Qi swirled with mist, a dazzling display of colors, and swiftly made its way toward Lau Zaihe.

From within the Qi, a massive ghoul glyph unfurled, spanning an acre. It soared above Lau Zaihe's head, instantly forming a binding seal.

Lau Zaihe suddenly felt as though he was encased in layers of invisible stones, completely hemmed in without a single crevice for escape.

"Stone Talisman!"

Bai Shenshen's expression chilled. She could see many unseen spiritual lights morph into stones, encasing Lau Zaihe from every direction.

While the Stone Talisman might not significantly restrict her, it was a different story for Lau Zaihe, the young alchemist of the Divine Might Empire, who would struggle to break free.

"He is a descendant of the Mighty Spirit King from the Divine Might Empire!" Bai Shenshen exclaimed.

"Divine Might Empire, Mighty Spirit King..." Jin Fann paused, then nodded thoughtfully. "The Mighty Spirit King is indeed a formidable figure. I hadn't realized you had such an illustrious ancestor."

"Retrieve!"

With a sweeping gesture, a ball of green lightning erupted from his palm.

The Stone Talisman above Lau Zaihe's head quickly reformed into a ball of Qi and was ingested with a single gulp.

"Being a descendant of the Mighty Spirit King, I'll cut you some slack. You're free to go."

Jin Fann waved his hand, somewhat reluctantly releasing Lau Zaihe.

Lau Zaihe, with his dignified demeanor, merely nodded in acknowledgment, not uttering a word before swiftly departing without looking back.

"That's a perceptive young man," Yu Yuan mused to himself, turning to Bai Shenshen with curiosity. "Is the Mighty Spirit King that powerful?"

Bai Shenshen gave a wry smile. "The Mighty Spirit King of the Divine Might Empire was the younger brother of the former Emperor, a prodigy favored by the Devil Palace and chosen to practice the authentic Devil Spell. A century ago, he ventured into the Quietus Continent at the late stage of the Soul Wandering realm."

"The current Mighty Spirit King is a Yang God Stage practitioner with the Devil Palace and hasn't set foot in the Profound Sky Continent for many years."

"The Ghoul Glyph Sect, also a prominent sect on the Quietus Continent, knows better than to cross the descendants of the Mighty Spirit King, even though he himself is no longer on the Profound Sky Continent."

"The Devil Palace and Demon Palace stand as the two most towering, insurmountable peaks on the Quietus Continent!" Bai Shenshen exclaimed.

"You're absolutely right. We have no desire to clash with the Mighty Spirit King, and likewise, the Ghoul Glyph Sect isn't looking to draw the Devil Palace's wrath." Jin Fann conceded, casting a sidelong glance at the younger members gathered. "Should any of you share an ancestor with the Mighty Spirit King and have sought refuge on our Quietus Continent early on, I might just turn a blind eye."

"My grandfather has attained the Soul Wandering Stage at the Profound Sky Sect on the Heavenly Source Continent!" a young girl in a white dress called out.

"Profound Sky Sect?" Jin Fann sneered. "The practitioners from the Heavenly Source Continent are natural adversaries to us here on the Quietus Continent. That won't work in your favor."

The other juniors began to clamor, each invoking the prestige of their elders.

"It's too late," Yu Yuan murmured with a low sigh.
