C219 Good Intentions Are Treated as a Donkey's Liver

"Brother Liu? Brother Liu?"

Hu Yue's soft call and a gentle wave caught Lau Zaihe's drifting attention.

Hu Yang, Hu Hann, and the rest of the Hu family members gathered around.

Yu Yuan was unaware that the Divine Might Empire and the Kingdom of Rewia maintained a harmonious relationship, with close ties and frequent interactions among their noble families.

Lau Zaihe, a descendant of the Mighty Spirit King, had a secret alliance with the Hu family of the Kingdom of Rewia.

The Lau family, along with many others from the Divine Might Empire, relied on the Hu family for their craftsmanship in weapons and artifacts.

Lau Zaihe had made several visits to the Hu family.

From the moment Hu Yue first laid eyes on Lau Zaihe as a guest at her family's home, her heart was secretly promised to him, and she had brought him up in conversation both openly and in private.

The Hu family excelled in weapon forging, and Lau Zaihe, with his extraordinary talent in medicine from the Lau family of the Divine Might Empire, were an ideal match for a marital alliance.

Hu Yue wholeheartedly embraced the idea of marrying him.

Yet, the Lau family believed Lau Zaihe was destined for greatness, favored by the Medicine God Sect of the Quietus Continent in Jade Peak, and would be taken under their wing.

Lau Zaihe had never indicated a desire to take Hu Yue as his wife.

Thus, the matter was never formally proposed.

Nonetheless, the amicable relations between the Lau and Hu families remained unaffected.

"Zaihe, are Yu Yuan and Miss Chen in a servant relationship?" Hu Yang inquired with a furrowed brow. "Even if they are servants, we must not offend. Miss Chen is the beloved protégé of the Luan Bird Empire's Empress and is destined for great heights on the Heavenly Source Continent."

Hu Hann gave a slight nod, "She's bound to claim her place in the vast expanse of the future."

"They are not servants," Lau Zaihe stated flatly, his expression cool. "Our paths merely crossed by chance. I can't fathom what stroke of luck that young man stumbled upon to pique her interest."

"His name is Yu Yuan, correct?" a guest of the Hu family inquired.

"That's right," Lau Zaihe confirmed.

"Silvermoon Empire, Darkmoon City, the Yu family, Yu Yuan..."

The Hu family's guest pondered for a moment, then flashed a sly grin. "How curious. The young master of the Yu family from Darkmoon City is rumored to be a simpleton. And yet, Lin Zhuyun of the Silvermoon Empire's five moons is his betrothed in name."

Upon hearing the remark, a few of the Hu family's guest officials burst into hearty laughter.

These guests weren't originally from the Kingdom of Rewia; some had been citizens of the Silvermoon Empire. Whether they had fallen out of favor or run into trouble there, they had sought refuge in the Kingdom of Rewia, taking up positions as guests within the Hu family, drawn by the family's renowned skills in artifact refinement.

Many were unfamiliar with Yu Yuan, but the name of Lim Zhuyun's betrothed had reached their ears.

"What's the situation?" Hu Yue inquired with curiosity.

The guests shared Yu Yuan's story, explaining how he was regarded as a simpleton throughout the Silvermoon Empire, a figure of ridicule, with even his own family and Lim Zhuyun becoming the butt of jokes.

After listening, Hu Yue pursed her lips dismissively. "So he's that kind of guy. And here I was, thinking he was someone to be taken seriously."

"A man like that doesn't warrant our attention," remarked one of the guests.

Heads nodded in consensus.

And so, they swiftly resolved to disregard Yu Yuan's advice, continuing their journey toward Chilly Wind Valley.

...

Amidst the verdant forest, Yu Yuan came to an abrupt halt.

Sunlight, sharp as blades, sliced through the leafy canopy, casting its gleam upon the earth and speckling the ground with numerous points of light.

Yu Yuan surveyed the scattered white bones with a furrowed brow. "These are the remains of humans and spirit beasts, likely too tough for digestion and thus expelled."

From a distance, Chen Qingyan gave the bones a brief look and frowned. "The majority are human, with only a few belonging to the forest's spirit beasts. What do you think devoured their flesh and then found it too bothersome to keep the bones?"

"You know the answer," Yu Yuan replied, covering his nose and stepping forward to crouch for a closer examination. He reached out to touch a broad, greyish-white bone. "This one's from the hind leg of a spirit beast. The flesh has been completely eaten away, tendons and all."

Chen Qingyan remained silent, following closely behind.

Yu Yuan soon rose to his feet, his gaze fixed in one direction. "For some reason, I have this feeling that we're heading into a fierce battle inside Chilly Wind Valley."

"A fierce battle?" Chen Qingyan exclaimed in astonishment.

"Yes, the Poisoners confined by the Medicine Sect might break free," Yu Yuan mused, his eyes narrowing. "And it's likely that Jin Fann isn't the only one from the Ghoul Glyph Sect who's come to Jade Peak. Their cultivation of various alien beasts heavily depends on the expertise of Poisoners."

He was acutely aware of the foundation upon which the Ghoul Glyph Sect had built its rise to power.

Knowing his senior brother's disposition, he was certain that after his reincarnation, he would have immediately severed any connections with the Ghoul Glyph Sect.

Without the Poisoners, the Ghoul Glyph Sect would have to find alternative means to advance their poisonous insects.

Once the Poisoners trapped in Chilly Wind Valley were liberated, if they agreed to join the Ghoul Glyph Sect on their journey to the Quietus Continent, they would instantly bolster the sect's strength.

Moreover, once that entity was released, Jin Fann would undoubtedly need the Poisoners' skills to restrain and domesticate it.

"If the Ghoul Glyph Sect has a significant number of disciples arriving, the Medicine God Sect won't just stand by," Chen Qingyan declared.

"Do you intend to join me? For the long haul?" Yu Yuan asked abruptly.

Chen Qingyan's eyes sparkled. "Rest assured, I won't be a burden to you."

"Very well." Yu Yuan nodded in agreement and continued, "As for the Hu family and Lau Zaihe, should they perish in Chilly Wind Valley or fall into peril, I will not intervene."

He paused briefly before adding, "The fish meat is merely a token of my goodwill—a warning. If they choose to ignore it, they have only themselves to blame for their fate."

"There's no need for explanations. I have no ties to the Hu family or Lau Zaihe," Chen Qingyan said with a smile in her eyes. "Their fate is of no concern to me."

"Good!"

Two days later.

As Yu Yuan drew nearer to Chilly Wind Valley, he suddenly spotted a figure in the sky—a man with the body of a dragon, exuding sheer arrogance as he weaved through the dense foliage towards the valley.

The moment the draconic figure was about to fly overhead, he came to an abrupt halt.

With a look of surprise, the man peered down at Yu Yuan, who was hidden beneath the leaves, and with his mouth agape, he blurted out, "What are you doing here?"

Chen Qingyan braced herself as if preparing for a formidable foe, a profoundly terrifying sword intent fermenting within her.

She sensed that this man was even more powerful than Jin Fann of the Ghoul Glyph Sect.

"Why are you heading to Chilly Wind Valley?" Yu Yuan snorted, his tone laced with warning. "Take my advice—stay away from Chilly Wind Valley. You're not equipped to handle it!"
