C324 The Moon Slayer Sword Sheath

Suspended a thousand feet in the air, the Fallen Star Eyes resembled the Silver Peaks, immovable and serene.

Beneath them lay a city in ruins, its broken walls and shattered white tiles strewn across the ground.

In a corner of this unnamed city, the earth had split open to reveal a pit.

The pit was shallow, containing only a massive skull as white as platinum, which gleamed under the moonlight.

Within the skull's single eye socket rested a brown eyeball the size of a fist.

The skull, with its two curved horns, was clearly not of human origin.

A green-black sword sheath, wrapped in shark skin, had been driven into the center of the skull like a stake.

The mouth of the sheath radiated light, brimming with a contained sword's will.

Liu Ying of the Starmoon Sect stood at the edge of the pit, gazing curiously at the hole within the city and the scabbard atop the skull.

The sword's will within the green-black sheath had stirred the Fallen Star Eyes.

Had it not been for the sword's will, she would never have noticed the pit in the inconspicuous ruins of the Forgotten Ruins.

As she beheld the sword sheath, a sense of familiarity washed over her, as if the sword's will it contained shared a hidden connection with the Fallen Star Eyes that resonated with her spirit.

Liu Ying found herself reflecting on the origins of the Fallen Star Eyes.

This rare treasure, enriched with a hundred golds by the elders of the Starmoon Sect and forged over decades, had come from a relatively intact piece of aerolite in the Moonfall Sanctuary.

The aerolites of the Moonfall Sanctuary were believed to be remnants of a bright moon that once graced the starry sky.

A supremely powerful being had created the Moonfall Sanctuary in the aftermath of the Moon Slayer event.

The Fallen Star Eyes, bestowed upon her by the Starmoon Sect as a treasure for life cultivation, still harbored the enduring sword's will of the Moon Slayer.

It was not so much that the sword sheath had caught her attention, but rather that it had awakened the residual sword's will within the Fallen Star Eyes.

Liu Ying, having descended alone, had left the Fallen Star Eyes hovering above, driven by fear.

She felt a sense of dread from the familiar sword's will hidden within the sword sheath.

"Liu Ying."

Yu Yuan's voice arrived abruptly, catching her off guard.

Yet, when Yu Yuan appeared suddenly beside her, her eyes sparkled with brilliant starlight. "You!"

She stared at Yu Yuan's arms in astonishment, sensing the sword's will they contained.

The ancient, vast, and powerful sword's will was identical!

"No wonder I felt a kinship with you upon our first meeting, engaging in conversation through the night without fatigue."

Yu Yuan smiled, gesturing toward the Fallen Star Eyes above. "This rare treasure plummeted from the extraterrestrial realm after a cultivator of swordsmanship, the Moon Slayer, struck down the moon. That same cultivator had repressed the Moonfall Sanctuary for years. The massive aerolites that fell from the heavens are a crucial component of the Soulforge Matrix, an ancient and enduring construct."

Liu Ying's pretty face was a picture of bewilderment.

"In the Moonfall Sanctuary, I acquired a sword's will and concealed it within my arms," Yu Yuan explained with a smile. "This sword's will is from the Moon Slayer who left it there. It has become a part of your Fallen Star Eyes, and the residual sword's will within them also belongs to that person. And this sword sheath..."

He paused there.

Earlier, at the lake, Shen Feiqing had inadvertently triggered something that caused his arm bones to burn fiercely, shrouded in a mysterious mist, as if aided by divine forces, and was forcibly filled with spiritual energy.

He had been clueless about the reason for the sudden surge of power in his arm bone's sword light.

With Yan Qiling's assistance, he arrived at the dilapidated city and, upon seeing the sword sheath embedded in the giant skull, he began to piece things together.

This sword sheath was very likely the one belonging to the Moon Slayer, the cultivator who wielded the Divine Sword.

According to Yue Fei, the Divine Sword and the Lunar Meteorites fell into the Moonfall Sanctuary, completing the Soulforge Matrix and amplifying its might to shake the heavens. Such power that even ancient beings like the Sky Fiend, Indigo Wraith, and the Stormcrowned Emperor could not break free.

Yet, Yue Fei had never once spoken of the sword sheath.

Yu Yuan had not considered that the Divine Sword, capable of slaying the moon, would have its sheath left behind.

Moreover, it was located in the Forgotten Ruins, impaled on a massive skull.

"Is this the sheath for the Crescent Moon Divine Sword?" Liu Ying inhaled deeply, tuning into the sword's will emanating from Yu Yuan's arm bone. Her eyes sparkled with realization.

She laughed softly, a sweet sound. "So that's how it is."

Guiding someone into her Fallen Star Eyes was a departure from her usual rules.

Ever since she refined the Fallen Star Eyes, they had been hers alone, her most intimate domain.

At times, she would use the Fallen Star Eyes to transport her sect's disciples, allowing them to glide through the cosmos.

Yet, in the absence of battle or urgency, she forbade outsiders from entering.

When Wang Jinlin from the Ethereal Void Sect intruded, it had made her quite uneasy, but concerns for Chong Xiao and the sect's teleportation circle forced her hand.

But with Yu Yuan, she realized she had willingly brought him into her space.

And it was more than that.

Together in the Fallen Star Eyes, they conversed effortlessly through the night, feeling increasingly at ease, as if they had known each other for ages.

"It was all because of the sword's will."

Liu Ying whispered to herself, her cheeks unexpectedly warming. "I was terrified. I thought... I thought..."

But she quickly regained her composure.

"Did you feel the pull of the sword's will in the sheath too?" she asked, her expression serene and her voice gentle. Pointing to the sheath, she continued, "I've been watching it for quite a while but didn't dare to approach. If you want to try taking it, go ahead. I won't interfere."

Yu Yuan chuckled to himself.

He wished he could tell her that he had rushed over not to witness her demise.

Neither Yan Qiling, Yu Zhu, nor Zhou Cangmin held any fondness for her, the keeper of the Fallen Star Eyes.

"Swoosh!"

A streak of arc light, fierce as a bolt of lightning, came hurtling through the air.

The very fabric of the void seemed to rip apart in its wake.

Slender, luminous cracks chased the arc light, racing like thunder dragons and electric snakes, hurtling towards us.

"Lord Commander!"

Liu Ying's face paled as she reached for the Fallen Star Eyes, ready to evacuate the crater.

"Don't be so hasty."

Yu Yuan looked at her, gently shaking his head with a smile. "Relax. Remember the feast I promised you when you landed on Mid-Lake Island?"

"She, she..."

Watching the Commander rapidly approach, Liu Ying's anxiety grew.

"It's alright," Yu Yuan reassured her softly.

After a brief hesitation, Liu Ying stayed put, instinctively moving closer to him.

Shen Feiqing, her small frame masked, crashed to the ground with a thunderous impact.

The earth seemed to plummet the moment she touched down.

The floating island followed leisurely, with Yu Zhu and Xu Zixi peering into the crater, their expressions peculiar.

Whoosh!

Yan Qiling and the High Oracle arrived almost simultaneously.

"Cangmin, that person from Winter's Bite..." Xu Zixi began urgently.

The High Oracle, with a detached expression, simply stated, "Mission accomplished."

Yan Qiling, emerging from the Moonfall Sanctuary, regarded the state preceptor with evident trepidation.

From Zou Jin's demise, Yan Qiling had gleaned the state preceptor's chilling nature and his formidable combat prowess.

Yu Zhu and Xu Zixi descended from the floating island in turn.

"Ms. Xu!" Liu Ying cried out in surprise.

Xu Zixi offered a faint smile, giving no explanation, but she shot Liu Ying a knowing look, signaling her to stay close to Yu Yuan and keep silent.

"Now that we're all here..."

Yu Yuan's playful demeanor vanished as he cleared his throat and gestured towards the massive skull. He addressed the commander of the Sunblessed Empire, "Senior Shen, as per our agreement, should the Mystic Gate open, we all get our share."

Liu Ying's eyes widened in realization. Looking at Yu Yuan anew, she saw him in a monstrous light.

How had Yu Yuan managed to scheme alongside such titans for a share of the Mysterious Realm?
