C79 Showing Goodwill
"Eh?"
Yan Lu, Su Yan, and Zhan Tianxiang simultaneously sensed something.
Three pairs of eyes instantly snapped in the same direction!
Yu Yuan pointed toward Zhu Huan's corpse from a distance, yet to the onlookers, there was nothing particularly odd about the gesture.
However, the three who had exhausted themselves battling Zhu Huan were on high alert. They noticed the green light that had emanated from Zhu Huan's body flicker out just as Yu Yuan raised his hand to point.
This green light, carrying the soul's vibrations, was sinister, cruel, and brutal—undeniably Zhu Huan's aura.
In essence, this green light was the alien soul that had taken residence in Zhu Huan's flesh!
Should the alien soul depart from the body, it might seek a new host and wreak havoc once more among those present.
Yan Lu and the others were spent. If the alien soul found a new vessel, they doubted they could muster the strength to unleash their full power as they had before.
Yu Yuan's distant pointing, and the aura it conveyed, had severed the alien soul's essence, leaving the trio inwardly astonished.
That's why they all turned their gaze to Yu Yuan in unison.
"Why are you all staring at me?"
Yu Yuan, with a raised hand, awkwardly scratched the back of his head, feigning ignorance of the event.
Only he understood that the sword light, branded into his bones, had indeed effortlessly vanquished Zhu Huan's soul spirit.
He felt confident that as long as the alien soul did not find flesh and remained exposed as a pure soul spirit, he could wield his "sword" to strike it down.
This so-called "sword" was, of course, not a physical entity but a fusion of the sword spirit, sword's will, and sword light.
Both ethereal and formless, the sword spirit used his hand bone as its blade, and the terrifying sword's will it emitted could annihilate the soul within Zhu Huan's body.
Yu Yuan understood that the so-called alien soul was not akin to a human Lunar Spirit, which was far from frail.
"I've found a solution," Yu Yuan mused to himself. "Next time I encounter someone like Zhu Huan, harboring an alien soul, I'll first obliterate the flesh and shatter the skull. Once the alien soul is forced out, the sword spirit etched into my bones will be perfectly poised to strike, instantly destroying it."
He had an inkling that the sword spirit was the nemesis of the alien soul harbored within Zhu Huan's body. The sword spirit, sword's will, and sword light, all once part of the now-missing sword, seemed destined to annihilate entities like the alien soul.
Should the alien soul dare to emerge, it would be ruthlessly cut down without mercy.
"It's okay, I just wanted to have a look at you."
Zhan Tianxiang from Sillserine City flashed a wide grin, his laughter carrying a strange, wild edge, yet his face was brimming with goodwill.
Zhan Tianxiang was well aware that the alien soul, jointly expelled from Zhu Huan's body by the three of them, should have managed to flee—if Yu Yuan hadn't intervened.
The means by which the young master of the Yu family from Asvetaesi dispatched the alien soul remained a mystery to Zhan Tianxiang.
Yet, deep down, he had come to regard Yu Yuan as a pivotal figure.
"The instincts of the Berserk Golden Rhino are indeed infallible," thought Yan Lu, his mind roiling with tumultuous thoughts.
The emotion the fourth-level Berserk Golden Rhino last conveyed to him was fear of Yu Yuan, a sentiment Yan Lu accepted without question.
Yan Lu had assumed it was because Yu Yuan possessed a treasure that posed a threat to the Berserk Golden Rhino, like the Lunar Lightning.
The simultaneous detonation of four Lunar Lightning could unleash thousands of silver bolts, overwhelming the Berserk Golden Rhino to the point of near death or grievous injury.
Yan Lu had believed the Berserk Golden Rhino had instinctively detected the scent of Lunar Lightning, but now, he wasn't so sure.
He still couldn't fathom, still couldn't discern, how Yu Yuan managed to obliterate those fleeing alien souls in the blink of an eye.
But the significance of Yu Yuan was not lost on him.
"The Yu family's naive young master, Lin Zhuyun's betrothed..."
Su Yan gently bowed her head, not looking back at Yu Yuan but instead contemplating Zhu Huan's corpse, now reduced to a mound of flesh. "During our time in Asvetaesi, was it really proper for our family to exert such pressure on the Yu family? Demanding the Yu family surrender their herbalist, insisting that those of the Yu family entering the trials must pledge their allegiance to me upon entering the forbidden area?"
As the thought crossed her mind, a hint of bitterness tugged at the corner of her mouth.
Why should Yu Yuan pledge his loyalty to Su Yan?
Was it simply because she was a member of the Su family, which held the Yu family's fate in its grasp, that Yu Yuan was expected to heed her commands?
Even if Yu Yuan submitted, could she truly keep him under control during the trials in the forbidden area and conceal the brilliance that was bound to shine through?
"Yu Yuan, what was that thing that emerged from Zhu Huan's body?"
Once Lee Yu had departed, Lee Yuan, the head of the Lee family, reappeared. Pointing at the gruesome remains, he demanded, "You discovered Zhu Huan first. How did you know he was the intruder?"
"It wasn't a Lunar Spirit," interjected Han Hui. "Any one of our race's Lunar Spirits could easily annihilate us all! Besides, most Lunar Spirits are unseen and formless."
"Enough, I wasn't asking you!" Lee Yuan snapped, his patience wearing thin. He turned back to Yu Yuan, "I'm asking you!"
Yu Yuan shrugged. "I don't know much, but I had a hunch something was off with Zhu Huan, that he was out to kill me, to kill all of us."
"Based on a hunch?" Lee Yuan was clearly unsatisfied.
"Why not?" Yu Yuan replied with a sardonic grin. "After all, my intuition has been spot on."
The Lee family had lost two members who, in their attempt to encircle Yu Yuan, were fatally struck by the Lunar Lightning.
Lee Yuan himself had been wounded and was seething with frustration.
He dared not lash out at Yan Lu, Su Yan, or Zhan Tianxiang, so he directed his ire at trial-takers like Yu Yuan and Han Hui, who hailed from smaller cities.
"I'm convinced you know more about that object's origins!" Lee Yuan inhaled deeply, pressing on, "What do you know? Speak up for the sake of everyone's safety."
Yu Yuan shook his head once more. "I don't know."
Before Lee Yuan could erupt in anger, Yu Yuan settled himself among the Su family members and said, "We're all exhausted and need to focus on our recovery. Those who haven't exerted themselves and still have energy, perhaps you could take care of the body? Leaving it here is quite bothersome with the stench of blood in the air."
He was openly ridiculing the Lee family, offering no assistance to Zhu Huan from start to finish.
Initially, it was Yu Yuan and Zhao Yafu who revealed Zhu Huan's true identity and struck him down with Lunar Lightning. When Zhu Huan resurfaced, Yan Lu, Su Yan, and Zhan Tianxiang joined forces to besiege him.
As for the final blow, it remained a mystery to the onlookers, and he modestly refrained from claiming any credit for himself.
Lee Yuan was about to speak again.
"Enough already," Yan Lu interjected, clearly annoyed. "Lee Yuan, take care of the body, will you? The Lee family has suffered losses, but who hasn't?"
Su Yan chimed in, "Let's just leave it at that, no more bickering."
"Right, let's all focus on recovery. Who knows what challenges lie ahead?" Zhan Tianxiang stated, then turned to Yu Yuan with a smile. "Brother, you gave it your all earlier. Could you use a pill to speed up your recovery?"
"I've got plenty to spare."
He proactively extended his kindness towards Yu Yuan.
Yan Lu paused briefly before adding, "I have a soul-soothing one as well. It might be of use to you."
Su Yan wore a peculiar look.
The others were taken aback by the exchange.
