C29 The Joint Visit of the Two Eldest Sisters
Niu Li and the Elf had a restful night's sleep. Despite the brevity of the day, it was packed with activity, with one event following another. In fact, Niu Li experienced more in this single day than he had in the past decade.
With so much happening, it's no wonder that one's spirit would feel worn out. Niu Li's mental energy may have gotten a slight boost from the day's events, but it left his mind overwhelmed. As soon as he hit the bed, he plunged into a deep slumber. The Elf, too, curled up cozily in Niu Li's embrace, finding a snug position before drifting off to dreamland.
The next morning, Niu Li awoke feeling invigorated and clear-headed, noticing a subtle increase in his mental energy. This constant sense of enhancement was truly exhilarating.
The light outside the window indicated the usual time for students to be up and about, suggesting his internal clock had instinctively adjusted to his routine. He was, after all, still a student.
He sensed that the Elf was still deep in sleep, nestled in the crook of his arm, her lips puckered and drooling slightly—utterly adorable.
Unable to resist, Niu Li gently tapped the Elf's nose before using his ring to transport her inside it for a well-deserved rest. The little one's magical and mental energy had been depleted more than Niu Li's, and she needed to recharge.
After freshening up, Niu Li wasn't surprised to find that his parents had already left for the day. They were accustomed to their early starts and late finishes, and he often missed seeing them.
He quickly ate the breakfast his mother had prepared before heading off to school.
The peak of summer was upon them, and the semester was drawing to a close. Despite Niu Li's transformation in personality and his newfound wealth, he hadn't neglected his studies. He was the beacon of hope for his parents, and he was determined to produce results that would put their minds at ease. Besides, pursuing his education was precisely what he ought to be doing at his age.
Niu Li arrived at school promptly, just in time for the regular class schedule.
Entering his classroom, the second-year [3] class was buzzing with its usual energy. Many seats were empty, a silent testament to the disregard some students had for the school's rules and regulations.
This time, the usual chaotic buzz was replaced by two distinct clusters of people. And it seemed like there was no love lost between the two groups.
As soon as Niu Li entered, the chatter ceased and all eyes turned to him. Niu Li was taken aback. Had his reputation in the class reached such heights that his mere presence could command silence?
He quickly realized why the groups were there—they were both centered around a single person. One group encircled Lee Mengmeng, casting disdainful glances at Niu Li by the door, while the other group sized him up with curiosity. They, too, were gathered around a girl—a pure and delicate-looking girl with large, captivating eyes.
Niu Li gave Lee Mengmeng a brief, indifferent glance before shifting his attention to the big-eyed girl.
He recognized her. She was Miao Tiantian, one of the top three female figures at Mingxing High School. Rumor had it her father was the mayor of H City and her grandfather a provincial party leader.
Despite her innocent appearance, one shouldn't be fooled into thinking she was gentle—those were deceptive looks. There were whispers about a sunny, handsome guy who, after pursuing her too persistently, was left crippled and disfigured at her behest.
Yet, Niu Li couldn't recall ever interacting with her. What was she doing in Class 3, Grade 2, all of a sudden? These female heavyweights were usually among the senior students.
"You've seen Sister Mengmeng and you're not coming over to pay your respects?" a brawny student beside Lee Mengmeng taunted Niu Li.
Niu Li couldn't be bothered to give him a glance, let alone acknowledge Lee Mengmeng.
He made his way to his seat and addressed a student who clearly didn't belong in Class 3, Grade 2, "Excuse me, you're in my seat."
This disregard enraged Lee Mengmeng's group, while Miao Tiantian's crowd responded with jeers, seizing the chance to mock their rivals.
"Niu Li, didn't you hear me?" The muscular classmate's face darkened as he strode toward Niu Li, ready to grab his hair and drag him to Lee Mengmeng to apologize.
Niu Li made the first move.
Gradually mastering the flow of magical power with the Elf's guidance, Niu Li had become adept at wielding Wind Blade and Fireball. Coupled with his unique insights, his skill was nearly on par with a martial arts master in a mere instant.
With a flick of his wrist, a wisp of magic, infused with the fire element, rapidly condensed in his palm. The small orb of fire took shape swiftly, leaving only a faint red elemental pattern in the center of his hand.
This delicate pattern, if unleashed, would be too much for any ordinary person to bear.
The burly student hadn't even managed to grab Niu Li's hair when he felt an explosive force erupt from Niu Li's palm.
In the blink of an eye, the burly student was sent flying uncontrollably and knocked out cold.
A hush fell over the classroom.
The bravado of Lee Mengmeng's clique and the jeers from Miao Tiantian's corner vanished. Everyone's jaws dropped as they stared at Niu Li, dumbfounded.
Was he even human?
With a single palm strike, he had sent a man weighing over a hundred jin soaring!
Could this be the fabled internal power from the legends of martial arts?
"Look, Tiantian, Niu Li must be a martial artist," exclaimed a skinny young man with thick glasses next to Miao Tiantian, his eyes shining with admiration and excitement.
"My brother practices martial arts too, but he doesn't seem to be this formidable," Miao Tiantian mused, a hint of confusion in her eyes.
"You dare to harm my men; do you have a death wish?" Lee Mengmeng stood up abruptly, anger etched on her face, yet her eyes betrayed a flicker of surprise and caution.
Lee Mengmeng was no fool. She had come out of curiosity upon hearing that Niu Li, whom she used to bully, had grown bold. She hadn't expected him to be this formidable; none of her brother's men could match that.
Niu Li ignored Lee Mengmeng, his gaze settling on the classmate still seated at his desk, his expression serene.
Originally, this classmate had been eager to showcase his talents, recognizing that such opportunities were few and far between.
But Niu Li's subsequent palm strike utterly shattered the student's confidence. He was even slighter in build than the one who had fainted, not to mention his dread of pain!
At that moment, the student remained seated, his legs having turned to jelly.
Yet, when Niu Li's gaze fell upon him once more, he felt as though a myriad of sharp spikes had suddenly sprouted beneath him, propelling him to his feet. He offered Niu Li a deferential smile and a nod, hastily putting some distance between them.
Niu Li was intimidating, akin to a Ferocious Beast in human form.
Settling back into his seat, Niu Li turned his attention to Lee Mengmeng. He hadn't anticipated that today, she would appear without makeup, her natural beauty giving her a youthful, fresh-faced allure.
Still, the memory of her past antagonism towards him cast a shadow over his thoughts. She was so attractive; why did she insist on being his adversary?
