C28 Ghosts Beat the Walls
At dinner, Auntie Qiu cooked a table full of delicious dishes, especially pots of hot dumplings. The smell alone was enough to whet one's appetite.
"Gao Yuan, go get your brother. We must all eat together for the holidays," Uncle Gao glanced at the empty seat on his right and said to his drooling son.
The light in Gao Yuan's eyes dimmed. Reluctantly, he obeyed and went to Gao Ming's room.
Su Qian didn't need to ask to know that she had met with another obstacle at Gao Ming's place, but fortunately, Gao Ming had given Uncle Gao face today. Not long after, he walked out of the room with an impatient look on his face.
Uncle Gao only glanced at him. Although he didn't say anything, his face showed that he wasn't very happy.
Liang Qiyin, who was setting the dishes, wanted to ease the tense atmosphere at the table, so he picked up a piece of chicken and put it into Gao Ming's bowl.
"Come here, Little Ming. Your dad said you like to eat braised chicken the most, so I made it for you."
"I don't like to eat it anymore."
Gao Ming coldly moved his bowl away, and the tender chicken froze in the air.
Liang Qiyin seemed to be a little embarrassed, but fortunately, Li Zezhe reacted in time and quickly reached out his bowl to catch the chicken in her hand.
"It's okay, Auntie Qiu. Give it to me. I like it."
Liang Qiuyin smiled gently and went down the stairs. Then she sat down on the left side of Uncle Gao.
"Gao Ming, what did I teach you in the past? You should be polite when your elders give you food." In the main seat, Uncle Gao lectured with a serious expression.
"It's okay. We're all family, so there's no need to be so polite." Seeing that Uncle Gao's expression wasn't right, Liang Qiuyin quickly spoke up for Gao Ming.
Unfortunately, Gao Ming turned a blind eye to them from beginning to end, and he didn't even look Aunt Qiu in the eye. He picked up his chopsticks and started to eat his peanuts.
It didn't seem to be the first time that such a stiff situation had happened. Uncle Gao didn't do anything because Su Qian and Li Zezhe were still there.
Aunt Qiu then put some food into Su Qian's bowl and greeted her warmly. Finally, the atmosphere of the dinner became better.
During the intermission, Auntie Qiu brought up the results of the inheritance and said, "The old house has been given to my uncle. Tomorrow, Ming, Ze Zhe, and Xiao Qian will go back first."
Her gentle eyes slightly curved up, and her smile was warm and polite.
Su Qianyun carefully looked at Auntie Qiu's appearance. She was around three to five years old, and although she couldn't be considered outstanding, she was still natural and graceful, and was the type that was easy to look at.
"Uncle Gao, have you agreed to sell the old house?" Even Li Zezhe cared more about it than Gao Ming. Perhaps Gao Ming still didn't know that his second-year uncle had come to his house to make trouble that day.
Everyone knew that if the old house was given to the second-year uncle, he would sell it for gambling debts. However, Uncle Gao was much calmer than before.
"Forget it. If he wants it, then give it to him. The old locust tree can't be planted anymore." He drank the soup helplessly.
What did the old locust tree have to do with whether the old house was sold or not?
Su Qian was confused, and Li Zezhe was also confused. However, seeing that Uncle Gao had no intention of explaining, they, as outsiders, could not ask any more questions.
"By the way, Xiao Ming, I saw a lot of pictures and toys of you when you were young upstairs. I didn't know if you still wanted them, so I put them away for you." Aunt Qiu was considerate enough to speak to Gao Ming, but as expected, Gao Ming was still indifferent. He didn't want to talk to her at all.
Su Qian could see that she was desperate to get Gao Ming's approval. She didn't leave Gao Ming's side, and she didn't even have time to care about her own son. Instead, she kept trying to find a topic to talk to Gao Ming about."
"It's good to be like your mother. Both of your sons are fair and tender." Uncle Gao continued to tease her, which made Aunt Qiu roll her eyes at him. She couldn't help but feel helpless and happy.
Li Zezhe and Su Qian smiled in agreement.
"I'm not as pretty as Sister Hui when she was young. That's what you call a natural beauty."
"You..."
"Are you done talking? Who allowed you to talk about my mom?" Gao Ming suddenly threw down his bowl and chopsticks as his eyes turned cold with displeasure.
Su Qian raised her head and saw that Auntie Qiu's smile was frozen on the corner of her mouth. It was obvious that she had somehow touched Gao Ming's minefield, causing Uncle Gao's face to darken. He was about to lose his temper, but Auntie Qiu grabbed his sleeve in time.
"Zhenhui."
Auntie Qiu shook her head slightly at him, but when she looked back at Gao Ming, she was still smiling. She even lowered her voice and explained to Gao Ming," I'm sorry, Xiao Ming. I didn't mean to slander your mother. Actually, your father and I respect Sister Hui a lot. "
Gao Ming laughed. Obviously, he didn't appreciate her apology. "Did you call her Sister Hui? Stop pretending. Who are you acting for?"
"Gao Ming!"
Bang!
Suddenly, Uncle Gao, who could not stand it any longer, slammed his palm on the table, scaring everyone present.
"How dare you speak to your elders in such a manner? Get up and apologize to your aunt!" Uncle Gao stood up majestically and reprimanded Gao Ming in a commanding tone, regardless of Auntie Qiu's advice.
"What right do you have to order me around?" Gao Ming was not afraid. He even looked sideways, his heterochromia eyes filled with disdain and contempt. These words, cold and sharp as knives, undoubtedly made the precarious situation even worse.
"Zhenhui..."
"Just because I am your father!"
"Are you?" "From the day my mother died, and you were out with this woman, you were no longer my father!"
"You bastard!"
In his anger, Uncle Gao raised his hand and slapped Gao Ming's face!
There was a loud and clear sound in the brightly lit hall. Gao Ming's face slightly turned to the side, and his fair skin immediately turned red.
Su Qian and Li Zezhe got up from their seats and looked at the father and son in shock. They didn't know what to do.
Uncle Gao was in a daze as he looked at the hand he used to hit someone. Regret was written all over his face;
"Brother Gao Ming!"
Su Qian called out to him, but to no avail. Not long after, Gao Ming came out of his room with his bag on his back. He walked out of the room into the night without looking back.
She was worried. When she saw that Uncle Gao had Li Zezhe to look after him, she quickly chased after Gao Ming.
"Brother Gao Ming..."
It was a cool night outside, and the pale moonlight was shining on the fields and on the paths. Gao Ming's lonely back was walking very fast in front of him, and Su Qian was trotting behind him.
They were about a mile from the old house, and there were no lights anywhere. On either side of the path there were tall, straight trees, and between them there were wild, empty hills. Finally, Su Qian mustered up the courage to stop Gao Ming.
"Brother Gao Ming, don't be angry. Uncle Gao didn't do it on purpose." Although Su Qian knew that he wouldn't listen, she still wanted to try to comfort him.
Gao Ming shook off her hand and ignored her.
Su Qian didn't give up. She grabbed his arm again, "Where are you going so late at night?"
He turned around impatiently and was about to say something, but his black eyes suddenly stopped and looked into the distance.
"Did you hear anything else?" After a while, he asked in a deep voice.
"What?" Su Qian didn't understand. She looked around, but there was nothing but the sound of the leaves being blown by the wind.
He then returned to his original state. He turned around and continued to move forward.
Su Qian-Biang could only keep chasing him. While she was walking, she tried to calm him down, "Calm down. It is said that father and son don't hate each other. You will be fine after tonight."
"It is none of your business!"
"Brother Gao Ming..."
Just when Su Qian was at her wit's end, the figure in front of her suddenly stopped and turned around. Su Qian, who had almost bumped into him, thought that he had finally figured it out.
"Did you really not hear the other voice calling me?" He asked with a serious tone.
Su Qian-Shan felt strange. There were indeed only the two of them in the quiet countryside. What other voice could there be?
Before she could ask clearly, Gao Ming seemed to have suddenly understood something. He grabbed her hand and turned around to leave.
"Let's go!"
Su Qian was almost running away from him. The cold wind from the ground blew into her thin pants and into her skin. The sudden chill made her shiver. She didn't know what had happened to make Gao Ming so nervous.
"This place" - she pointed to the surroundings - "we've just passed it!"
Gao Ming looked around vigilantly. After a while, he replied in a low voice, "We might have met a ghost."
His clear voice added a peculiar quality to the silence of the night, and Su Qian realized that something was wrong. How could there not be the sound of insects and frogs in the fields near the summer night?
"From now on, don't say anyone's name. Don't turn around no matter what you hear." Gao Ming instructed, and then he took out a yellow paper talisman from his pocket. As he chanted an incantation, the yellow paper talisman began to float in the air.
"Follow me closely."
Su Qian followed closely behind him. She used the moonlight to feel her way forward. However, even though it was a straight path, half an hour later, they actually saw the distorted tree again!
Swish!!
The paper talisman spontaneously combusted in the air, burning into nothingness in an instant. The chilly wind in the air became even more bone-chilling!
