C13 Chapter 13

“I’m hungry!”

Whether Lingxiao was putting on an act or faking it on purpose, Lanyu wasn’t the type to get overly hung up on things or take everything so seriously. If the other person was useful, why shouldn’t he take advantage of the moment?

Lingxiao didn’t move an inch. She stayed curled up on the couch, flipping through English-language academic papers like nothing else existed.

Lanyu wasn’t angry. His handsome eyes shifted, thoughtful. Could it be… she wanted to make this real?

He immediately yanked the IV out of the back of his hand and struggled to climb out of bed.

But his whole body was weak. With a heavy thud, he suddenly tumbled off the edge of the bed and hit the floor.

Lingxiao remained calm and unbothered, as if she hadn’t heard a thing, completely absorbed in her research.

Lanyu was furious. That woman was seriously out of line!

You hurt me, and you just laugh it off…

He forced himself up from the floor, then staggered toward Lingxiao.

At that moment, the system finally couldn’t hold back: Hey, if Lanyu doesn’t get a happy ending, you’ll be punished.

At first, Lingxiao didn’t react—but the system started stirring up trouble again.

In this world, Lanyu was a full-on villain boss. Unfortunately for him, he was the illegitimate son of the wealthy Zhu family—the half-brother of Zhu Linger, who’d been raised elsewhere.

But when Lanyu was born, his mother died in childbirth. Zhu Yang was a womanizer to begin with and had no affection for this bastard son. So, at the urging of his wife, Yan Jingru, he deliberately dumped Lanyu at an orphanage and left him to fend for himself.

Lanyu suffered through hell at the orphanage, but he quickly learned to be cunning and ruthless, putting every kid who bullied him firmly in their place.

Later, a charity group came to sponsor students. Lanyu used his own methods to secure a scholarship spot. He was thrilled to finally go to school and try to walk a straight path—only for the Zhu family to have him blacklisted.

At school, Lan Yu was constantly set up and pushed out.

But he swallowed it, bit by bit.

Still, faced with the Zhu family’s arrogant bullying, he couldn’t just let it go. So he quietly built his own power base to go up against them.

The Zhu family owned a place called the Red Horse Club, catering to wealthy older women with sex and other “services.”

After graduating, Lan Yu didn’t settle into a normal nine-to-five like his classmates. Instead, he opened the Black Horse Club, offering those same wealthy women “emotional healing” and companionship.

By stealing the Zhu family’s business through the Black Horse Club, Lan Yu made them wary—and furious.

After clash after clash, the Zhu family was thrown into chaos, bleeding resources, until they finally decided to take Lan Yu out for good.

In the end, Lan Yu died in a long-planned car crash.

...

Plot received. Ling Xiao раздраженно scratched her forehead. “Xiao Qiang, what are you trying to pull?”

System: As long as you can save the hidden boss and help the villainous heartthrob find happiness... I’ll send you home!

Ling Xiao: You swear?

System: Why would I lie? What do I get out of it?

Ling Xiao took a deep breath, snapped her laptop shut, and stepped forward to haul Lan Yu upright.

But she wasn’t gentle—she squeezed the back of his IV hand hard enough to make it hurt even more.

“Hiss!” Lan Yu’s eyes watered from pure reflex. “Are you a demon? Why are you trying to kill me?”

Does this kid have a persecution complex?

Yeah—total sickly weakling.

Ling Xiao didn’t change her expression. She tossed him back onto the hospital bed, then hit the call button so a nurse could come and stick him again.

Seeing how calm she looked, a mischievous urge bubbled up in Lan Yu’s chest—impossible to hold down.

“I’m hungry! I want spicy-and-sour rice noodles!”

“...You’re recovering,” Ling Xiao replied evenly.

“I don’t care! I want it right now!”

“And if you eat it and drop dead, then what? You want me to pay? Might want to lawyer up first, just to be safe.” Ling Xiao didn’t sound convinced.

Lan Yu froze, choking on his anger.

That woman was the worst.
