C19 Chapter 19

Zhu Ling’er had already worked it out with Li Yifeng: first, take out Wang Lingxiao’s side piece. Then they’d expose that “pure, innocent” act for what it really was—and drag her and her lover through a brutal, humiliating reckoning.

That day, Lingxiao was curled up in the new place binge-watching *Game of Thrones*—legit, not some sketchy stream.

All of a sudden, a loud commotion erupted outside the front door.

Lingxiao didn’t feel like dealing with it and kept her eyes on the screen, where Daenerys and Jon Snow were going at it.

Xiaoye finished his shower in the bathroom, then grabbed a brand-new robe and wrapped it around himself.

The apartment was about 2,150 square feet—plenty of space.

Xiaoye finally had his own private bedroom. No more being crammed into that run-down “relocation” house back home.

“Hey, sis! What’s going on out there? Why’s it so loud?”

This place had top-notch security—get what you pay for.

“No idea.” Lingxiao let out a bored, perfectly composed yawn.

Xiaoye hesitated, then went to the door anyway. He peered through the peephole and saw seven or eight burly guys in black beating someone up…

Lan Yu?

He’d never liked Lan Yu.

Lan Yu was the top draw at the Black Horse club—always throwing his weight around, and it sure looked like he had someone powerful backing him.

Maybe it was just rivalry—especially when the other guy was good-looking and had connections. Hard not to feel a little bitter.

Those guys in black looked vicious—big, hard, and moving like they meant business. One look told you they weren’t just random thugs…

Not someone you wanted to mess with.

Not someone you wanted to mess with.

Muttering to himself, Xiaoye headed back to the tastefully decorated living room, crossed one leg over the other, and got ready to keep watching.

System: WARNING! The villain heartthrob is in danger!

If you don’t rescue him in time, this mission will restart! Restart! Restart!

Important things get said three times!

That’s what sci-fi books say.

Lingxiao: …

Xiaoye watched as Lingxiao snapped her laptop shut, then strode out with murder in her eyes.

Lingxiao left the front door slightly ajar, then snapped into a one-legged spinning kick, taking one of them out fast.

“Listen, you little brat! If you dare get involved, we’ll make sure you don’t walk away,” the burly man in black at the front snarled.

So that’s the threat—make sure I don’t walk away?

And they’re basically calling me a dog?

Dogs didn’t do anything wrong.

“Then do it,” Lingxiao replied evenly.

“Get her! Beat her into the ground!” the leader barked.

Five minutes later, all eight tough-looking men were sprawled on the floor.

Lingxiao planted a foot on the leader’s wrist and drove down hard.

His wrist snapped.

Sweat poured down the man’s face from the pain, but he clenched his teeth and refused to beg.

“Who sent you?” Lingxiao looked down at him, calm and unhurried, like she had all the time in the world.

No answer.

“Honestly, you don’t even have to say it. It was the Zhu family, right?”

Still nothing.

After what Zhu Ling’er pulled at the hospital—humiliating Lan Yu and then getting a brutal beating from me—there was no way she’d let it go.

Most people pick on the easy target...

Looks like I’m the hard target—even someone as arrogant as Zhu Ling’er doesn’t dare come at me directly.

System: Girl, you’re kind of full of yourself.

Maybe you’re her next target.

Lingxiao: Let her try. I’m not scared.

“Kid?” Lingxiao suddenly turned toward Lan Yu, who was leaning against the doorway.

He had a few cuts and bruises, but nothing serious.

Lan Yu flinched slightly. The girl’s voice was clear and quiet, like moonlight slipping through pine branches.

“You choose. Do we call the cops, or... give them a taste of their own medicine?”

“Don’t just stand there—this is urgent!”

Lan Yu slowly came back to himself. “Don’t get involved in this. I’ll get to the bottom of it.”

“Huh?”

After seeing how the girl had charged in, unstoppable and commanding, he actually felt… a little sad.

If only she really belonged to him.

Too bad…

Lan Yu pushed himself up against the wall, pulled out his phone, and called his men.

A moment later, a group of them rushed in and, as quickly as possible, carried the burly men in black out of the room.

Ling Xiao stood off to the side, calm as could be.

Looks like the kid isn’t useless after all—at least he’d managed to build his own network under the Zhu family’s pressure.

Lan Yu shot Ling Xiao a complicated look.

She and Li Yifeng had met and fallen in love back in college, and their bond ran deep.

Even though she was the classic Cinderella type—and Zhu Linger had been stirring up trouble—Li Yifeng had never given up on her…
