C22 I’m Becoming Mayor

Dragon Five was overjoyed to see his top student. He ignored his age and dignity, pulling Ethan into a tight hug.

“You unlucky rascal! Where have you been? Because of you, I lost my bet to Dragon Nine! I was supposed to get all ten Dragon Warriors, but I only got six! That old bastard took first place. But you’re back now—soon we’ll make Dragon Nine eat dirt!”

“Master, you’re even thinner, but you look sharper! How did you find us? How did you know we’re back?” Ethan asked excitedly.

“All Dragon Warriors have a spiritual link. As long as you’re in this world, I can sense you. But while you were gone, I felt nothing—I thought you were dead. Where were you? And where is Raymond?” Dragon Five’s tone turned sharp.

“It’s a long story. I’ll explain when Howard and Han Tao get here.” Ethan shifted uncomfortably, bothered that the Dragon Clan had planted a tracking-like bond on them. “Old Ma, you called me here for something big. Spit it out.”

Secretary Ma laughed awkwardly. “I didn’t mean to interrupt your reunion! Since it’s noon, my treat! I’ll send for your friends. Let’s feast!”

“Great! I’ll mooch off the government today!” Dragon Five joked.

“Please! We officials live on salaries! I can’t afford you! But I’ll cook for you at my place someday. Today, we’ll have the official ‘four dishes and one soup’—state standard!” Ma said.

Ethan snorted. “Spare me. Your ‘four dishes’ turn into twenty! I know your tricks. You and Master Dragon have a scheme. Out with it—I don’t lose anymore.”

Ma smiled warmly. “You’re too suspicious. It’s good news. The higher-ups have appointed you Mayor of X City, in charge of economic development.”

Spit-take!

Ethan sprayed wine all over Ma’s face. “ME? Mayor? I’m a businessman! A troublemaker! I’ll ruin the city!”

Dragon Five’s eyes glinted—he already knew.

“I’m not qualified! I can’t do it! I’ll be a disaster! You’re setting me up to fail!” Ethan shook his head wildly.

Ma sighed. “I know you hate politics. But this is an order—from the government and the Dragon Clan. You have no choice. The world is changing. Old clans are rising again. Foreign forces are meddling. You’re the center of it all. We need you mayor to draw them out.”

Dragon Five spoke coldly. “Ethan, you don’t get to refuse. You’re a Dragon Warrior. Your strange power has awakened every hidden clan and shadow force. They all watch you. Being mayor forces them into the open. And your ‘unkillable’ talent makes you perfect bait.”

Ethan cursed inwardly. He was being used as bait again.

“Fine! I’ll be mayor. But I’ll mess everything up so bad you’ll regret it!”

Ma and Dragon Five sighed in relief. They toasted him.

Ethan snapped. He drank wildly, furious at being manipulated.

Later that night, drunk and reckless, Ethan jumped into his custom German supercar and peeled out.

Howard and Han Tao screamed from the passenger seat. “Slow down! You’ll kill us!”

Ethan laughed maniacally, speeding through downtown. Police sirens blared behind him—but their cars were hopelessly slow.

A flashy yellow sports car pulled up next to him. A red-haired kid inside yelled: “Race you! 50,000 yuan bet!”

Ethan grinned. “You’re on! Finish line at the police station!”

Howard and Han Tao bailed and jumped out.

The race exploded into motion. Ethan weaved through traffic, the red-haired kid right on his tail. Every cop in the city joined the chase.

Ethan slammed into the police station parking lot, threw open the door, and put his hands up.

The red-haired kid skidded in right after him—only to be swarmed by cops.

“Nice job, you idiot,” Ethan laughed.

The chief of the station was Dana.

She stared at Ethan, stunned. “What did you do now?!”

The red-haired kid was defiant. “I’m Niu Huang! My uncle is Secretary Ma! My dad is the provincial deputy secretary! Let me go!”

Dana paled. She called Ma immediately.

In the holding cell, Niu Huang bragged. “I’ll get out in five minutes. And that police chief chief? She’s hot. I’m gonna hit on her.”

Ethan’s smile turned icy. “You just made a mistake.”

He punched Niu Huang in the face, then kicked him until he was unrecognizable.

“You messed with the wrong guy.”

When Ma arrived, he saw his nephew swollen and bruised.

“Chief Dana! Your people abused him! This is illegal!”

Ethan stepped forward, grinning. “Actually, I beat him. He talked trash about the law, disrespected officers, and harassed your chief. I was enforcing justice.”

Niu Huang screamed. “Uncle! Punish him!”

Ma’s face turned purple. He lunged at Ethan—but stopped short.

He knew Ethan was goading him into a fight, just to get out of being mayor.

So Ma turned around and slapped his own nephew as hard as he could.

“You idiot! You disgrace! This is the future mayor! You insulted him? I’m ashamed of you!”

Niu Huang stared in disbelief.

Ethan clapped. “Well done! But if you’re still angry, I can beat him again for you!”

Ma’s vision went black.

He collapsed, fainting dead away.

Ethan sighed.

“Great. Tomorrow I become mayor. Today I put the party secretary in the hospital.”

This was going to be a disaster.
