On a hot Monday afternoon, I got a call from my mum. She wanted me to come to California immediately because she found out that she had a kidney problem.

I knew I had to go home immediately. I had not been in California since I left, but over the years, I made sure that my parents and my younger one visited me in Los Angeles twice a year for one week. It was always during the holidays
