C8 EIGHT

After all that happened that night, things didn't get any better between me and Aliyu.

He doesn't come back home sometimes till around 2:00am and when he did, he was always drunk.

He turned our house to a clubhouse and even went to the extent of turning me to the club bartender.

I Cook for him everyday, but he doesn't eat.

"You think I will ever eat the garbage you call food HELL NO I am not ready to die" he always say

"and don't even think of stopping the cooking" He will add and walk away.

I woke up today feeling dizzy,feverish and having severe headache, but I still had to do the house chores.

When I was done I went to the living room to watch because Aliyu wasn't at home, and before you know it I dozed off.

I heard someone knocking the front door,I couldn't get up to open the door because I was feeling weak and already shivering.

From where I was lying down I shouted

"The door is open" thinking it was the devil and I was ready for the worst.

Though my voice wasn't that loud and I didn't have enough energy to shout louder, my voice was audible enough for the person to hear.

The person entered and it was Saudah, my sister in-law.

When she saw me shivering she ran to me and asked me what was wrong with me.

"Saudah,I woke up feeling feverish and dizzy today"I said.

"I will call and inform brother right away"

"No, don't worry I will get better, it's not that serious"

"No way, you are seriously shivering"

"I promise I will be fine,I just need some rest"

"Okay then, but let me call Mom"

Without waiting for my reply she dailed her mom's number.

She told her I was sick, it was on speaker so I could hear their conversation.

"Did you call Aliyu?" She asked

"No mom,she said I shouldn't call him, she said she will be fine"

"Pass the phone to her"I heard Aliyu's mom saying over the phone.

"She can hear you it's on speaker" Saudah said.

"Indo how are you and how are you feeling?" She asked

"Mom, I'm fine and it's not that serious you need not to worry, I just need some rest and I will be okay"

"Saudah is taking you to hospital right now, so get up and get ready" She ordered, not giving room for any argument

"Okay Mom" I obeyed.

I got ready and before you know it we were at the hospital.

I explained to the doctor how I was feeling.

He asked me some questions, questions like the last time i saw my period, after that he said I should go to the lab for beta HCG test.

In few hours the result came out, when I saw the lab scientist approaching us, My heart was already beating very fast,I don't really know what the test was for but for the doctor to ask me the last time I saw my period made me scared because I know what that means

"Mrs indo Aliyu right?" The scientist asked me which I answered with a "yes sir"

"Your result is out and I have Posted it, so you can go meet the doctor"

"Okayy!thank you so much"I said and walked to the doctor's office

When I got to the doctor's office he was with another patient so I stayed outside praying it wasn't what I'm thinking it would be.

Few minutes later, the patient was out.

I entered the office and greeted the doctor once more before giving my hospital card to him in order to search for my hospital number on his computer, I kept praying silently.

"Congratulations Mrs aliyu, you are three weeks pregnant" His voice came.

I was heartbroken and confused

"Congratulations" he said again.

"Thank you" I said to the doctor with a fake smile on my face.

He continued by telling me what I should do and what I shouldn't.

"You shouldn't eat much pineapple, because it contains bromelain, which softens the cervix and starts untimely labour contractions,which could result to miscarriage. Pregnant women can take moderate amounts of pineapples during the early stages of pregnancy.

When pineapple is consumed in heavy amounts (7 to 10 whole fruits), it might cause bleeding" He explained.

"You should also avoid much consumption of sesame seeds, crabs, drumsticks, Aloe Vera, unpasteurized milk and cheese, raw diary products and caffeine because it could also cause miscarriage".

"You need to consume extra protein and calcium

in other to meet the needs of the growing fetus,more legumes, sweet potato,egg, broccoli and fish liver oil"

That was how he kept blabbering, while I on the other hand was their thinking of a different thing.

"I have prescribed some drugs for you, you can go to the pharmacy and get them"

"Thank you very much doctor" I replied with a smile before walking to the door.

I met Saudah outside waiting for me.

"Saudah, I'm so sorry for keeping you"

"Don't worry, it's nothing, besides I have nothing doing " she said smiling

"Okay then, let's go home" I said.

"So how was it? What did the doctor say"?

I just looked at her, tears threatening to fall from my eyes, which I didn't want her to notice but she did anyway.

"What happened? did i say anything offensive?" She enquired.

"No" I just shook my head.

She noticed the paper in my hand and collected it.

After reading it she started screaming, she was beyond happy someone will think she just won a lottery.

Saudah is 20 years old but she respects and calls me "Addah" because I'm her brother's wife and we look like age mates because of the size of my body

Immediately after she finished jumping and shouting she picked her phone and called her mom.

She too was also very happy, she said we should come to the family house(Aliyu's parent house) for a small party.

After we went to the hospital pharmacy to get my drugs we went straight to Alhaji Abdulmaleek's mansion, on getting there, I saw few of Aliyu's family members that I didn't get to meet, and most of them where happy for me.

No one could see through my pains, may be if my uncle was here he would have done so.

The way they were all happy you will think this is the first grandchild they are getting.

None of them told aliyu about the current situation,they said and I quote

"You should be the one to suprise him when you get home"

After they were done with the mini party Ummi took me to her room, she gave me lots of gifts and told the driver to take me home.

In less than 30 minutes I got home, I saw aliyu's car parked.

The living room was dark so I thought he was already asleep, I was about to go to my room when the bulbs were turned on.

"Where are you coming from?" He asked.

"I am coming from Ummi's house am sorry I didn't get to inform you"

"So you have started growing wings right? you even have the guts to go out of this house without my permission,

who even took you there?"

"Saudah came here earlier this morning, I was sick so Ummi told her to take me to the hospital and from there we went home"

"You have started feigning sickness huh?"

I just ducked my head to avoid his gaze as I handed the result to him.

"What is this?" He asked without reading it.

I just found myself telling him that

"It's ummi that said I should give you"

If I told him it a result of a test I took in the hospital,I know he won't even look at it talkmore of collecting it to read.

He will only say"do I look like I care about your well being?you can go and die for all I care

He collected the paper and read it, he then looked at me as if trying to analyse something.

"What is this?" He asked,

I only looked at him not knowing what next to sat,all I want right now is to go to my room and cry my ass out

"Get ready tomorrow by 8:00am,we are going to abort the baby. I don't need a child now, and even if I do, I won't start a family with you"

I just stood there with a blank mind, I didn't even know what to think.
