C5 The Change Was Really Big
"Tiantian, why didn't you tell me sooner about your amazing friend? Hurry up and introduce us!" Wei Ya said, casually brushing her hair back with a pure smile.
Tiantian secretly rolled her eyes, thinking to herself how much things have changed.
"This is Zitao, and this is Wei Ya," she introduced them offhandedly. Both names were well-known in their circle, so just mentioning them was enough to convey their status.
Wei Ya understood immediately from Tiantian's introduction. She thought, no wonder Tiantian could afford to be here; she must have found herself a wealthy friend.
Zitao was publicly known as the adopted son of the Ning family, and even though Wei Ya knew her true identity as the Ning family's illegitimate daughter, she didn't shy away from getting close to Zitao, clearly interested in him.
Wei Ya then called over the waiter and ordered two coffees, deliberately leaving Tiantian out, hoping to embarrass her. "Tiantian, I guess you're not into coffee, right? What would you like to drink?" Her words implied that Tiantian wasn't familiar with such high-end things.
"No problem, I'll have a Blue Mountain," Tiantian said, waving the waiter over, ignoring Wei Ya's remark. She certainly wasn't going to let Wei Ya have the upper hand.
[Ping—Task Reminder: Make Zitao like Wei Ya. Task duration: 10 minutes. Reward: 5 Karma Points]
The system's voice echoed in Tiantian's mind again, but the task made her a bit frustrated. What kind of mission was this, making Zitao like Wei Ya? Was this some kind of joke? And what was with the ten-minute limit and the 5 Karma Points?
But she couldn't defy the system; she valued her life too much to risk being erased.
Wei Ya's expression faltered slightly. Who would have thought this girl would know about something as fancy as Blue Mountain coffee? Wasn't she supposed to have grown up in the slums?
Just as she was about to lose her temper, Tiantian stood up again.
"Sorry, something came up, and I have to leave. Zitao, why don't you let my sister keep you company? She's quite the lady, generous and well-informed. I'm sure you'll have a great conversation."
Tiantian had already guessed why Zitao sought her out—it was likely because he lost money at the casino and needed help with his debts. She wasn't about to sit there and let him take advantage of her.
Without waiting for a response, Tiantian grabbed her bag and left.
Wei Ya was quite pleased with Tiantian's initiative, especially since Tiantian had praised her so highly. Zitao initially wanted to stop Tiantian, but when he heard the words "generous and well-informed," he calmed down.
So, Tiantian made a quick exit, leaving Wei Ya and Zitao behind. Later, Zitao and Wei Ya spent an entire afternoon chatting at South Mountain, just as Tiantian had predicted, and they hit it off. As for Zitao borrowing money from Tiantian, he managed to charm Wei Ya into giving him all the cash she had on her. Not only that, she was under the impression that Zitao was interested in her, and she was quite pleased with herself!
By the time Tiantian found out about all this, it was already in the past.
Life continued at a leisurely pace. Wei Ya was busy getting closer to Zitao, and Zitao started to find more and more admirable qualities in Wei Ya, gradually developing feelings for her. Although Wei Ya could be a bit spoiled and proud, she was, after all, a daughter raised by the Wei family for over a decade, with genuine etiquette, education, and insight. Zitao needed a girlfriend like her, so two weeks later, he called to end his relationship with Tiantian and began a whirlwind romance with Wei Ya.
One day, Wei Ya and Zitao went out on a date. After breakfast, Wei Sucheng stood in front of Tiantian's room, deep in thought. Over the past few days, he noticed that his sister had changed significantly. She no longer seemed as crude or timid as before. Instead, she had become somewhat mysterious, spending most of her time in her room, engaged in activities unknown to others, and not interacting much with anyone.
But... she really didn't seem to be acting withdrawn.
*Knock, knock, knock—*
"Tiantian, are you in there?" Wei Sucheng's voice came from outside the door. Wei Tiantian quickly put down her book and got up to open the door.
Recently, she discovered that the system she was using had a built-in space. She often explored it, finding various skill courses and completing tasks to earn some karma points. She had been spending her days learning within the system, always with a book in hand whenever she had a moment.
"What's up?" Wei Tiantian asked, surprised to see Wei Sucheng. Since that day, even though his attitude toward her had improved slightly, he rarely spoke to her. It was unusual for him to come to her room like this.
"Did you get lost?" she asked, genuinely puzzled. It was reasonable for her to think so since her room was just two doors down from Wei Ya's. She couldn't believe Wei Sucheng would come looking for her.
"No, I came to tell you that school starts again tomorrow," Wei Sucheng replied. Seeing that Wei Tiantian's attitude wasn't the friendliest, he kept it brief and headed downstairs after delivering the message.
Wei Tiantian stood there, holding the door frame, feeling a bit speechless. School? What was going on? She sifted through her memories and realized that the original owner of her body had taken a long leave and then withdrawn from school. Wei Dongcheng had transferred her to the same school as Wei Ya and even arranged for them to be in the same class to help them bond.
Tomorrow is the first day of school. Just thinking about it makes Wei Ya feel uneasy. She has always disliked school—too many rules and the people are so complicated. It's like a mini society, but even more restrictive.
Despite her reluctance, she knows she has to pack her things and get ready for tomorrow. With a sigh, Wei Tiantian puts down her book and starts gathering her few belongings. She hasn't been with the Wei family for long, so her luggage is sparse, not to mention the system she carries with her.
Wei Dongcheng has arranged for her to attend Cherry Blossom University, the best in the city. Known for its rigorous academics, it's a prestigious school where students must live on campus and can only go home once a week. With top-notch faculty and students from prominent families, the university contributes significantly to society each year.
By the time Wei Tiantian finishes packing, it's nearly lunchtime. She decides to skip her usual system study session and heads downstairs for lunch. For the first time, she goes down before eating. In the living room, Wei Dongcheng and Wei Ya are sitting on the couch, both looking a bit tense.
As soon as Wei Tiantian comes downstairs, she catches their attention.
