C8 Cut off Half of It

"I know I was born to a prostitute, but that doesn't mean you gave me everything!" Wei Ya couldn't take it anymore and lashed out at Wei Tiantian.

Completely unaware that this was still in Wei Tiantian's class, Wei Tiantian covered her mouth and chuckled. Just when she was feeling defeated, she spent five merit points on a one-time tool that turned Wei Ya's mind to mush.

And just like that, the clueless Wei Ya lost to Wei Tiantian.

[Task completed, reward: 20 merit points]

"Why only 20 merit points? Didn't it just say 50?" Wei Tiantian was in disbelief. Could the system be tricking her?

The system heard Wei Tiantian's thoughts too.

[Because you used the system's tool to win, the reward was cut in half.]

So that's how it was, Wei Tiantian thought.

Since that incident, no one whispered behind Wei Tiantian's back about her being raised by a prostitute. Instead, they gossiped about Wei Ya being born to one.

Wei Tiantian was quite pleased with this outcome, though she didn't care for everyone at school. Everyone had their own agendas, making them unsuitable for friendship.

Wei Ya only had a few decent friends around her. Even if she was born to a prostitute, she still lived with the Wei family, and it didn't stop them from hanging out with her.

On her way home, Tiantian noticed that Wei Ya had already taken the car back and hadn't let the driver wait long. It was clear the driver either followed Wei Ya's instructions or simply forgot about Tiantian.

[Help the elderly woman, wake her up, and earn 10 virtue points]

"Elderly woman? Where would I find someone like that to help?" Tiantian wondered, looking around.

Suddenly, a car sped past her. If she hadn't moved quickly, it would have hit her. Just ahead, an elderly woman wasn't so lucky. The car's side mirror clipped her waist, causing her to fall to the ground.

The driver didn't stop and just kept going. What a reckless driver, Tiantian thought.

She immediately ran to the woman's side. The woman was unconscious and clearly in pain. Tiantian knew she had to call an ambulance first and deal with everything else later. She quickly dialed the number: "Is this the hospital? Please send an ambulance quickly; there's an injured person here."

Before Tiantian could explain the situation, the person on the other end hung up, dismissing her with, "You must be crazy, wrong number."

"Wrong number?" Tiantian muttered to herself, glancing at the phone screen. It wasn't the emergency number she had dialed. How could this be? She was sure she had pressed 911, but somehow it wasn't connecting to the hospital.

Though puzzled, Tiantian tried again, only to find that no matter how many times she dialed, it never resulted in 911. There was only one explanation: something was wrong with the system.

[Please quickly help the elderly woman regain consciousness.]

The system prompted Tiantian again. Left with no choice, she tried pressing the pressure point under the woman's nose, but no matter how hard she pressed, the woman remained in visible distress, leaving Tiantian at a loss.

Suddenly, a man appeared beside her, someone she had never seen before. Yet, he wore the same school uniform as Tiantian, indicating he was a fellow student.

"Are you serious? You should have called an ambulance before trying to help her. Can't you see she's in pain?" he snapped, quickly lifting the woman's head.

Startled by his outburst, Tiantian was at a loss for words. It wasn't that she didn't want to call for help; she just couldn't get through.

After propping up the woman's head, the man began to gently pat her back, once, twice, three times.

Finally, the elderly woman's complexion began to change. The man noticed Wei Tiantian still standing there, looking dissatisfied. "Rub the old lady's hands to warm them up. She'll be fine once her hands are warm."

With that, he passed the elderly woman to Wei Tiantian. She didn't hesitate and took the woman's cold hands in hers.

"Cough, cough!" At last, the elderly woman woke up and looked at Wei Tiantian. "Young lady, did you save me? You're such a kind-hearted student!" As she regained consciousness, her energy quickly returned, making Wei Tiantian wonder if the woman had been faking it.

"I, it wasn't me, I just..." she started to say, intending to point to the man, but he had already disappeared.

[Task complete, reward: 10 merit points]

Wei Tiantian couldn't help but think the system was sometimes clueless, considering she hadn't actually saved the woman, yet it was now her victory. Not that she minded, as long as the system didn't turn against her.

"Ma'am, do you need anything else? Would you like me to walk you home?" Wei Tiantian asked, noticing the woman was dressed modestly, likely from an ordinary family.

The elderly woman shook her head. "No need, dear. I'm usually in good health; it's just that sometimes I get short of breath and faint."

After the elderly lady insisted multiple times, Tiantian decided not to insist on walking her home. By the time Tiantian walked back home, it was already evening. Wei Dongcheng, noticing her return, seemed a bit displeased. "You're part of the Wei family now. Why didn't you take the family car? Do you want people to think we're poor?"

Tiantian was puzzled by Dongcheng's sudden dissatisfaction, but when she saw the smirk on Wei Ya's face, she understood why.

"Come on, Dad, Tiantian probably just wanted to go on a date. You wouldn't believe how many male friends she made at school today," Wei Ya said, stirring the pot.

Tiantian glared at Wei Ya, but it was pointless.

"You're still so young, and you're already thinking about marriage? Don't take after your adoptive mother, chasing after every guy you see. Remember, you're a daughter of the Wei family," Dongcheng fumed.

Tiantian simply acknowledged with an "Oh" and went to her room. She didn't mind what Dongcheng said, knowing he meant well. Wei Ya, on the other hand, had different intentions.

Lying on her bed, Tiantian began to recall the man she met earlier. Thinking back, his handsome appearance and the integrity in his eyes were exactly what captivated young girls.

"Tiantian, come down for dinner!" the servant called out to Wei Tiantian.

Here, there's a subtle difference: when the servant addresses Wei Ya, they always add "Miss" after her name, but with Wei Tiantian, it's just her first name.
