C13 Chapter 13

Duu Luo let a smug little smile slip in a spot where her master couldn’t see.

Sure, acting cute was kind of shameless—but it worked. From now on, whenever she needed him to do something, she’d use that trick. Chances were it would keep working every time.

Her master stood nearby, unhurriedly undoing his clothes. He took off his outer layer and set it aside. Only when he started removing the shirt underneath did Duu Luo finally react, snapping both hands over her eyes.

“Master, why are you taking your clothes off in front of your favorite disciple? That’s so embarrassing,” Duu Luo said, peeking through the gaps between her fingers at her master’s… seriously tempting physique.

“If I don’t take it off, how are you supposed to bandage me?” Her master turned his head and looked at Duu Luo, who was putting on a show from a short distance away. “If you were really embarrassed, you wouldn’t be leaving gaps to spy on me.”

“Ugh, Master, you don’t have to say it that bluntly. You’re making me embarrassed,” Duu Luo said. Since he’d already caught her, she just looked openly—he was her master, after all. No reason not to.

“In the cabinet.”

Her master walked over and sat in the chair by the table, then pointed at the wooden cabinet beside him.

“Mm, okay.”

Duu Luo giggled and pulled out the medicine and supplies he needed from the cabinet.

Standing in front of him, she reached out and untied the knot in the bandage, her cheeks faintly pink. “Master, can you tell me why you wear that mask?”

“Not everything needs a reason. Just do what you’re supposed to do.” Clearly, he didn’t want to answer.

“Master, you don’t take off that mask because you’re too gorgeous, and you’re afraid your disciple will fall for you, right?” Duu Luo pouted so hard she could’ve hung a kettle from her lip. “Don’t worry, I already like someone. So even if you’re unbelievably handsome, I’m not going to drool over your looks.”

“What did you say?” Hearing Duu Luo say that, her master was clearly surprised. His whole body stiffened for a moment, then, before she could even react, he slipped back into his usual expression. “Who is he?”

“He’s Boyan.” Duu Luo looked a little embarrassed as she said it, her cheeks faintly pink. “When I went out today, I don’t even know what happened—someone shoved me into a little room. When I tried to leave, Boyan barged in. I ended up saving him, and somehow it just turned into him moving in with us.”

Because the gauze was wrapped in layers, Duu Luo had to lean in close to undo it—so close she could hear his breathing.

More than once, she brushed up against him, and her heart started racing for no reason.

What Duu Luo didn’t know was that while she was talking, her master’s hands had clenched tight, his knuckles turning white.

“I’ve heard of him. He’s not an easy man to deal with. Since you like him, there are things you need to understand clearly—don’t let yourself get hurt.” In the end, her master swallowed the rest of what he wanted to say. If this girl liked him, what right did he have to interfere? He might be her master, but when it came to matters of the heart, he couldn’t decide for her. All he could do was hope the man she chose would treat her well. “He’s someone who can make something of himself. He won’t be much worse than I am. And people who succeed are often far more ruthless than those who fail.”
