C15 Chapter 15
“Congratulations, Player, on completing the side quest: Bandage Your Master. Here’s your reward hint: If you want to win a man over, start with his stomach. Boyan doesn’t like heavy, greasy food, and he doesn’t like scallions or anything like that. You also receive one Chef Genius trait. Looking forward to your next performance.”
Duu Luo blinked a couple of times, clearly not getting it. That was the reward? She’d swallowed her pride and bandaged her master, and all she got was a list of what Boyan liked and didn’t like?
What a rip-off.
“Whatever. A hint is better than nothing.” Duu Luo was still pretty pumped. Jiuyou said she’d gotten a Chef Genius trait, which meant she could finally test it—see what kind of good food these hands of hers could actually make. “Besides, I’ve never cooked before.”
With that in mind, Duu Luo bounced her way into the kitchen.
The moment she stepped inside, everyone in the kitchen panicked.
The body’s previous owner had come into the kitchen before, but not only had she failed to make a single dish—she’d nearly blown the place up.
“Miss, this really isn’t where you should be,” the head kitchen auntie said as she hurried over, bending at the waist, her hands trembling slightly. “It’s smoky in here, and the grease in the air isn’t good for you. Once the food is ready, you can eat in the main hall.”
“What’s there to be scared of? Last time I almost blew up the kitchen—it was an accident.” Duu Luo grinned and patted Mrs. Lau on the shoulder. “This time I’ve leveled up. I’m here to see if I can actually make something delicious. Don’t worry, I’m not going to blow up the kitchen again.”
Mrs. Lau’s face twitched. Then she decided she’d better report this to the master of the house—just in case something happened and she ended up taking the blame. With that, she hurried out.
Duu Luo realized she seemed to have some kind of special ability now. Maybe it was the perk that came with the Chef Genius trait.
Duu Luo glanced at the eggs, and dish names immediately popped into her head—soft-boiled eggs and the like—along with step-by-step instructions for how to make them.
Every time Duu Luo looked at a different dish, the same thing happened.
So what did she have to worry about? She was basically a chef now. What dish could possibly stump her?
Thinking that, Duu Luo grew even more excited.
The maids and servants around her all looked terrified—one of the servants even brought over a bucket of water!
But Duu Luo, completely absorbed in figuring out what to cook, didn’t notice any of their expressions.
Meanwhile, after Mrs. Lau told Duu Luo’s brother, father, and mother, all three of them looked like they couldn’t believe what they were hearing. Then they hurried toward the kitchen with Mrs. Lau.
As he walked, Duu Gu kept talking. “Did something happen to my sister? Is she that upset? She’s actually trying to cook.”
The moment Duu Gu stepped out the door, he thought of the teenage boy his sister had brought home earlier. His brows knit together, and he called Boyan to come along too.
“She’s never done anything like this in her life, and now she’s suddenly decided to cook.” Duu Luo’s mother shook her head, heart aching. Could something really have happened? If there was a problem, she should’ve told her parents instead of bottling it up and running off to cook. What if something went wrong? “Please don’t let anything happen.”
“What’s going on? She’s just cooking, isn’t she?” Boyan couldn’t wrap his head around it. Duu Luo’s family was making such a big deal out of it—she was just going to cook. Why were they this worried?
