C8 Chapter 8
“Bro, what are you even talking about? What do you mean I kidnapped some innocent guy? I’m a grown woman—how would I be kidnapping anybody? If we’re talking about kidnapping, it’d be those men trying to snatch up an innocent woman like me.”
Duu Luo wasn’t about to take the fall for that.
Boyan, standing beside her, was just as floored by the way this family talked. He couldn’t help laughing.
He figured if he didn’t say something soon, they might really start believing he’d been kidnapped. Besides, if anyone was going to kidnap him, Miss Duu would have to actually be capable of pulling it off.
Still… this family didn’t quite match what he’d heard about them out in the world.
Before Boyan could get a word in, Duu Luo blurted out, impatient as ever.
“I would never do something that low. If I like someone, I’ll just go for it—why would I need to kidnap him?” Duu Luo shot her brother a look full of disdain, like she was saying, Do I look that shameless to you? “Bro, you have no idea how nasty the Lin family is. They were bullying my buddy. He was defending himself, and when their people couldn’t beat him, they tried to kill him. I stepped in because it was the right thing to do. That’s not kidnapping some innocent guy.”
“Ahem…” The old lady cleared her throat, a little embarrassed, then walked up to Duu Luo with her cane. “You child… when are you going to act like a proper young lady? Calling a man your ‘buddy’ and acting like you’re one of the guys—what kind of look is that? If you keep this up, how are you ever going to get married? You should call him ‘big brother,’ understand?”
“I’m not calling him my brother. That whole big brother–little sister thing is the worst.” Duu Luo muttered, but Boyan, standing nearby, heard every word clearly. “I’m not going to end up alone. If someone likes me, he’ll naturally marry me.”
“Alright, alright—enough.” The old man cleared his throat, then said to Duu Gu and Duu Luo, “Miss Duu, you and your brother go get things arranged.”
Once the old man spoke, nobody dared argue. Duu Luo had no choice—she tugged on Boyan’s sleeve and followed behind her brother.
Duu Gu settled Boyan into the room next to his own, then found two people to handle Boyan’s meals and daily needs. After that, he grabbed his sister by the arm and led her outside.
Once they were out the door, Duu Gu finally couldn’t hold it in anymore.
“What exactly is going on between you and Boyan? Why are you so close to him?” Duu Gu frowned as he questioned his sister, worry showing in his eyes. “You’re a girl—how can you act like this?”
“What’s my relationship with him?” Duu Luo thought for a moment, then answered her brother. “My relationship with him is that I like him. What else would it be? It’s not like I’d just drag some random guy home for no reason.”
“Duu Luo!” Duu Gu was getting angry—his sister’s attitude was driving him up the wall. “You’ve heard of him. You know what kind of person he is. He’s a small-time punk—no ambition, no prospects. He doesn’t have parents, and half the time he can barely feed himself. If you marry him, are you going to be out on the street begging with him?”
Duu Luo stuck out her tongue. Of course she wouldn’t be begging if she married him. These NPCs wouldn’t know who she really was—but she did. She was the one playing the game, after all.
