Admetos

I was on my way to my father's office when I was side tracked by Alastair .

' Admetos we need to talk as soon as possible . I sense danger . ' he said to him cutting to the chase .

When Alastair sensed danger, he meant real danger and Admetos heart jumped upon hearing this .

' Can you give me a few minutes to attend my father ? I will be with you shortly . ' I replied all business as usual . He nodded his head and walked in the direction of my office .

I took a deep breath, mentally preparing myself for what my father was about to say before I went in . My father's office was pristine . It was twice the size of mine and we replaced and updated everything there every six months . He has oakwood polished tables, chairs and shelves . My father has always loved art . He was an artist at a time in his life . Therefore the room was filled with various paintings and artworks . Then my mother's pictures and mine were on his table . He acted human sometimes, much to my surprise .

He was sitting on his chair looking over some papers .

' Good morning Father . ' I called then bowed my head a bit .

' Good morning Admetos . You can have your seat . ' he replied without looking up from his papers .

I sat in front of him and clenched my fists together . I hated that I was scared of whatever news he had to deliver but that was how it has always been for me .

' Your mother and I agreed to make you second beta after the mating ceremony . ' he started and I stared at him in shock . I recovered quickly as he continued .

' With that comes a few responsibilities . You will be dealing with some matters that requires a lot of patience . This is just to test and teach you . I hope you understand ? ' he finished and stared into my eyes . I knew he did that to gauge my reaction . My father at a hundred and twenty years has not aged that much . He looked like he was forty . Our people aged slowly but his was different . He still had everything . The agility, power and speed . I envied him . I wanted to be like him .

' I understand and I am ready . ' I replied quietly .

' Very good . You can leave . Be back at the end of the day . I will explain your responsibilities to you . ' he said and turned his head back to his papers .

' Alastair senses danger . ' I informed him .

He looked up this time understanding the importance . Then he jerked his head in the direction of the door .

' Go see to it then and give me a report when you are back . '

I rose from the chair and walked briskly out of his office .

Alastair was already waiting outside . He pulled me and we went into my office together .

' It is an Epsilon . It is in the pack and it is not taking any time to move around . ' he said immediately we entered the office .

' What ? ' I replied surprised .

Everyone knew it was rare for an Epsilon to turn up in the pack .

An Epsilon is a werewolf whom sorrow has allowed the wolf instincts to supercede the human mind and it was infectious .

Alastair's enhanced danger sense could not allow him to doubt him .

' What do we do now ? ' he asked pacing .

' We track it and capture it . Father already gave me permission . Do you have a scent ? ' I replied moving to the door to gather the trackers .

' I do . It is female . ' he said then followed him out of the office .

' Then you can lead us . ' I replied as I went into Basil's office - my father's beta .

' We need trackers and Epsilon is on lose . ' I said quickly .

He looked surprised for a second but he replied quietly ' Of Course . '

Alastair and I went outside with few trackers trailing behind us .

We took off our clothes seeing as we have to be in our wolf forms in order to track it .

Then we transformed . Changing was never painful for us as some human movies claimed it was . Changing had a divine feeling . It made us feel free . I changed into a mixture of grey and black wolf and Alastair was a big light brown colored wolf . I was taller than him even in my wolf form . He led us towards the direction of the scent and we followed him .

' Should we do a perimeter check first ? ' I asked mind linking him .

' Yes that is wise . ' he replied then I ran forward and he protected my flank and we did a perimeter check .

We were almost finished with the circle we were running in when I caught a scent . Blood .

Alastair ran forward this time . We saw the Epsilon . A she wolf but a very big one with a complete black fur and she had blood trailing down her mouth . Five wolves were in the snow wounded . She already infected them . She looked up at us and when she caught sight of myself and Alastair, she ran .

' Call for back up and capture the infected ones . Do not let them get away . ' I instructed the three trackers that came with us . Then Alastair and I ran after the Epsilon but she was faster . Unusually fast and we lost her . She also masked her scent by rolling in the snow . Alastair and I went back to the pack house .

My father was already waiting at the front door .

' You lost her didn't you? ' it was a statement not a question . He was rubbing my defeat in my face .

We changed back to our human forms and some guards passed us a pair of jeans .

Then I looked into my father's eyes .

' We will find her . ' I vowed .
