C49 A Newbie Who Just Entered the Sect

Chen Jingfu drove swiftly yet with remarkable stability.

Upon Lee Yu's arrival at the scene, he noticed several individuals who appeared to be police officers conducting an investigation of the nearby surveillance equipment.

Lee Yu steered clear of them. The girl who had called him came running out as soon as she spotted him; she had been at the dinner table the previous day and was on good terms with Huang Xiu.

Earlier that day, Huang Xiu hadn't returned home for lunch, so she and the girl had ventured off campus to grab a bite. But on their way back to school, a van abruptly pulled up and snatched Huang Xiu inside. During the struggle, several items, including her cell phone, were dropped. After reporting the incident to the police, the girl had the presence of mind to call Lee Yu.

"It's likely just an ordinary person," Chen Jingfu commented.

A martial artist wouldn't have been so clumsy, nor would they have allowed Huang Xiu the opportunity to resist.

"Thanks for your help. You should head back to school," Lee Yu instructed the girl. As an ordinary student unrelated to the incident, there was no point in her staying after the information had been gathered.

...

"With all the surveillance around, they wouldn't get far by car. They're bound to switch vehicles or proceed on foot," Lee Yu mused, though he was still without a lead. He was convinced that the act was indeed perpetrated by an ordinary person.

He had specifically come to check for any residual spiritual energy, suspecting a covert power at play on Blue Star, possibly linked to the world of cultivation. This suspicion was fueled by the unintentional disclosures from Chen Chengde during the auction.

"Do you know of any shady forces operating around here?" Lee Yu inquired.

Chen Jingfu, understanding the implication, furrowed her brow in thought before responding, "This area falls under the control of Black Dog. He..."

Lee Yu cut her off before she could finish, "Does that include this spot?"

"It does," Chen Jingfu confirmed with a nod.

"Then it's him. Take me to him," Lee Yu decided. Every minute wasted increased the risk of harm to Huang Xiu.

Moreover, the timing was too coincidental, occurring right after the auction. Lee Yu was certain that this was the key to understanding the situation, and it left him feeling deeply frustrated.

If something had gone wrong...

He shook his head, trying to clear his thoughts. Panicking now was pointless. If the culprit was a regular person, then it was likely that others in the underworld nearby would have some knowledge.

Chen Jingfu drove recklessly fast, even running several red lights before stopping at a nondescript building.

"Black Dog's main gig is overseeing operations and collecting money. He and his crew hang out here during the day. They're a brutal bunch," Chen Jingfu offered a brief explanation, sharing the local dynamics with Lee Yu.

So, there's not a single good soul in this building, Lee Yu mused, eyeing the three-story structure and pursing her lips.

Five disheveled youths lounged by the entrance, several sporting tattoos on their bare skin. Spotting a stunning woman parking nearby, they whistled and chuckled with suggestive undertones.

Chen Jingfu's brows knitted in annoyance. Before she could react, Lee Yu was already approaching them.

"Is your boss around?" Lee Yu asked with an innocent smile, focusing on a yellow-haired young man—the only one among them without ink on his skin.

"Who the hell are you to ask for Brother Dog?"

"Think you're someone special? Move along, don't block the path."

"Heh, let that chick come over and entertain us, then we'll talk."

The others chimed in before the yellow-haired man could respond, emboldened by Lee Yu's refined appearance, which seemed too gentle for the streets.

Lee Yu's eyes narrowed as he regarded the men who had spoken. They might have looked formidable with their muscular builds, likely honed for brawling, but to him, they were all show and no substance—he could take them down single-handedly.

And that's exactly what he did.

After a brief scuffle, Lee Yu spoke softly, "No need to be scared. I'm just asking to avoid a pointless search."

The yellow-haired youth gulped, sweat and blood trickling down his forehead. He had joined in the fight, but in an instant, he was floored, unable to even see the moves that took him down. His brothers, seasoned in the streets for years, were now moaning under Lee Yu's weight.

"So fast! Way stronger than grandpa!"

Chen Jingfu approached, her stunning eyes betraying her shock.

When one channels internal energy, there are external signs, like clothes fluttering without wind. It's not just for show; it's due to the shift in one's aura.

Yet, she was certain Lee Yu hadn't tapped into his internal energy. Using only his physical strength, he had knocked down five people in a blink.

"The boss is inside," blurted the yellow-haired youth, as the shoe sole loomed closer to his head.

Lee Yu chuckled, "Would've been easier if you'd cooperated sooner. The ground's dirty, get up and lead the way. A few steps won't hurt, right?" He removed his foot and offered a hand to help the youth up.

"Not at all, not at all."

The yellow-haired youth scrambled to his feet, sensing that had he not answered, that foot might have indeed crushed his head.

"The boss just got back from handling some business," he said, not daring to run and instead leading the way dutifully, answering all of Lee Yu's questions.

Just returned.

Lee Yu and Chen Jingfu exchanged a glance.

If it wasn't a meal they were returning from, the timing of their return and Huang Xiu's abduction were suspiciously close. Could it really be such a coincidence?

The way was clear and unobstructed.

Upon reaching the top floor, they found themselves in a long corridor flanked by symmetrical doors stretching to the very end, where a closed door stood.

"The boss is in there," the yellow-haired youth pointed to the door at the end of the corridor.

"You can go now." Lee Yu pushed him aside and strode towards the door.

Relieved, the yellow-haired youth tumbled and scurried downstairs. He had played his part; staying any longer would mean trouble if his boss won.

Meanwhile, the doors along the corridor opened one by one, as if sensing prey. People emerged, watching the young man pass without moving, their gazes locked on him.

Lee Yu's gaze remained steady and unfaltering.

He hadn't incapacitated the few individuals guarding the door; it was to be expected that they would be tipped off. This didn't bother him in the slightest; in fact, he was rather eager to see their response.

To Lee Yu, deducing possibilities from their reactions was far more reliable than trying to get straight answers from them, which often led to wild tales and misinformation.

His current priority was singular: to locate and rescue the person in question.

That's precisely why he had singled out the yellow-haired youth for questioning. Among the five guards, he was the only one without a tattoo, a clear sign of a rookie.

Such a person was usually the most forthcoming under interrogation.
