C58 Now the Children Were Really Amazing

Realizing the commotion was caused by the tiger devoured ghost, Lee Yu wasn't as anxious. He hailed a cab and headed over.

"Driver, could you please go a bit faster?"

Lee Yu blinked rapidly. Though Huang Xiu wasn't in any real danger, the thought of her being scared was unsettling. He needed to get there quickly.

Within five or six minutes, he arrived. Lee Yu stretched, and seeing no one around, he vaulted over the two-meter fence and sprinted towards the tiger devoured ghost's location.

Going through the main entrance was just too much hassle at this hour. Getting caught and having to sign in could delay him for a good ten minutes or more.

Lee Yu vanished around the corner in a flash.

Unbeknownst to him, a brown-haired girl with wide eyes was watching from behind. She gazed at the height of the fence and the direction of his disappearance in disbelief.

"Oh my god!" she whispered to herself.

...

After winding his way through, Lee Yu quickly arrived at his destination.

Even before entering, he could hear the sobs of two girls.

Huang Xiu's luck had been poor; the neighboring class was absent. Otherwise, the noise they were making would have been easily detected through the thin wall.

The two boys had chosen this spot for that very reason. Their actual target was the short-haired girl with Huang Xiu, but due to a lack of space in the restroom, Huang Xiu had come this way and stumbled upon the scene in the classroom.

She bravely intervened, but both ended up in the clutches of their foes...

Then, following Lee Yu's command, the tiger devoured ghost stepped in to protect Huang Xiu.

To the two girls, the boys seemed not just terrifying in their movements, but also produced a chilling soundtrack of cracking bones, and even appeared to hover in mid-air at times.

It was the stuff of ghost stories.

From the window, Lee Yu could see the tiger devoured ghost standing behind the boys, manipulating them into grotesque poses.

"Yu, Yu, save me!" Huang Xiu, spotting Lee Yu by the window, cried out.

Lee Yu nodded: "I'm here, I'm here," he reassured her, gesturing with a wave of his hand. The tiger devoured ghost received the signal and submerged into the ground.

The two individuals who had lost control collapsed to the floor. Lee Yu approached to assess their condition and breathed a sigh of relief; they had merely sustained ligament injuries, nothing serious.

Upon witnessing Lee Yu enter the room, the two menacing boys dropped to the ground motionless, prompting the girls to also exhale in relief.

Huang Xiu immediately clung to Lee Yu, murmuring, "Mmm, Brother Yu."

She was clearly terrified.

Once Huang Xiu had calmed down somewhat, Lee Yu teased, "What's going on with you? Your life sure is full of excitement lately."

Between kidnappings and ghostly frights...

Huang Xiu, wiping away tears, retorted irritably, "What do you mean? Didn't you notice someone performing a ritual before you came in?"

She quickly clarified the situation.

The girl with the short hair was Suo Yanni, a classmate of Huang Xiu's, who had been lured into the classroom by the two boys. After the ringleader's confession was rejected, he planned to do something drastic. Huang Xiu, passing by the door at the time, couldn't find anyone to help and, in a panic, broke in.

The boys initially thought they'd been caught and were startled, but then saw an opportunity to turn the tables on Huang Xiu as well.

This crossed a line with the tiger devoured ghost, an entity Lee Yu had summoned. Its sudden absence led the girls to believe they were experiencing paranormal activity.

Trapped at the back of the classroom with the back door deliberately sabotaged by the boys, the girls were too frightened to try the front exit and huddled together, shivering in fear.

"These kids are something else," Lee Yu remarked, noticing the disheveled state of Suo Yanni's clothing. He couldn't help but comment on the boldness of youth.

Huang Xiu pointed out, "Brother Yu, I'd say we're not that different in age."

They were all seniors in high school. If not for Lee Yu's scholarly prowess, he might have been their classmate.

Lee Yu paused, rolling his eyes. "Always with the chatter. Let's just go. I checked it out, and there's no haunting going on. They probably just had some episode that spooked you both."

He glanced up and noticed the surveillance camera had already been covered, saving him the trouble of having to erase the footage.

With a bit of coaxing, he managed to get the two people out.

"Yu, what about those two?" Huang Xiu inquired.

"What can we do? Just leave them there to thaw out," Lee Yu replied with a nonchalant shrug.

His attention shifted to the side where the tiger devoured ghost was stealthily underground, vigilantly guarding Huang Xiu.

Lee Yu had a single demand for the ghost: if Huang Xiu were in trouble, it must save her at all costs. Nighttime was fine, but during the day, the ghost's severe aversion to sunlight meant risking obliteration with any intervention.

However, it could be restored within the system, which was a relief. The key point was that any mishap with the ghost would alert Lee Yu to trouble brewing around Huang Xiu.

To his astonishment, the ghost seemed to operate just fine in daylight, with minimal loss of its spectral energy.

"Could it be that so many schools are built over graves for this reason?" Lee Yu speculated. Sadly, the ghost was too simple-minded for a proper conversation, and after a moment's thought, he let the matter drop.

It didn't really impact him anyway.

Once he was sure everything was in order, Lee Yu took his leave.

...

"I'm telling you, I really saw it—a guy just leaped right in!"

"Sweetheart, who can do that? Even athletes can't manage that, much less someone jumping out of thin air."

"It's true! Why would I lie to you?"

"Then let's review the surveillance footage. That'll settle it."

"That stretch of road... it doesn't have any cameras."

Lee Yu looked up, startled, at the nearby gazebo. Were they talking about him?

But hearing there was no camera coverage, he breathed easier and made his way back to the railing. This time, Lee Yu was extra cautious. Once he was certain no one was around, he vaulted up and landed on the street below.

Lee Yu hailed a taxi with an air of nonchalance.

"Look, look, look... Hui Hui, you've got to see this! He, he, he..." The brown-haired girl had the perfect vantage point over the railing. She had just glanced up in time to catch a glimpse of Lee Yu's retreating figure. "That guy just jumped out again!"

Her best friend turned around with a hint of resignation, her view obstructed, seeing nothing.

"I'm telling you the truth!" The girl tugged at Hui Hui, rushing her over to the railing.

Could it really be true? Her best friend's excitement seemed to suggest so.

Intrigued, Hui Hui joined the girl in surveying the scene. They only spotted a sparse number of cars in transit, and at one point, the back end of a taxi came into view.

Apart from that, the street was deserted.

I can't believe I fell for it!

Hui Hui sighed in exasperation. "My dear sister, you've been so obsessed with martial arts lately! Where is this supposed action?"

"...But I really did see something just now." The girl's spirits deflated. Despite her confidence in what she saw, the street was empty. Had she really lost her mind?

Unaware of the commotion he'd left behind, Lee Yu settled comfortably against the taxi seat.
